This thread is for an alphabetical listing of any aquatic and sea-going creatures you can possibly encounter in Ymaggion. If you wish for this list to be expanded, go suggest a creature in the Creature Suggestion thread. The oceans of Ymaggion are vast, spanning the entire globe and leaving only eight continents and thousands of islands above its surface. And like the surface, the waters below teem with life. Numerous creatures that rely on water to survive exist in Ymaggion, ranging from amphibians that live at the water's edge, to colossal beasts living in the dark depths. Their behavior and actions are just as diverse as those on land, from the serene and friendly, to the vicious and bloodthirsty.

A-B[/b] The Biri is an overgrown species of cnidarian jellyfish found in the oceans of the world. These creatures generally grow to be larger than a man with the length of its tentacles, and are brightly colored, silvery blue membrane covering the reddish purple core. They generally live at water pressures closer to the surface, which causes frequent contact with sentients. Unlike other jellyfish, the Biri doesn't sting its prey before feeding. Instead, it routinely produces a localized electrical current through its body and the surrounding waters, electrocuting whatever comes within contact with it. Biris do not move often, preferring instead of stay in one place and feeding on plankton and whatever fish or other seagoing creature comes within range. Biri have been known to live inside flooded buildings on oceanic coasts, having been swept in by the currents.[/ul]

C-D[/b] The natives who first discovered this creature nicknamed it "the Shield Lord", for it's incredibly thick and durable carapace, which is strong enough to rival most metals, but light enough to allow the monster to carry itself with a surprising speed. The Daimyo Hermitaur appears to be a monstrously huge crab, pale red with white stripes and black eyes that stick out in an alien manner. Upon it's back, it carries the skull of a long-dead monster with a terrifying horn. It can often be seen leisurely skittering around in the sand, picking out any sort of decaying morsel off the ground and calmly going on it's merry way. An enraged Daimyo, however, is a true sight to behold, no longer slow and lumbering, it charges at aggressors with surprising speed and tenacity, swiping at enemies with it's massive, armored claws and spitting jets of water with enough force to shatter trees. Worse yet, the Daimyo Hermitaur is capable of tunneling beneath the sand and striking foes from beneath with incredible force, making good use of the shell on it's back to bash, smash, and pummel foes into dust. Daimyo Hermitaurs often start life as smaller, less threatening creatures known simply as "Hermitaurs", which are no more than 4 feet tall. Nobody has ever seen a Hermitaur grow much larger than that, and it is assumed they hibernate beneath the ground while making the final, drastic metamorphosis into adults. DreughThe Dreugh is an old species of aquatic creatures, looking like a carapace-covered humanoid with tentacled legs and and four arms ending in pincers not unlike those seen on crabs and lobsters. They are swift predators that can exist both in fresh and salt water, and will attack anything they consider viable prey that's submerged. For one year of its life cycle, the Dreugh will undergo metamorphosis and exit the water, looking more crustacean in appearance, known as the Land Dreugh. For one year, the Land Dreugh will stay on the coast before undergoing metamorphosis again and return to the water as a mature adult. During this time period, they will attack anything that nears them, showing that their savage nature has not dulled one bit since their metamorphosis. All Dreughs produce a valuable wax that is used for a variety of reasons, and their carapace is often crafted into a surprisingly sturdy armor by some people.[/ul]

G-H[/b] The Gan is the single most mysterious, and largest, aquatic creature found on Ymaggion. These colossal beasts look like quadrupedal reptiles with webbed limbs and a large fin running from the top of their head down to the tip of their tail. Their bodies can grow up to two hundred and forty feet in length, easily dwarfing any known whale, and can weigh 640,000 pounds. Their massive, narrow jaws are lined with gigantic, razor-sharp teeth, as they are carnivorous in nature, and they hunt only Sea Serpents as sustenance--there have been no known attacks on whales by Gan recorded in history. The Gan lives in the deepest parts of the ocean for most of their life, easily able to withstand the crushing pressures thanks to their gigantic, durable body structure, and ancient data recovered from technology from before the cataclysm have shown people recorded images of Gan surviving in magma beneath the surface of the planet. Adding to their mysterious nature, the Gan is known to travel closer to the surface when they hunt for Sea Serpents. Even more mysterious, Gan have been known to surface entirely and lounge on the coastlines of continents for days at a time, occasionally spanning up to two weeks. Scientists have thus far been unable to discern as to why these huge creatures do this. Adding to the mystery, Gan hold many unusual and wondrous properties. These creatures have a roar so powerful that they can shatter windows across a distance of miles, and even collapse buildings near its location. Such events are rare, and considered ill omens by many people in the world. Furthermore, Gan naturally produce horrendous amounts of electricity in their bodies, and can manipulate this energy at will, often using it to create powerful bursts of electricity in the water to kill their prey. When done on the surface, the resulting electromagnetic burst can cripple ships and electronics for miles. The single most unusual property of the Gan is that their bodily fluids hold an incredible regenerative effect, making Gan nearly impossible to kill. When Gan beach themeselves, scientists often drain massive amounts of blood from the creatures without ill effect done, and use the blood in medical treatments to help people and animals regrow lost limbs. To date, there has not been a single recorded case of mutation or infection caused by such applications. Gan can live up to two hundred years in the sea, and due to their habitat, it is not known how many exist in the world. The number is theorized to be low, as Gan do not feed often, ensuring that they do not cause the extinction of their only known source of food. When dying, Gan travel to the deepest parts of the ocean, and the sea floor is often said to be littered with the bones of Gan in gigantic graveyards. HippocampusThe Hippocampus is an unusual coastal creature, much like the Griffin and the Hippogriff. The Hippocampus has the front body, head, and forelegs of a horse, and the large fins and tail of a coiling sea serpent. Their bodies are covered in bluish-green scales, giving the horse-like front body an unusual appearance, along with the dorsal ridge running down its neck and the fins around its throat latch. They are peaceful creatures, and live on coasts, near rivers and on islands. While awkward on land due to its legs and its tail, the Hippocampus is extraordinarily agile in the water, using its legs to kick off the floor and its fins and tail to propel itself through the currents. They generally eat seaweed and other aquatic plants. Hippocampuses can be tamed by sentients, and are often raised on water-ranches on islands. Wild Hippocampuses have been known to allow sentients to ride them if they've been fed by them.[/ul]

K-L[/b] The Kraken is an extremely rare aquatic creature, often thought a myth throughout much of the civilized world. The Kraken is a massive cephalopod that sports several unusual characteristics, such as the six eyes mounted on its body and its bioluminescent skin. It has numerous tentacles stemming from around its tooth-filled maw and beak, but four of them are larger than the others, and sport secondary jaws at the ends, each equipped with its own set of fangs. The Kraken has only ever been encountered on the surface during intense rainstorms in the ocean, though it is rare for them to attack seagoing vessels, preferring instead to go after aquatic prey such as sea serpents and scylla. LobstrosityLobstrosities are aquatic creatures that congregate on the shores of islands and coastlines. These creatures looks mostly like black and brown-shelled lobsters, with eight legs, a pair of long arms with stumpy claws, and a fanning tail. Perhaps their most disturbing physical trait, however, is the eyes on their decidedly-short eyestalks look disturbingly human in appearance. They can grow to distressingly large sizes, dwarfing small dogs. They are slow and shamble around sands, all the while vocalizing strange noises that sound uncannily like a man saying unintelligible questions, such as "Dud-a-chum?", "Dud-a-chock?" or "Did-a-chick?" While slow, Lobstrosities are dangerous to approach. They are capable of lunging forward deceptively quick, and their jaws are powerful enough to effortlessly sever fingers or toes with their bites, and packs of them can quickly and messily devour wounded creatures they find on the beach. They are not afraid to attack humans regardless of their state of health, and their attacks are made all the more alarming with their constant, questioning cries. To add to the danger, Lobstrosities, while not poisonous, are riddled with disease, and the wounds they leave can quickly become infected, causing blood poisoning.[/ul]

M-N[/b] Murlocs are a race of amphibious, tribal creatures vaguely resembling humanoid frogs. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes, with some having barbed tendrils and others having dorsal ridges, and all having bright and colorful skin coated in slime. They are societal in nature, having polytheistic, animalistic, and shamanistic ways. Murlocs are carnivores, and have been known to hunt sentients and other creatures on land, as well as Hippocampuses and other creatures in the water. They generally dwell in villages along coastlines, lakeshores, and riverbeds, having taken residence in flooded caverns beneath the waters, and in crude huts made of reeds and grass and mud. They are a favorite study for biologists, and some research teams have been able to establish trade with more peaceful Murloc tribes. Murlocs speak an indecipherable, guttural language, but have shown the capability for the use of magic. In recent years, a new breed of Murloc has appeared. These creatures surpass their brethren in cruelty, hunting sentients and others not for sacrifices but for pure joy of torture. Mutant Murlocs enjoy blood sport and their victims' agony. Many eat victims over a period of days, careful not to kill them too soon. More prosperous mutant Murlocs use healing magic to sustain the entertainment longer. Though it is unclear what has caused the creature's strange mutations, many agree that something dark and sinister is awakening deep beneath the sea. The mutant Murlocs have been so corrupted that they have been known to turn on their own brethren under duress. NagaA Naga is a dangerous amphibious creature, a serpentine monster with arms, not unlike a Claw Viper. These creatures exist in the deep oceans, and come up to the surface to hunt. They are dangerous, intelligent creatures capable of speech and of using potent magics, usually wielding massive tridents and harpoon guns in battle. Male Naga surpass the size of a sentient, having draconic faces with massive dorsal ridges and fins on their faces, back, and their two arms. Female Naga, however, have more humanoid faces and fan-like fins on their heads, shoulders, and upper arms, and a second pair of arms beneath them. They are smaller in stature than their male counterparts, but are no less dangerous. Typically, they tend to be slow on land due to their tails, but are dangerously fast in the water and incredibly strong above and below the surface. Naga usually enslave Murlocs to use as workers, and typically they live in underwater ruins left over from the cataclysm.[/ul]

S-T[/b] The Scylla is an aquatic reptilian creature that drifts along the waves of the ocean's surface. Much like its land-based cousin, the Hydra, the Scylla is a creature with multiple heads on long necks. attached to a wide body that swims with massive, wing-like fins. They are born with a single, finned head similar to a snake's, and like the Hydra, will grow up to five more as it nears adulthood. The Scylla, while not a water-breathing creature, can hold its breath for long times, and uses this to its advantage when attacking other surface-traveling creatures, such as sentients on a ship. They attack using their jaws, attempting to devour smaller creatures whole. If a head is severed, it will quickly regrow two more in its place, increasing its lethality and the range of its neck. Like its land-based cousin, the Scylla can only quickly regenerate up to twice the amount of heads it was born with, and if all of them are sever, the Scylla will die. Should any heads be severed after this time period, but the Scylla escapes or prevails over its enemy, it will slowly regrow the lost heads over several years. Sea SerpentThe Sea Serpent is perhaps the most famous creature of the deep, a gigantic water-breathing snake known to attack ships far out at sea. Growing up to close to a hundred feet in length over the course of their life, Sea Serpents have bluish-gray scaly skin and numerous fins and ridges running down their body, ending with a serrated fan at the end of their tail. Their long, narrow mouths are full of needle-like teeth and a forked tongue strong enough to wrap around a man and drag them into their jaws. Their faces are adorned with a series of fins, including a dorsal ridge on top of their head running back, and fins running along the curve of their jaw. Sea Serpents tend to be found alone, though groups of two to five younger Serpents have been encountered before. They are the only known source of food for Gan, and Sea Serpents gather in groups to fight one should one rise up on the hunt. Such fights tend to turn the seas red with blood, and attract numerous sharks. SlaughterfishThe Slaughterfish is a carnivorous fish that can live in both fresh and salt water. Growing to one or two feet in length over their lifespan, the Slaughterfish will attack anything that comes near them in the water except for gargantuan creatures such as the Gan, the Scylla, or adult Sea Serpent. They are fast swimmers, capable of cutting through water at high speeds before snapping at their prey with needle-like teeth. They are often caught as a delicacy, and are served in meals world-wide. The Slaughterfish is hostile towards anything throughout their life, and Small Slaughterfish have been known to attack creatures as big as sentients on their own. Generally, the Slaughterfish is not a communal creature, and do not attack in swarms.[/ul]
