So many voices. The voices of the world, all chattering at once, yapping in his ear. The world whispered constantly in his ears. It told him secrets, chores, gossip, knowledge, orders, chores. There was crying, yelling, screaming, laughing, talking, whispered, moans, groans, and death. Ventrix heard it all and it would never ever shut up. Why wouldn't it shut up? Why couldn't he be at peace? Why couldn't there be silence? Why? WHY?! WHY?!
"SHUT UP!!!" Ventrix took hold of Mind Cleaver and swung strong. A tree fell before the crazed killer. The tree fell with a loud crash, chasing away the animals of the forest from the giant monster with only blood lust in his veins. They ran and flew off from the noise that barely pierced Ventrix's cluttered mind.
So she was all like...
I can't believe I got it...
Just a bit longer and I'll get it...
Man, I gotta piss...
Did I let Fido in?
It's getting dark...
Fuck, Dave! Oh yes!
"SHUT UP!!!" Ventrix bellowed again and swung his sword again, another tree falling before his crazed might. The forest was his victim tonight. His victim to his crazed eyes to his clutter and broken mind. Ventrix was a twisted man, his rage was unending and he was prepared and hoping, hoping to see something that would give him a thrill of the kill. Something to lessen the noise in his head.
Ventrix took a deep breath, dragging his sword behind him. His mind was still clucking away, but he held back his anger. He took it out on some trees, that helped, but not much. He walked, like a troll in the darkness, his sword like the shadow of a giant club. He wandered blankly, his bulky body crushing the roots and leaves under him in faint crunches. Of course he could not hear. He could only hear the voices of the world and hardly much more. He couldn't concentrate on his own thoughts. He couldn't think, only act. However, Ventrix's next act...would be to silence the world just a bit more.

The forest was peaceful.
Sun dappled the ground as it streamed through openings in the canopy of the trees, falling on green plants and warming the earth. Birds sang from within the thick boughs of the evergreen trees, and small ground walkers played amongst the long, soft grass of the forest floor. Shadows danced as a breeze tousled the tree limbs, caressing them gently.
A hoof dropped softly into the shadowed grass of the forest, it's keeper a large horse, the rider a young woman. Dressed in a short black skirt that fell to about mid-thigh, knee high white boots, and a strapless purple top, she rode through the warm forest with a gentle smile upon her face. Long blonde hair fell over her shoulders and rested on even the back of the saddle she sat in. Holding the reigns with one hand, guiding her carrier only just, she brushed a limb out of her way with her right hand, coming to a small pool of water for the animal to drink from.
She dropped the reigns and let the horse drink, patting its neck lovingly, her sweet, melodic voice sounding quietly, "We're almost there, Whisper." The girl reached into the pocket of the red cloak she was wearing, the golden detail threads shimmering in the spots of sunlight, and pulled out a map. They were perhaps an hour or so away from their last relic before they would start back to the city once more.
The horse finished drinking and pulled its head up, flickering its easier. It danced sideways nervously, "What's wrong, Whisper?" A scream of fury erupted from nearby, followed by the crash of a fallen tree. Once more, the same chain of events. The girl took hold of her reigns with both hands, her smile shortening even more into one of confused concern, but still stayed at her lips, ever present.
Then the sound of footsteps, crunching quickly through the woods, towards...her... Her mind scanned the small clearing. There was little room to turn quickly enough to be out of the way before the steps reached her. She quieted her mind, and sat tall in her saddle, her small frame looking very innocent, but very vulnerable.
She set her mind on defense with the one thing that could save her.
Thoughts.

Ventrix continued on his way, his shadow slowly growing before the woman. It seemed like some sort of ogre, a creature of great mass regardless. Ventrix's head was hung, his sword dragging behind him, cutting the ground as he walked through the forest. The world continued to whisper in his ear, he couldn't make it out, wouldn't make it out. He did his best to ignore it once again. He wanted it all to just stop, he wanted it all to just be at peace. If only he hadn't met that witch. If only he hadn't been so dumb, so greedy. Ventrix would kill her now if he could, if he could find her and murder her. Maybe the voices would go away. Maybe, finally, he could sleep, meditate, become sane again. No, he could only quiet the world around him, voice by voice. Every man, woman, and child Ventrix silenced, his headache got better and better....and maybe he could help that now.
Ventrix looked up and saw a person. It hardly registered to him if it were a man, woman, or child. He just saw another mind that still lived. Ventrix gripped his sword tightly. He felt his rage boiling again, boiling as he got closer. As he came closer and closer, through the trees he saw it was a woman on a horse. The horse could die as well, it could think right? It had a brain and that was reason enough to murder the animals around him. Ventrix felt no remorse when killing little defenseless squirrels or ponies. He would not feel it here either. Ventrix's eyes stared with murderous intent as he then broke out into a full run from the forest thickness and into the small clearing the girl sat in.
"GRAAAAAHHHH!" Ventrix roared as he came from the trees like a giant wolf intent on slaughtering the rabbit it found. Ventrix charged, his sword now in both hands and raised into the sky. Ventrix charged and would swing his sword down on the girl without a second thought. He yearned to watch her head roll along the ground, empty and silent.

Zandara's eyes flickered around the clearing, eyes landing on every opening in the trees, finally spotting the fluttering underbrush. Moments later a large man rushed from the shadows, screaming at the top of his lungs, sword aimed for her neck. Whisper leaped into the air, jumping to the side and reaching out with her front leg to kick the man before them. Galloping to the other side of the pool, the horse and her rider stopped. The gentle smile still on her face, Dara cocked her head to the left, locked eyes on the man, and in a gentle voice said, "Pain." Throwing every ounce of her power at him, she pushed intense agony into his body, wincing through her gentle smile, she prepared for the cry of agony that would soon meet her ears.
She remembered the day she had pushed that magic inward, throwing pain through her bloodstream, like fire and ice meeting. It was an explosion from the core of the body, ice stabbing through every cell, fire burning up every molecule. And then there was the scream...
She hadn't recognized at first that she had screamed, but she had relived it in a dream, seen it in others. The scream was piercing, one only heard from the throat of someone experiencing a pain like no other. It was as if every bone was shattering; every organ bursting.
And that had been the smallest increment possible.
Focusing her attention back on the man, she intensified her power, pushing ever more magic into him. She wanted him incapacitated enough for her to escape, or to talk things out with him. She saw the crazed look in his eyes. This man was not whole. There was something harming his mind. Quieting her thoughts, she slowly lifted the magic from him, keeping her power in his body, never letting the pain drop from him completely.
She would be careful...but he had certainly caught her attention.

Ventrix swung strongly, but his strength was in vain. The horse was quicker than he anticipated and just like that Ventrix was beaten off. The horse gave him a strong kick to the sternum and all the wind exited his lungs. He breathed in deep, ignoring the pain of his now cracked ribs. He couldn't afford to wait on them, he couldn't afford to wait on his own body. His mind couldn't afford a moment's pause when another was near. Ventrix needed to silence that other mind now. His rage boiled ever more.
"You fucking bitch! I'll fucking make your he-...ah..." Something else boiled in Ventrix. Something spiked through his body, like he was shot with a harpoon. He felt something, something shoot through him, burning and shredding every nerve in his body. He felt like his hands were coming off. He felt like clawing out his eyes. He felt...quiet. It was a moment of euphoria, his mind was silent. His thoughts were clean. He could think clearly, he could remember things, his life, his loves, his...pain...pain...PAIN!
"GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!" It was perhaps the most frightening noise Ventrix ever shot from his throat. It was the sound of a madman, in pain, angered, and afraid, actually afraid. The forest was not still when his roar of anguish cut through the trees. Birds fled from their homes, animals dropped their current action, be it pouncing on a prey, or simply sleeping, the animals within fifty yards spared no time and ran. They would not be caught within sight of whatever beast created such a terrible noise. It was as if the greatest of demons had lost a limb, or the bravest of warriors lost his love. Something of great power was pained, and with it came that blind rage...but also silence. For once in a great many of years...Ventrix could hear his own screams, and his alone.
However that moment passed and the pain subsided. Ventrix fell to his knees, he could not bare standing any longer. He hugged himself, shaking. Voices slowly trickled in his brain again. Coming in and whispering, then talking, all at once. It was like a parent hearing all of his hundreds of children try to speak to him at once. It was maddening and it didn't take long until Ventrix's mind was broken once more. That woman shall pay, and her voice shall be silenced.

His scream erupted louder than she had expected and she winced, feeling his pain in a miniature form. It was fascinating how he had calmed when she had only just begun to unleash her power. She wondered if there was something within him that had been silenced by the experience. Something in his mind? His body? She wondered if another of her feelings may have the same effect. She would never do that to someone without their consent though...
Zandara patted her horse's neck, eyes never leaving the man on the ground as she dismounted slowly. Ever ready, but still smiling as usual, she approached him with care. She thought to herself, What has made you so angry? Kneeling before him, Dara flipped her hair over her shoulder and lowered her head to see his face, "Hello." She said quietly, "Have I intruded on you? If you would like, I can move along and leave you to your business. Though I must ask that you not try that again. I don't particularly enjoy inflicting pain on others."
Standing up slowly, she turned to the small pool of fresh water. As she bent to fill her flask with the cool liquid, she kept an eye on the shuddering person near her. Standing and offering him the water, she spoke quietly once more, "May I ask your name?" Again she wondered if the other side of her power would have the same effect, but forced those thoughts back after a moment. Not without his permission, she thought, not without his consent.

Ventrix remained still, simply shaking as the combination of physical and mental anguish clashed. It was like a tornado of emotions and pain whirling rapidly in the depths of his mind. The voices came and went, as did the shooting pain through his limbs. He couldn't tell what was worse. He couldn't tell of anything anymore. He felt himself cracking, almost splitting. Ventrix just wanted to rip his own head off, rip his arms off, his legs, he wanted to die. He just wanted to die right now. Ventrix's body kept switching back and forth, his mind kept coming and going. Whenever the voices were cause of his current pain, he wanted to get up and kill, kill this girl and silence her voice, but whenever he felt pain on the physical plain he could think clearly. He wanted to get up and run, he wanted to stop himself before he harmed anyone else. It kept going back and forth, like the blinks of an eye. The open eye was his clear mind, the closed eye was his broken mind.
"Hello."
Ventrix heard this voice when his mind was clean. He heard her and his mind remained sane for a moment. Ventrix looked up at her. She was beautiful, and for that moment Ventrix wondered if she were an angel sent from the heavens to save him. Then his mind switched again. He wanted to stand, to grip Mind Cleaver (which had fallen to the ground next to him) and watch her head roll. Salvation and Damnation. His mind could hardly take the pressure of the constant personality switch. Ventrix was slowly becoming a schizophrenic.
"Have I intruded on you? If you would like, I can move along and leave you to your business. Though I must ask that you not try that again. I don't particularly enjoy inflicting pain on others.""
Ventrix came back to his sanity again. He tried to summon something from his throat, something vocal. He tried as hard as he could, but his mind twisted again in the tornado. Ventrix squeezed his eyes shut, he slowly reached for his sword, but stopped as another shot of pain came up his back. His mind cleared. He couldn't answer her, he was too conflicted right now.
"May I ask your name?"
Now was the time, he had to summon what strength he could. He had to now. He had to do something before he killed her. Ventrix couldn't control himself, and it came to him. This is the only chance he has for becoming sane once more. Again his vocal chords shifted, he put breath in his throat and pushed something out. It came out as a weak whisper, like a broken child.
"He...he...help me...please. Help me. HELP ME! PLEASE! HELP ME!!" In a flash Ventrix stood once again, sword in hand, his eyes dead on the girl. He shouted like a wild animal as he swung his giant sword, aiming at her neck. His swing was clumsy and careless. His mind was far too twisted for him to apply any of the skill he obtained in his years of murder. Still the swing was strong and who knew what would happen if Mind Cleaver hit its mark.

Dara's eyes widened as the man began to speak. Help? She didn't have time to ask what he wanted from her, because as soon as she opened her mouth to form words his sword was swinging down at her again. She dropped and rolled, taking a slash to the front of her neck. Blood began to run down her white skin, but not enough to be deadly in the slightest. Just enough to sting. She stood again, several paces away from him now. In the brief moment she had to decide, she picked her poison. Tipping her head to the side, her sweet smile not even flickering, she spoke the word she hoped would break this spell, "Pleasure."
She felt the magic leave her again, a warm sensation directed at his entirety. She reached out with her left hand, palm upward, almost seeing the bright colored aura of magic connect the two. She pushed harder, intensifying the feeling, her eyes flickering over every ounce of his body, trying to soothe whatever pain was left in him, calm his mind. She was sure now that something in his head was wrong, but whether it was a defect or something brought on by a curse, she was not able to tell.
She reached toward him, hoping that he would calm his desire to kill long enough to let her help him. She lowered her power on the magic, knowing that very few could handle what she was giving to him without being rendered useless. She remembered the girl in her room... It had been such an innocent experiment... Yet she knew that the pleasure he would be feeling now was incredible, more than anything she'd ever felt before. She'd witnessed it's effect. She wondered if it would be at all the same. Calming the feeling, but still holding the magic between the two of them, she made sure that he was still feeling what he had been already, hoping that it would ease his pained mind, "Tell me how to help you, friend."

Ventrix's body relaxed suddenly. He felt something slip away, fade away...the pain. It was going...going...gone. Then something...something else bloomed. He relaxed, falling to his large knees again. This time he didn't shake or cry. He stayed on his knees for sometime, his eyes distant and his body still. He felt something in him grow and spread. There was a warm tingling feeling coming through his body, all the way from the tips of his toes to the ends of his hair. The feeling was...odd, but good. He let go of Mind Cleaver and let the feeling wash over him. As it came over him again and again Ventrix's mind began to come back together. The voices quieted a bit, they did not disappear, no they were still very much there, but they only whispered sweet nothings in his ear. Ventrix closed his eyes and leaned forward, his hands keeping him from falling. He gave a shuddering sigh of relief.
"Tell me how to help you, friend."
Ventrix looked up again and saw her. She truly was an angel, wasn't she? Ventrix looked up for what seemed like a long time, her smile never faltered he noticed. Never did it disappear...never. He looked on at her, trying to get his thoughts together...he could think. He could think clearly, loudly to himself. He described his own surroundings to himself in his head.
The grass...is green. The trees tall. The sky is blue. Her hair is blond, her skin creamy. I...can think...I can actually control my thoughts.
"What...what did you do?" Ventrix's voice was different now. Instead of the intense and low gruffness of his insane side, his voice was now handsome and soft. His eyes no long glared with hatred and murder, instead it was of confusion and guilt. For the first time in years, Ventrix was himself without the pain, without the headache, and without the murderous intent. Who was she?

Zandara giggled and cocked her head to the side, "You like that, don't you?" She stepped forward, keeping the feeling as intense as ever, "That's magic, my friend. Magic that you've only just tasted." She pushed harder, pouring more magic into him and creating even more of what his body was already filled with. She winked at him, "Men like it when I use it this way."
Kneeling down in front of him, she continued to hold the magic at its current gauge, not letting go for fear that the man might break down again. She flipped her hair over her shoulders, revealing bare skin to match her smooth legs, covered just barely by her short skirt. Gently she placed her hand on his knee, "I will not lift the magic unless you attempt to harm me again, and then it will come back as pain, more severe than what you felt before. So instead, friend, tell me your name, and what troubles you."
Sliding her hand gently down his leg to fall back to her own, she met his gaze with her large eyes, "You may call me Zandara Trifield. Fear not. I mean you no harm."

Yes, he could see how men would absolutely love this. If she were to combine her magic with some...intimacy then things would be rather...nice, too nice? Ventrix wasn't sure, but he knew he shouldn't really think of that...but why not? He could think whatever he wanted to now. He could think of sex all he wanted, he could think of anything now. He could think. Ventrix could think...it was almost unbelievable. Like some wonderful and bright dream, one he didn't want to end, ever. In his joy, Ventrix couldn't help but let a single tear run free. He was just so...happy.
"No," Ventrix suddenly piped up, "I won't hurt you. You've saved me...I don't want to...go back. I can't, its unbearable. I'll go mad! I won't hurt you...Zandara." Ventrix knew who she was now, and what she did. But could he be like this forever? No, she'd get weak and Ventrix couldn't take her with him...could he? No, as soon as he tried she could cripple him once again with the biting pain she inflicted. No, he...just needed to stay calm. The pleasure in him flowed through again, stronger this time. He gave off a small groan...it was great.
"...what troubles you?"
Ventrix supposed he owed her that, after what he attempted to do.
"My name is...Ventrix Gwallgof." Ventrix felt the pleasure still and basked in it for a brief moment then came back to the present, "And I have a curse, Zandara. The world, its always talking to me." Ventrix looked up to the trees, his face seemed much more relaxed, he seemed happier, yet his eyes held a great sorrow, "Everyone, all the minds of the world talk at once to me in my mind. I can't control the traffic, it just doesn't stop. I can't sleep, I can't think, I go mad. I can only kill to try and forget the pain. I was greedy, I wanted it all...and I got what I asked for." Ventrix leaned back and left his kneeling position to a sitting one. His large body kept towered over Zandara, but his posture was much weaker than from before.

Zandara's eyes widened, even through her smile, as he told her his story. She made sure to keep her attention focused on the magic flowing between the two of them, always feeling the warmth emanate from his body, just barely touching hers. She watched his face continue to soften, the single tear slide down his face. Her magic pulled back ever so slightly from him when he shifted as she prepared to move away from him, but regained its full force when he stopped moving at all. She realized quickly that this man did not want to hurt her. "Ventrix, you are aware that I cannot hold this on you forever. As soon as my gaze falls on something else, the feeling will go away, and you will return to what you were." Her smile faltered for the first time and her eyes grew sad, "I cannot lift this forever."
She blinked at him, her grin returning, but only just. She did not want to see this man suffer. She wondered if there was a way...Some magic that she could place within an object that he need only touch for reprieve. A soft sigh left her lips, "But until we part ways." She stood, curtsying with her eyes still on him to hold the magic, "I am at your service. Your tale has found a place in my heart. How may I make this moment better for you? I can intensify the feeling, I can cook you a meal, I can give you a good night's rest. Anything you please, you may have. Anything you wish, I shall oblige."

Ventrix's head dipped down in sadness. He couldn't be like this as long as she wasn't looking at him. So if she were distracted for just a moment the spell would be broken and he would go mad once again. Ventrix wished he could prevent this, but...how could he? What right did he have to trap this girl to a life of staring at him for eternity? It would be no less cruel than his own curse. Ventrix sighed. He wanted to cry, he wanted...he wasn't sure what he wanted. He wanted this...this state for the rest of his life. He wanted to be free of the insanity that came with the constant whispers. He couldn't go back to that...but he must.
"I am at your service. Your tale has found a place in my heart. How may I make this moment better for you? I can intensify the feeling, I can cook you a meal, I can give you a good night's rest. Anything you please, you may have. Anything you wish, I shall oblige."
Ventrix looked up again at her sweet face. She was indeed an angel. She was the light that relieved him of the darkness of insanity. Ventrix wondered if maybe he loved her. No, perhaps it was simply because she saved him from hell is why he felt so strongly to her. Yet she was beautiful and she was kind. If Ventrix could live an eternity with her, perhaps he would. Again, he reminded himself what a monster he truly was now. A life together was just a wonderful fantasy. One he could never live.
"What could I ask of you?" Ventrix asked, "You've already given me relief from my hell. To ask more would simply be selfish, and selfishness is what cursed me." Ventrix licked his lips, something did cross his mind, something that he never experienced, at least not in the most meaningful of ways. Ventrix did not feel comfortable with this question however. He was nervous, he felt selfish still...yet it was his only chance. He had to seize it.
"I...I do have one request," Ventrix then did say, "Zandara..." He got back on his knees and leaned down towards the smaller woman, his face was red now, "if you'll allow me. I'd like to kiss you. Please?" Suddenly Ventrix regretted his words, yet did not take them back. He took his chance, and would keep it.

Zandara smiled more broadly at his response. He seemed to be quite fond of her, or her magic anyway, and she certainly wouldn't fault him for that. The change in him from mere minutes ago was incredible. She dared not lift her magic. Perhaps she could intensify it though. Just for giggles. But he wasn't finished speaking yet. She cocked her head and blinked at him as he lowered to the ground in front of her, his face red and coming ever closer at a painfully slow rate. It was then that she realized that beyond the scars and with more relaxed eyes the man was quite attractive. His hair blew gently in the soft breeze, not unlike the mane of her mare, Whisper. His eyes were gentle and warm now that he was calm, and the rest of his body suited his face. He was certainly a gifted man appearance wise.
She caught his next words with surprise, her ears perking up and her eyes sparkling with delight, "Ventrix," she paused, realizing just what he was asking of her, "I-I'm not..." She couldn't bring herself to deny him this moment, however, and within moments she gave into not only her pity for him, but her desire for the very same thing.
She softened her gaze, the magic between them warming her skin along with the blush in her cheeks, "I would like that." She smiled at him, locking eyes, knowing that she must keep hers open to hold her spell completely. She blinked softly, and with a simple push of will, increased the magic's intensity, driving the next level of her power into his body as she prepared for his anticipated action.

Ventrix wasn't sure how to proceed. He'd never been so unsure of himself in his life. He didn't want to do something awkward or stupid or...he took another look into her eyes and felt something wash over him once again. All better.
"Thank you." Ventrix acted and thought no more about it. He cupped her cheeks in his large hands and just like that their lips met. Her's were warm, kind, and safe feeling. Just like her. Truly the lips of an angel. Ventrix let their lips rest together for sometime, he closed his eyes, he enjoyed the moment. He felt no shame anymore, no more regret, it was all gone. Be it her magic or the kiss that set him free, he wasn't sure. But for a moment, they were the only two in the world. Just him and Zandara. Finally he broke off, and he couldn't help but smile when he looked at her. No, not smile, but grin.
"That was...wonderful...thank you." Ventrix said. His body seemed to change. He was no longer so sad looking, rather strong, and happy. Zandara had an effect on him, and he never ever wanted it to go away.
