This thread is for an alphabetical listing of any wild creatures you can possibly encounter in Ymaggion. If you wish for this list to be expanded, go suggest a creature in the Creature Suggestion thread. Warm-blooded creatures live across the entire world of Ymaggion, and can be found on every continent. These creatures can be domesticated and kept as pets or livestock, while yet others are wild, untameable creatures. They come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and colors, and have adapted to a wide variety of environments.

A-B[/b] The Exploding Aqua Buffalo, called the 'Splody Aqua Bully for short, is a large herd animal that congregates near inland bodies of water, such as ponds, lakes, and rivers. Aqua Bullies are covered in thick, shaggy blue fur and stand on legs that are a bit thicker than regular buffalo. They sport a pair of curving yellow horns on their skulls, and their eyes are often covered by a mop of fur on their heads. Aqua Bullies are herbivores and mostly graze on grass, and sometimes seaweed. Their herds can range from anywhere between ten to fifteen Aqua Bullies, and larger herds of up to 30 and even 50 Aqua Bullies have been seen around larger bodies of water. Aqua Bullies have evolved a unique defense for dealing with predators and other threats--their bodies are covered in selectively-permeable membranous sacs hidden beneath flaps of fur. By standing in water and drinking it up, they fill up these sacs until they look comically bloated with water. Naturally, this increases their weight to an incredible degree, slowing them down and making them wobble side to side as they plod along. When they feel threatened or are under attack, an Aqua Bully will make their water sacs permeable while contracting them shut, causing them to "explode" and spray water everywhere with considerable force. The explosion of water often stuns their opponents, while simultaneously decreasing their weight, allowing them to quickly trample their attackers to death.[/ul]

C-D[/b] A cabbit is a small feline creature that resembles a cat crossbred with a rabbit or hare. They mostly resemble domestic cats, but have stronger hind legs, longer, furrier ears, and a bushier tail that can resemble either a cat's or a rabbit's, depending on the breed. These animals are moderately intelligent and naturally curious, often getting them into mischief at inopportune times. Because of their intelligence, cabbits are easily trained and often taken as pets. Cabbits are omnivores and are known to eat both meat and plantlife, but tend to prefer eating vegetables over everything else (a trait that often earns them the ire of old farmers when they raid their crops). They breed rapidly, and as such, many wild cabbits can be seen living in the wilderness around villages and towns. Though stand-offish, wild cabbits are still relatively friendly animals. CentaurCentaurs are blood thirsty marauders, considered no more than barbarous attackers despite their near human look. Creatures of fields and forests, centaurs travel in large packs, using crude weapons by the hundreds to overwhelm their enemies. Their bodies are varying shades of tan, and their frames are muscular as this is their only strength. Large human torsos with an equally large horse body make the shape of a Centaur, but the prospect of riding one of these is simply out of the question due to their distinctly unfriendly nature. While these creatures are sentient, their acts are considered animal-like and without moral, brutally laying waste to civilizations nearby. Centaurs have a clan-like hierarchy, but a leader is no more than perhaps a large sly Centaur, and is capable of being replaced by whoever kills him. Tactics of a Centaur ranges from simply trampling enemies to using combinations of bows and spears, occasionally producing maneuvers or strategies, but this is not particularly common. Centaurs are dangerous creatures in numbers and are deadly to small towns, tribes, or settlements, but present little thread to capable fighters unless they are simply overwhelming. ChimeraA Chimera is the result of magic and science grafting several creatures together to form an extremely dangerous beast. After their creation and mass-production, many chimeras were lost in the wild and have evolved through time after having gone feral. Four main creatures were selected for its appearance, while various other creatures of magical nature were grafted to give it its power. The beast has three heads, of a ram, a wolf, and a condor, on the right, center, and left necks of its body, respectively. The front half of its body is that of a large wolf's, covered in coarse, shaggy fur, while the back half of its body is that of an equally large ram's, complete with powerful hindquarters and behooved feet. The massive wings of a gigantic condor stretch out from its shoulders, though it cannot truly fly due to its immense weight. The tail of this beast is a large, poisonous snake, ending in a fanged head--this part of its body is as functional as the rest, making surrounding the creature in combat a risky affair. The creature can command powerful magic in battle, able to lash out with it from each of its mouths. Generally, Chimeras live in extremely hot places, such as near the calderas of volcanoes. CyclopsThe cyclops is a gigantic humanoid monster, closely related to the giants and standing equally with them at thirteen to fourteen feet in height. What sets it apart from the other giants is the peculiar physical traits of possessing only a single eye in its skull, rather than a pair, and a single, curved horn jutting from their forehead above it. Like giants, the cyclops is an omnivore with a preference for meat, and have no compunctions against eating sentients, making them a danger to people of the civilized world. They often wear jerkins made from dozens of hides patched together, and use trees as clubs. While massive, a cyclops is a slow and unintelligent creature, who relies on brute strength and natural endurance to overcome foes in battle. Unfortunately for them, their large size and single eye make them easy targets for blinding, which is the general strategy when fighting against one. Generally, they live in caves found on Valtheran's Outlands, and on numerous islands scattered throughout the world.[/ul]

E-F[/b] The Enicorn is a highly magical creature, appearing as a gray-furred horse with a long, sharp blade jutting out from the middle of its head. Unicorns tend to live in forested locations, generally in the continent of Allondell, alongside Unicorns. Unlike the Unicorn, the Enicorn is a confrontational creature that is unafraid of engaging predators, attacking with their hooves and slashing and stabbing with the blades on their heads. Enicorns are not as magical as their brethren, but unlike the Unicorn, the blade of the Enicorn, which is magical in nature, grows back if removed. Magical knives are often created from these blades, but capturing Enicorns for this is only legal to trained professionals, as Enicorns are defenseless until the horn grows back and thus vulnerable to predators. Some Enicorns have come to trust sentients, but they refuse all attempts at domestication. Fire GiantA distant cousin of the giant, a Fire Giant is a massive humanoid monster with powers over flame magic. Like the Giants, Cyclopses, and Frost Giants, the Fire Giant is proportionately twice the size of a man, standing nearly thirteen to fourteen feet in height. The Fire Giant is covered in reddish, burned-looking skin, and has most of its body looking like its covered in flames. They are typically found in volcanic areas, such as on islands, and they wield clubs made of obsidian rock as weapons. They are still slow and mostly unintelligent creatures, and generally limit their magical capabilities to throwing fireballs and maintaining an aura of flame around them. Frost GiantA distant cousin of the giant, a Frost Giant is a massive humanoid monster with powers over ice magic. Like the Giants, Cyclopses, and Fire Giants, the Frost Giant is proportionately twice the size of a man, standing nearly thirteen to fourteen feet in height. The Frost Giant is covered in pale, grayish skin, and has most of its body looking like its swathed in an icy mist. They are typically found in frozen areas, such as in northern mountains, and wield clubs made from the trees they've uprooted as weapons. They are still slow and mostly unintelligent creatures, and generally limit their magical capabilities to breathing a torrent of icy mist from their mouths, and maintaining the aura of frost around them.[/ul]

G-H[/b] The giant is a massive humanoid monster, standing close to thirteen to fourteen feet in height, making them proportionately twice the size of a man. Giants are omnivores with a preference for meat, and have no compunctions against eating sentients, making them a danger to people of the civilized world. They often wear jerkins made from dozens of hides patched together, and use trees as clubs. While massive, giants are slow and unintelligent creatures, and they on brute strength and natural endurance to overcome foes in battle. Unfortunately for them, their large size for long range weaponry. Giants are social creatures among their kind, but disputes are frequent, and fights between them can cause widespread damage to the surrounding area. GuarThe guar is a domesticated herd animal often raised for its leathery hide and for use as a pack animal. Guar look much like reptilian creatures that faintly resemble saurians, but are warm-blooded mammals whose hide only looks reptilian, but feels remarkably different. They communicate with a soft braying sound, usually when they are approached by another living being. Unlike cows, guars are highly intelligent and possibly empathic creatures, and have been known to interact with sentient races even in the wild, like leading them to water or food if lost in the wilderness. They are sturdy and relatively fast creatures, making them viable choices as pack animals for travelers. Some wild guar have been known to attack sentients during times of distress, such as when something intrudes on its territory with harmful intent. Though herbivores, guar have powerful jaws and sharp teeth, enabling them to easily defend themselves in combat.[/ul]

I-J[/b] The jackalope is a small jackrabbit that has antlers growing out of its head, similar to an antelope. Due to this, Jackalopes have less difficulty with natural predators than other small wild animals. However, they are still cowardly by nature and will flee any kind of threat that it cannot defend itself from. Like the cabbit, jackalopes can be domesticated and kept as pets, but are far more difficult to train. Their more-limited habitats, restricting them to plains and fields, show that they are also less plentiful than other domesticated creatures, ensuring that they do not appear on other continents.[/ul]

M-N[/b] The Manticore is an aggressive creature similar to the Chimera. This beast looks very much like an angry mail lion with a sweeping mane, large bat wings extending from the middle of its back, and has the tail of a gigantic red-shelled scorpion curled up behind it. Their faces, while remaining feline in nature, look similar to angry, snarling men with dead black eyes. These creatures are slow to move about when not threatened, and cannot fly, but can quickly run after prey and glide on their wings when fighting against something. They are magical in nature, and can spit fireballs from their mouths. Getting close is also a dangerous proposition, as Manticores still possess sharp claws, and their tail is quite poisonous. They are generally seen in mountainous areas, such as volcanoes. MedusaThe Medusa is an unusual, humanoid creature that lives on remote islands in the oceans of the world. A Medusa looks to be a human or elven woman clothed in a thin, billowing robe, only with a mass of serpents for hair. While normally nonmoving, these snakes begin to writhe with the Medusa's agitation. They are intelligent creatures that can communicate with sentients. The most dangerous aspect of the Medusa is their stare, which can instantly petrify a person upon making eye contact, putting them in stasis while encasing them in stone. The only way to remedy this is through magic, as cracking the stone harms the victim. Most Medusa are hostile towards sentients, though others have shown to be kinder creatures who blindfold themselves to prevent themselves from petrifying others. They are found on ancient ruins on islands, leading others to believe they are creatures of magic from ancient times. The few Medusae who are non-hostile have never gone into detail about their origins or their past lives. MinotaurThe Minotaur is a frightening humanoid monster, appearing as a man crossed with a raging bull. These creatures stand close to ten feet in height, standing on behooved feet while having five-fingered hands. They only wear hide loincloths over their dark reddish-brown fur, and their heads have horns that curved forward. Minotaurs are powerful, aggressive creatures that are slow to move, but nearly impossible to stop. They usually wield large axes and polearms in battle, and congregate in old ruins and buildings, where they wait for prey to haplessly stumble in. It is unknown where Minotaurs come from, as they can appear virtually on any continent, and their societal habits are similarly unknown--if they can communicate with sentients, they obviously choose not to, and instead immediately attack. MutargatoLike the cabbit, the Mutargato is another unusual variation of a feline species found in the wild, and is a kind of vampiric cat. Normally, they have the appearance of a simple black cat, but are capable of elongating their claws and extending a small spike from the tips of their tails. As they mature, Mutargatos grow in size and take on traits seen in Weretigers, including the ability to stand upright. They also become incredibly poisonous, as their claws become coated in a potent toxin. Until they mature, Mutargatos appear to be friendly, and will play with travelers and children outside of villages and towns for a short while before growing bored of the activity and acting out on their impulses, attacking them and draining them of their life-forces. Mature Mutargatos, on the other hand, stalk their prey from tall grass, as they have grown strong enough to survive encounters without the need for subterfuge. Nemean LionThe Nemean Lion is a peculiar creature, looking like an otherwise maned lion with brownish-tan fur. The unique traits of this beast, however, is their unusual skin, which is impenetrable by any conventional weapon in the known world today. Swords, spears, axes, and bullets all blunt against its skin, and the beast can only be slain through the use of magic or fire, or by piercing its brain through its eyes, which can similarly deflect weapons with its eyelids. However, the hide of the creature becomes normal in its death throes, proving it to be useless for making superior armor. These creatures can be found virtually anywhere, as they reside in the foothills of mountains. Territorial creatures, they will attack anyone who comes near with a powerful sonic roar that can stun sentients mid-step.[/ul]

Q-R[/b] The rabite resembles a small, bodiless rabbit with no legs, large ears that curve upward and form a point at the tip, and a round, puffy tail. Its name is a portmanteau of "rabbit" and "bite", a reference to both its appearance and primary means of attack. Movement by the rabites is achieved by hopping along the ground by pushing up with the muscles on its underside, allowing it to move forward while propelling its body through the air. Despite their docile appearance, rabites can and most often will attack unprovoked, and remain a constant nuisance until slain or scared off. Their primary attack consists of lunging at an opponent, mouth agape, and biting down on them with their sharp teeth. In the event it becomes too wounded to fight or if it faces a threat too large for it to handle, it will attempt to flee. If it becomes surrounded it will then cover its face in a last bid for mercy.[/ul]

U-V[/b] The Unicorn is a highly magical creature, appearing as a white-furred horse with a straight spiral horn jutting out from the middle of its head. Unicorns tend to live in forested locations, generally in the continent of Allondell, alongside Enicorns. They are skittish, wary creatures that often flee upon detecting a sentient or a predator, and are nearly impossible to catch. Unicorns have highly magical properties, and are often poached for their horns and their blood--this act is illegal in the Holy Empire of Stamaria, due to the rarity of the creatures in the first place. Some Unicorns have come to trust sentients, but they refuse all attempts at domestication.[/ul]

W-X[/b] Weretigers are one of the more curious of Ymaggion’s shape-changing species. While they share some abilities with Werewolves, they are not related in any way. Weretigers are not, in fact, bipedal sentient creatures who can morph their shape into tigers. They are almost the exact opposite. Most Weretigers are descended from a brutal race of jungle-dwelling, shape-shifting shamans, who eventually fell so deeply into madness that their entire community entirely forwent living in their upright shape for several centuries. It is safe to say that most of the vile and vicious habits most often attributed to Shapeshifters as a whole (most rumors about Werewolf packs) are actually mangled and broken tales of Weretiger brutality and perversity. They are vicious, lone-ranging creatures who pride themselves on being hunters of all things. Only rarely do they enter human shape, preferring to stay to their powerful and deadly tiger-form on the hunt. While they are intelligent (extremely so, in fact), Weretigers do no socialize well. Extremely dangerous, they are masters of changing their form multiple times during combat, bouncing back and forth between human and tiger in a furious flurry of claws, fists and teeth. They are sadistic, almost entirely without morals of any sort, and are generally self-centered to the point of extreme narcissism. WerewolfWerewolves are one of the myriad of sentient species that populate Ymaggion. Contrary to popular belief, they are not born of some demonic or perverse coupling of human and wolf. While their origins can be traced and connected to certain magical events, they are a “mostly” normal species of shape-shifters. Their one oddity is how they are created, in that Werewolves are not so much born as they are infected. Each Werewolf is gifted with a potent (and generally benign) virus which transforms a sentient creature into a Werewolf. The virus is delivered through special canals in their teeth; it should be noted that it matters which form the Werewolf is in, the virus is present in both forms, but only communicable in their Wolf-form. Additionally, it takes a conscious effort of will to enable the process, ensuring that an accidental bite does not turn a subject. They are always in control of their transformations, barring the time of the month when the moon is at its fullest. Some connection between the lunar cycle and the Werewolves causes them to automatically shift during the few days of a full moon. They also become more irritable during these periods. [/ul]
