So did anyone else hear that Hurt Locker beat out Avatar for best motion picture at the Oscar's last night? I was in shock. o.O

I wasn't. Don't get me wrong, Avatar was a fantastic movie for the most part, the action was cool, the characters were alright, and, of course, it looked amazing. But compared to Hurt Locker, it was beat out by what a movie should be rewarded for. Acting and plot. Avatar is the kind of movie I'd buy just to look at, Hurt Locker I'd buy to actually watch it again.
That exactly isn't easy for me to say to. I'm a huge James Cameron fan, and its kinda disappointing to see after ten years of work, Avatar wasn't the movie it was hyped up to be. Hurt Locker was just a better movie, Avatar was great though.

See everyone says that Avatar had no plot, but I completely disagree. I thought the plot was pretty well written. =X

I didn't mean to imply that. Avatar had an interesting plot for sure, but the thing that dragged it down, for me anyway, was the love story. It was way too predictable, especially in its execution. I wanted to see more of the world of Pandora, learn more of Na'vi culture. Instead I got montage footage of those two making googly eyes at each other.

I hated Avatar. It was Dances With Wolves only stupider. I've yet to see Hurt Locker, but I am glad to know a movie bested Avatar. Geez...

I'm glad you have a reason to dislike it.

Why wouldn't I have one? Then again there are haters who hate just to hate...

Avatar was very good looking, epic graphics. But parts of it truly annoyed me. (namely...the Military losing. Parts of the final battle just didn't make sense.)
Haven't seen the Hurt Locker yet, but it looks very well done, and I've heard excellent things about it.

Why wouldn't I have one? Then again there are haters who hate just to hate... My ears are burning... Personally, I had to turn my brain off half way through Avatar with all the ridiculous cliches and stereotypes. Especially that General with his line about terrorism, good God, i've seen rocket launches more subtle. That said, it's something I can never duplicate the experience of, but it was just amazing to watch it in theatres and see a more with that kind of creative design, but that said, the plot could have been written by a robot. The Hurt Locker on the other hand had no plot. Plain and simple, there's no real linear story to it; it's like a documentary. That said, it's an especially well done documentary that broadcasts the opinions of the director and does what it was supposed to. Avatar was supposed to change cinema. It succeeded at changing visual cinema, but the written part was so weak it didn't matter. The Hurt Locker showed a glimpse of war; that's what it was supposed to do, not change the world. Movies have to be real with themselves if they want to be rewarded;humility is a quality.
