Name: Darrick Larown
Alias: The Dragon’s Tail
Age: 36
Gender: Male
Nationality: Galsia
Appearance: Darrick is a tall, powerfully-built man with a darkened complexion thanks to his growing up in the kingdom of Galsia, in southern Kemei. He is a tall man, standing at six feet and eight inches and weighing two hundred and thirty pounds, with wide shoulders and weathered skin that give him an opposing appearance. His body is crisscrossed with a number of scars from various fights, most notably the ones that goes across the right side of his throat and over his left eye. His right eye is a hazel, almost green color, while the other one is milky in its appearance, long having been blinded there. He wears his brown hair down to his shoulder blades and with longer bangs, as is the style for most Galsians, and his lower jaw and upper lip sport a short beard.
Having grown up in Galsia’s desert environment, he learned the importance of keeping covered up and tends to wear heavy clothing despite warm climates. Most often he is seen in a thick, sleeveless black cotton tunic and heavy, dark green trousers, and a light breastplate over the tunic. Over that he wears a brown trenchcoat, strapped down with a leather belt across the waist. The trenchcoat has a fur lining around the collar, contains numerous pockets for him to keep his gear, and a metal ornament in the same of a cross with slanted, blade-like extensions on its two arms has been sewn into the back of it. The belt itself has numerous pouches on it to keep more of his belongings. Plated armor cover his leather boots and leather gauntlets, and a distinctive eye patch covers his blinded eye.
Personality: Darrick Larown is a man who has seen the worst that the world of Ymaggion has to offer and still keep hope and optimism in his life. He is confident, cheerful, and easygoing, often trying to find the best in the people he meets during his travels and adventures. Though he is slow to anger, his rage has been described as a raging storm, both quick in its ability to annihilate what stands before him and in its lifespan. Against the creatures he hunts, however, he is entirely merciless, and stops at nothing in his attempts to destroy them—this can cause him to be blinded to other things during his quest, especially if his quarry is just as much as a victim of things as those slighted by them. He has been known to be quite knowledgeable, and freely teaches those with him about what he knows.
Possessions: Darrick has amassed quite a number of belongings over the years, many of which he keeps in storage, or at his home in Galsia. A number of useful items, however, are kept on his person, most especially his trademark weapon, a whip created by binding leather and strands of mythril into a potent weapon. The tip of the weapon holds a trio of blades held together, which gives him his moniker of the Dragon’s Tail. He keeps the weapon looped on his belt at his right hip when he’s not using it in battle.
He is armed with other gear, however, including a large hunting knife strapped to one leg, and a throwing axe enchanted to return to his hand when he needs it, also kept on his belt opposite of his whip. He’s been known to keep a few explosive potions on his person for use in combat.
He often keeps a decent amount of cash on his person, and easily-stored perishables when traveling. Maps, a compass, a small leather-backed journal, and eating utensils complete his ensemble. Most rewards he is given often are sent back to his home in Galsia, to be held by his family.
Special Abilities: Darrick is a skilled adventurer and fighter, knowledgeable in fighting with the whip, the axe, and the knife. His skill with the whip is thought to be unparalleled, able to manipulate it ways most would think impossible, such as creating defensive barrier-like formations, or stabbing it straight out in a lethal thrust. The whip is as much a tool as it is a weapon for him, allowing him to swing from fixtures like a rope or grapple onto people to help or hinder them. He has good aim with throwing weapons, which allow him to strike far off targets with his knife, axe, and potions.
Almost as if to balance this, Darrick has little potential with magic, and he is incapable of learning most basic spells. This forces him to rely on his prowess in battle and his wits to overcome obstacles, employing him to use the lay of the land and remotely enchanted objects to defeat his foes. As an adventurer, he knows how to survive off the land and live in the wilderness for extensive periods of time, and he’s picked up numerous skills to help him get employed on temporary jobs as he travels. Such feats include cooking, farming, animal husbandry, carpentry, smithing, needlework, and mercenary practice.
History: Darrick Larown was born in the kingdom of Galsia, the southernmost kingdom in the dying continent of Kemei and the realm of Pharos. As a native of Kemei, he would grow up to be a strong and hardy man, used to hardship and unforgiving regions. Like many boys his age, Darrick had dreams of being the first to conquer the harrowing trip up Pharos, and often went on many adventures into the nearby deserts with his friends. Upon reaching his teenage years, he went from job to job, learning different skills, and upon graduation from school, he set out on his own.
During one of his first journeys towards the heart of Kemei, Darrick and those he was traveling with happened upon a burrow of Sand Maggots and were quickly attacked by the territorial creatures. Darrick was heroic enough to slay five of the beasts before he and his friends managed to escape the burrow, and on the way out, glimpsed something monstrous in its deepest recesses. Thrilled despite the terror, Darrick was hooked and worked ever harder to become a bonafide adventurer. He learned how to fight with various weapons, how to hunt and survive, and soon upon reaching adulthood, he set out into the world.
During his travels, Darrick eventually gained a name for himself by slaying creatures of darkness, such as vampires, werewolves, and demons that plagued the world. During this time, he would meet the first of three wives, and married her. Unfortunately, the relationship was short-lived, as she wanted him to settle down, but adventuring was still in his bones and they eventually separated and divorced.
In one of his later travels, before he truly became famous, Darrick happened upon a group of poachers hunting a Great Dragon, and watched as they intercepted the beast and engaged in battle. He saw the dragon annihilate the hunters one by one with the use of a peculiar blade made of scale and bone on the tip of its tail. Inspired, Darrick fashioned a trio of blades at the end of his whip, eventually upgrading the weapon into what it is today. Soon after, the unique appearance of his weapon and tales of his success garnered him the moniker of the Dragon’s Tail.
Again, Darrick met a woman and fell in love, and again he married her. And though for several years they were happy, she too could not get him to settle down from his adventuring ways, and she too divorced and departed from him, leaving him a single man once more. Free once more, Darrick continued on with his life, accepting an invitation from a friend and embarking on another quest, and beyond. As he started this new journey from Galsia, he chanced upon a woman set upon by bandits and quickly rose to her defense, slaying each of the criminals with his whip and the aid of his companions at the time. Grateful, she rewarded him after he helped her to her home. They remained in contact, and sometime later, the two fell in love and she became his third wife. Unlike the others, Carianne held no problems with his adventurous lifestyle, and the two maintained a relatively peaceful marriage, and she was always overjoyed upon his return home, and occasionally joins him on his adventures when she can.
