Name: Saal Van Rijn
Alias: Sturm, the Ice Man, Frosty the Deranged Snowman
Age: 45
Gender: Male
Nationality: Born in the chilling plains of Cyra
Appearance:
Clothing:
Sturm wears a wide brimmed, well-worn brown leather hat with a braided leather band wrapped around the top. The hat is well made, but old. He wears a tan trench coat. Underneath, Sturm wears a brown leather jacket, khaki pants, and brown leather business shoes. At his right hip, he keeps a katana. Under his jacket, Sturm has a Kevlar bandoleer with throwing knives stored on it. He also wears holster with a Desert Eagle handgun in it. On his left hand, Sturm wears a gold ring with an engraved skull on it. The eyes are blood red and have a slight glow. Sturm has little regard for looking nice, and does not care about his clothing.
Physical Appearance:
Sturm has snow white, three-inch long hair. He has a ratty goatee, also white. Strangely, Sturm also has white eyes. Even though his hair and eyes lack pigment, he has a healthy tan. Sturm is 6 foot one, and weights 140 pounds. When he removes his shirt, you can see his ribs. His face is boney, and has sharp features. His nose is straight and somewhat long. He has a large scar wrapping around his neck. It’s said that a giant badger in the Earth Temple gave it to him. He has a slight limp, and prefers to walk, not run. His internal body temperature is 55 degrees Fahrenheit.
Personality:
Sturm’s personality can be described in one word. Cold. When speaking to others, he is direct, leaving out all niceties while speaking. He is always serious, never laughing unless it has to do with the pain of an enemy. When spoken to, he replies with as few words as possible, or may just ignore the person speaking. He seems to enjoy poor weather, sometimes smiling during large storms. Sturm is wary of strangers, and keeps his distance from other humans. He never feels comfortable around other forms of life, preferring to be alone as much as possible. Sturm feels attached to his guild (The Order of he Silver Star) and wants to take it back. He sees no problem with mindless violence and mayhem, and loves to take life.
Possessions:
Sturm carries a blue tinted katana named Cool Fire. The blade is three feet long, and the handle is another foot, and wrapped in black sharkskin. The tsuba (hand guard) is oval shaped with Kanji engraved on it. The scabbard is dark blue. The sword is extremely cold (Zero degrees Celsius), and very few can stand holding it for extended amounts of time. Sturm has mastered the use of his sword. Sturm always knows where his sword is, and always feels called to have it.
Sturm carries a number of throwing knives with him at all times. Each knife is three inches long. The knives are black, and feel cold to the touch.
Sturm also carries a Magnum Research Desert Eagle .50 caliber handgun. The gun is 10.6 inches long and three inches wide. It is silver colored. The gun is rarely fired, since Sturm prefers his sword.
Sturm carries a silver coin. He guards it carefully.
Sturm also has a gold ring with a skull on it. The ruby eyes glow red while worn. The ring gives Sturm the special powers of Death’s Eyes and Shadow Shape (Described below). He wears the ring on his left ring finger.
Special Abilities:
Cold Blooded:
When Sturm is in a cold environment, he is three times as strong, twice as fast, and his wounds heal four times faster than they normally would. He is also immune to any frost related attacks, and cannot be seen by thermal imagining devices.
Ice Storm:
All characters within 20 feet of Sturm suffer frost damage. Blades will stick in their scabbards (However, weapons already drawn can still be used), and firearms will jam. These effects can be countered by fire magic (Meaning, the blade can be warmed to that it can be drawn, and guns can also be warmed). Magic remains unaffected.
Frostbolt:
An icy spear that Sturm creates and hurls like a javelin. It has little effect on armored foes, but against a soft target, it can be lethal.
Snowball:
A small snowball that Sturm creates. Can only be used as a distraction.
Blizzard: Creates a tremendous snowstorm that hides footprints, movements, and limits visibility to a five-foot radius. This has no direct effect on combat. The only way to see through it is with magic or thermal goggles.
Death’s Eyes (Given through ring):
Sturm can detect life through storms, fog, darkness, or other visibility restricting conditions. Life appears as a purple haze in the shape of whatever creature Sturm is looking at. This effect is constant.
Shadow shape (Given through ring):
Sturm can turn himself completely invisible for any amount of time, just as long as he doesn’t attack or use magic.
History: Saal was born in the frigid wastes Cyra to a family of wandering explores who were attempting to traverse the artic continent using no magical or modern technological aid. He immediately adapted to living in the extreme cold, and as he grew he became more and more at home in sub-zero temperatures. After nine years of travel with his family, a blizzard struck, killing off his entire family, leaving him to fend for himself in the frost. After several days alone, he was found by one of the white dragons of Cyra, who by some freak chance rescued him, gave him enough warmth and food to survive. The dragon, again deciding to take mercy on the helpless human, gave Saal the tools he would need to survive on his own. Sturm was given his sword, which was forged hundreds of years ago in the Ice Temple by a man of darkness, and was bestowed with his magical abilities. Saal was able to escape the Chilling Plains and make it to the coast, where a pirate ship picked him up. He slaughtered the entire crew, took the captain’s hat. He sailed the ship to Cher Plek, where he signed on to another ship as a mercenary. He stayed with them for only a few months, until they reached Allondell, where he joined the Order of the Blade. They trained him for combat, and he proved to be a very promising mercenary. However, he quickly grew bored of the restrictions, killed a small village, and left the Order of the Blade. He was then found be a mysterious shadowy man, and was taken into the Order of the Silver Star, where he quickly became one of the most respected and senior assassins. He changed his name to Sturm, and returned to Cyra with the hopes of finding the remains of his family, but had no luck. Instead, he found another small child, similar to himself, alone in the ice. Fearing that the Dragons might pity him as well, Sturm took him away and left him in the deserts of Kouchi. There. the boy survived, and eventually found Sturm again, and replaced him as leader of The Order of the Silver Star. Sturm then disappeared, but his presence is still known and feared throughout Allodell and Kemi.
Miscellaneous: Like all Reapers of the Order of the Silver Star, Sturm is left handed.
