So, the biggest killer for an RP is often lack of a will to write. One moment you might be ready to explode with the desire to write something out, and the next you couldn't write a thing. I know for a lot of people music helps them with inspiration, and I thought it'd be awesome to compile a thread for it. Currently for me: www.youtube.com/watch?v=JP840zH8UQo

I generally alternate through several sections. But in general: For anything: Hans Zimmer is an amazing composer, his work is very moving and helps me write quite a lot. For Romantic stuff: Eh...I'm not very good at writing romance (O.o ) So I don't know of any good muses for something like this. For combat-related scenes: Battlestar Galactica music is extremely good for this, (note, tis a music video, so it has spoilers for the show if you haven't seen it. I find it best to simply leave it on in a window and write while it's minimized) www.youtube.com/watch?v=QmQqaTkUaGYSo yeah, a few of my muses that I generally listen too.

Is this only for music? Or inspiration sources in general?

McBadguy: I would say in general what helps, but of course keep it serious. No inappropriate things naturally. =P Just my cautious protective side coming out. But yeah, in general I think.
Combat: Thousand Foot Krutch/Nickelback/Disturbed. Pretty much anything with a fast beat, some good guitar and bass, and a little bit harder sound.
Romance: Vienna Teng/Enya/Switchfoot/Basshunter. Generally something calm and light, with lyrics from man to woman or vice versa if there are lyrics at all. This kind of depends on the relationship itself. If it's a quirky relationship, something a little brighter with a quick beat, if it's a strained or very romantic and passionate relationship, something with a slower sweeter beat.
For your basic roleplay, I find that Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield is a really good song. A universal dance beat is good too like Basshunter or other similar bands. Really any song that has a good solid beat and can keep your fingers wanting to move quickly will keep me going. If I have a beat to write to, I find that my thoughts and musings come a lot quicker.
Just some thoughts. I don't do many combat scenes, and given my current relationship status I don't do much romantic RP unless it's between me and my special someone (^^). Something else that helps other than music is reading more often, or simply free-writing about something you see when you look out your bedroom window. For example, I look out my window and see snow melting over cornfields and grass, so I might write about how the seasons are changing and what my senses gather to tell me that (smell, sight, hearing, temperature, etc.) or I might write about how the snow feels about being murdered if I'm in a darker mood.
Your muse can depend a lot upon your current living condition as well, so make sure you're in the right mood for what you're writing!
=) Sorry for the rantish post. Love y'all.

Haha, nice post, Risk. The only reason I brought up romance writing is *cough*becauseIwrotesomeromance*cough* Never really had a muse for that, just tried to get it written.
Also, yeah, have to be in the mood to write. Sometimes it comes, sometimes you just sit there looking at a screen for a few hours wondering what to write. I find music to be the most helpful, nothing else really works for me as it's the only thing I can listen to while writing.

Whatever fits the mood of the situation. The Shadow of the Colossus soundtrack has been a pretty good source of mood music.

Ooh! Inspiring music to write? I've actually found some really old MIDI files from this really old videogame that I actually listen to whenever I look out my house and see a good view. It helps me to write random thoughts and stories out of the blue. Too bad I can't upload them...
However, when it comes to epic music, I'm surprised that nobody has played or heard of the Homeworld series. Very, very cool 3D Space RTS that's known for it's cinematics, good storyline, and amazing soundtracks. Just search "Homeworld sountrack" on Youtube, and you'll be sure to pick up some good stuff. Oh, and "The Meaning of Truth" by hiro-x and Pradise Lost (by some random Japanese artist, who is the voice actor for Yuki Nagato of the SOS Brigade series) are pretty good too, in terms of battle music.
