This thread is for an alphabetical listing of any draconic beings you can possibly encounter in Ymaggion. If you wish for this list to be expanded, go suggest a creature in the Creature Suggestion thread. Dragons are a race of winged, fire-breathing reptilian creatures full of magical power. These tremendous beasts are found throughout the world, and are known in legends and myths as terrible creatures of untold power. The dragons of Ymaggion typically look like large reptiles with four or six limbs: a pair of wings, a pair of legs, and in some cases, a pair of forearms. Some dragons use their wings as arms. There are six main breeds of dragons, and many lesser breeds that consist of mixed bloodlines from interbreeding of the Black, Blue, Green, Red, and White dragonflights. All dragons are highly intelligent creatures and are extremely attuned to magic and nature. Some have been known to master the language of sentient races, and have even aided them in certain endeavors. Dragons live in roosts called weyrs, which can be found in mountain caverns, water-logged coves, and Rumbletrunk trees, and some dragons have known to congregate with one another, working together to create larger weyrs. The largest known weyrs are in Valtheran, in and around the Dragons' Breeding Grounds.

A-B[/b] Black Dragons are possibly the most dangerous breed of dragon in existence. These dragons can spit out a highly acidic and flammable chemical from their mouths in addition to their natural ability to breathe fire, and due to the color of their scales, they can easily blend in with dark surroundings. They are mostly nocturnal, coming out to hunt or patrol only during the night. They construct their weyrs using their acidic breath, and as such, the walls of their weyrs have an unusual, glossy shine to it where the acid cut through. Black Dragons live mostly on islands and in Kouchi, especially around the underground city of Acera. Blue DragonBlue Dragons are an unusual breed of dragon, as they typically live in areas containing large bodies of water. Their wings are designed to help them swim easily in water as well as they do flying through the air, and they also possess the most powerful tails, which also aids them in maneuvering underwater. While they do possess the ability to breathe fire, like every other breed of dragon in the world, they are known to employ magic to generate blasts of lightning energy from their mouths, which is particularly deadly when they attack underwater enemies from above the surface. Blue dragons typically make their weyrs in caverns with underwater entrances, or in caverns close to bodies of water. As such, they can typically be found in any of the oceans of the world, and in Cher Plek.[/ul]

C-D[/b] Dragonets are a distant relative to the dragons of Ymaggion, a creature virtually identical to the majestic, terrible beasts, yet many times smaller, able to sit on the shoulder of a human being without much hassle. Dragonets can be found far and wide, and come in a vast variety of colors, greater than that of dragons themselves. Unlike actual dragons, dragonets have jewel-like eyes that flash different colors based on their mood. They are unable to verbally communicate with other creatures, but are still intelligent and highly empathic animals. Some have been known to bond with members of sentient races, and remain with them for life. Their hides can get dried out, and need to be oiled regularly. Like dragons, they too are capable of breathing fire, but not nearly as great effect as their larger relatives. DrakeThe Drake is perhaps one of the most common creatures in the world, a reptilian creature with dragon ancestry. Drakes are roughly the size of a horse, covered in green scales and possessing a wingspan of roughly twelve feet in length. Drakes are not as intelligent as their larger brethren, but are still very smart creatures who have been seen to learn and adapt in numerous situations. They are very capable of breathing fire and thus extremely dangerous creatures when aggravated. Younger Drakes are known as Drakelings, and are not quite as large as a man, but is bigger than a child. Their hatchlings are commonly referred to as EggDrakes, and are usually the size of small dogs. They still wear most of their shell for protection, and are still capable of defending themselves, despite being weak.[/ul]

G-H[/b] Great Dragons are the strongest, most powerful breed of dragon in Ymaggion, and also the rarest of them. These dragons are always of the six-limbed variety, and usually possess longer horns, and massive claws on the joints of their wings. Their color varies among them, unlike the other five primary breeds of dragons. This is due to possessing overwhelming genetic dominance in their DNA, and any lesser breed of dragon they mate with will produce another Great Dragon. They will also possess the traits of the other breed, such as a specialized wings from a Blue Dragon or Green Dragon, or the acidic breath weapon of a Black Dragon. These creatures make their weyrs depending on the traits they inherit from their parents, and as such can be found potentially anywhere... if they can be found at all. Great Dragons are the most intelligent and revered of their species, and as such, most dragons defer to them. Green DragonGreen Dragons are the most agile and swift of the main Dragonflights, possessing larger wings than most. Green Dragons, in addition, are far more in tune with nature and life than the rest of their kind, and as such are most commonly found in thick, forested areas like in Zailleon and Cher Plek, though some have been known to live in open fields instead. They build their weyrs in forest clearings and on top of giant Rumbletrunk trees, and because of their green scales, are excellent predators in the forest. They are the breed of dragons who most commonly associate with druids and sages, and as such are the most accepted by sentient races. They are perhaps the least aggressive of the six primary dragonflights, and usually only attack those who intrude on their weyr itself, leaving those moving around it unharmed.[/ul]

K-L[/b] Lesser Dragons are the resulting offspring of two purebred dragons of different flights mating. These dragons, while no less intelligent, are physically inferior to their parents, being of slightly smaller stature, and of varying attributes. They may or may not take on the dominant abilities of their parents, such as the specialized wings of Blue or Green Dragons, or the potent breath weapons of Black or Red Dragons. Due to the conflicting genetics, lesser dragons come in a variety of colors other than those of the five primary dragonflights. They are able to be found more often than purebred dragons, and the locations of their weyrs and habitats depend on the attributes they inherited from their parents.[/ul]

Q-R[/b] Red Dragons are the most well known breed of dragon, due to the vibrant crimson scales that adorn their hide, and because they are the most aggressive dragons of their kind. Red dragons possess the most potent of fire breath among their kind, rivaled only by that of Great Dragons. Red dragons typically make their weyrs in deep caverns, and as such are most commonly found in the islands of the world, and throughout Kemei's deserts, as well as Mount Cantoi. They are extremely territorial creatures, and intruding on their weyrs often proves to be a very fatal mistake. Lingering around weyrs is also a dangerous affair--red dragons have been known to attack at the slightest provocation, and have been seen in furious battles with Lightning Hawks over the desert. Red dragons can commonly be found near flows of lava, but it is unknown if their scales are impervious to it. Due to this, however, it is believed that red dragons share a bond of some sort with the legendary Magma Dragon that is thought to reside deep within the Fire Temple.[/ul]

W-X[/b] White Dragons are an unusual breed of dragon, as they live in only the coldest areas of the world, such as Cyra and the Everfrost of Kouchi. Others have been found around the Great Wall, and the lands beyond it, though they do not stray as far as the Maelstrom. These dragons have gray scales, but are covered in a thick coat of white fur that helps keep them warm, and allows them to blend in with their surroundings. Also unlike other dragons, white dragons are known to employ a frigid blast of cold air as a method of attack, which quickly freezes its prey. This is not to say they are completely defenseless when fighting creatures attuned to ice--they still possess the natural fire breath that the rest of their kind is known for. White dragons make their weyrs in shallow caverns on high mountains, and hide the entrances using thick banks of snow. They have been observed partially hiding within these snow drifts, both away and in their weyrs, while they wait for prey to come near. WyrmWyrms are another distant relative of dragons, and are perhaps the one species sharing their genetic code that looks the least like a dragon. Instead, they appear as a kind of winged serpent, with a thick, coiling body, a draconic head, and large wings. They come in three different breeds--red, green, and yellow--that do not intermingle with one another. Their main habitat are forests, and as such are a very common sight in Zailleon, Cher Plek, and Allondell. Unlike dragons, wyrms cannot fly on their own. Instead, their primary method of movement is to use powerful muscles in its body to coil up and spring through the air, using their wings to glide on currents and thermals. Often, they are seen leaping and gliding from tree to tree as they hunt for prey. While they cannot breathe fire like their distant relatives, wyrms have evolved a potent venom that varies in its effects depending on the breed of the wyrm. Red wyrms have an acidic venom that destroys living tissue, green wyrms have a venom that circulates through the blood stream to slowly sap the victim of their strength, and yellow wyrms have a venom that causes a quick and powerful paralysis effect. WyvernWyverns are a species that is closely relate to dragons, and are quite common throughout the world. These creatures are roughly the size of a sturdy horse. They stand on two powerful hind legs, and have a pair of clawed wings that are too small to allow them to fly effectively, and sport a wide, horned crest around the back of their heads. Like dragons, they are magical creatures that do employ the use of both their flaming breath and certain spells that only dragons seem to know. Wyverns are intelligent and, for the most part, friendly creatures that can be trained to allow a rider upon their back. Due to their strength and draconic capabilities, wyverns are the prime choice of Stamarian cavalry officers. These creatures are commonly found in fields, preferably near bodies of water, and they stray away from mountainous areas. Due to their habitat, wild wyverns often vie for dominance against velociraptors and kargarocs.[/ul]
