Name: Rua Dragonheart
Alias: n/a
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Nationality: Zailleon
Appearance: Rua is a tall young man, though slightly shorter than his elder sister, Kalia. He stands at five feet eight and a half inches, and weighs roughly a hundred and sixty five pounds. He is physically fit, retaining a lean, muscular build, and has a healthy, tanned complexion due to the amount of time he spends outdoors around his home. Like Kalia, he has inherited his looks from his father, and has slightly long brown hair, which is parted in the middle, letting the bangs fall to his temples on either side of his face. His hair, however, is slightly darker than Kalia’s, due to some influence from his mother’s genes. Also like his sister, he has intense green eyes, which can give him an imposing gaze whenever he appears irritated or angry. Though Rua has done much training and has been in several battles of his own already, he has yet to acquire any scars, unlike his older sister.
Rua’s usual outfit consists of heavier clothing designed for traveling, due to the harsher landscape where he and Mesia (and Kalia, when she is not stationed elsewhere) live. A long-sleeved, black undershirt is worn over a heavy, short-sleeved blue coat. The handmade cotton coat lacks a zipper, and instead of wrapped, right side over the left, and held down with a leather belt. Its sleeves go down to the elbows and are comfortably loose, and are of a slightly lighter color than the indigo sported on the body of the coat, and has a pocket sewn in on either side of the coat. The cuffs and collar are trimmed in brown leather to prevent fraying, and the coat extends over his waist and halfway down his hips. Thick, black pants are worn with the outfit, and leather boots are worn over them, as well as fingerless leather gauntlets over the sleeves of the undershirt. A simple scabbard is strapped down on the left side of his hip, and a satchel is strapped down over the right hip. A large, red cape, slightly ragged at the bottom, completes the ensemble.
Personality: Rua is of a more serious nature, compared to his two sisters, Kalia and Mesia. He is less prone to light behavior, tending to keep his emotions more reserved. He is friendly towards others, but usually distant, which can make it a bit difficult for others to try and approach or befriend him. Despite this, he is caring and protective of his few friends and especially of his family after the loss of their parents. He has a bit of a temper, and can get easily angered under the right circumstances. And, like the other members of his family, Rua is very stubborn in his beliefs. While in combat, this stubbornness can prove to be beneficial, making it difficult to take him down, but outside of battle, this stubbornness tends to backfire on him, as it can often lead to arguments and raised tempers when he’s particularly adamant about something—and when Rua has a problem, this stubbornness generally prevents him from willingly seeking the help of others, making him prefer to deal with it on his own.
Possessions: Rua has numerous possessions, both with him and at his home in Zailleon. The title and deed to the house and property were left to the three of them in their parents’ will, and his own room still contains all of his belongings from his childhood.
The cape he wears once belonged to his father, before he was killed. Rua found it among his father’s belongings some time after his parents’ deaths, and took a liking to it. He decided to keep it and wear it, as a memento and a connection to his father. The sword he wears on him is his own, a gift from Kalia shortly after he had completed the training she set for him after she had learned of his interest in the art. The weapon has a three foot long, straight-edged blade, in the form of a traditional long sword. The crossguard is plated in gold, slightly wavy in design, being thicker closer to the middle, and the ends are upturned slightly. The five-inch-long hilt is wrapped in old leather, and the spherical pommel at its base is also plated in gold.
At a young age, a newborn dragonet imprinted on Rua, and has become his constant companion. The creature, who he has named Relayia, is a female dragonet of the six-limbed variety, with a green-colored hide with a bronze-brown underbelly. The creature is tiny, able to sit on someone’s shoulder comfortably, and has a wide wingspan and tail length. Small horns extend from the back of Relayia’s head, and a small crest fans either side of it. Relayia is an uncommon breed of dragonet in the fact that its wings retain a full set of tiny claws, rather than a single finger. Like all dragonets, Relayia has jewel-like eyes that flash different colors depending on her mood. She is highly intelligent and will not hesitate to protect her master from harm using claws and flame. Due to having a dragonet imprinted on him, Rua has all of the supplies needed to take care of the tiny creature, including oil for her hide and dried food to feed her.
Special Abilities: Rua has learned how to use a sword, and has above average skill with one, though he is not a master with it. His training is based partially on that of the Stamarian military, due to the guidance of his sister’s teaching. He has learned how to hunt and survive in the wild, and how to keep his weapon, his clothing, and his gear in top form. He has magic potential, but it has never been tested, and therefore it is unknown how well he can use magic, though he is willing to learn. He knows how to care for horses, wyverns, and dragonets, thanks to Relayia imprinting on him and the animals Kalia has owned due to her status as a Knight of Stamaria.
History: Rua Dragonheart was born in the year 82 S.R., to a family of three: his parents, Russell and Via Dragonheart, and his older sister, Kalia. He would later gain a younger sister, Mesia, five years down the line. His existence help influence the development of Kalia, who became a tomboy as she became interested in the activities her younger brother was often participating in. Due to his sister’s kindness, Rua grew attached to the older girl, allowing them to bond, instead of causing the numerous conflicts siblings from other families tend to have. This bonding would influence him to take to his younger sister right away upon her birth, much to the relief and delight of his parents. Though there were arguments thanks to their stubborn natures, they thankfully remained close.
Like most boys his age, Rua developed an interest in outdoor activities, and novels and stories of adventure and heroics influenced him, much like they did Kalia. And like his sister, Rua also became interested in combat and took up training with the sword when he could, several years after his sister did. Unlike her, however, he did not become apprenticed to become a knight, nor did he seek out the chance. Much of his training, as a result, stemmed from Kalia teaching him what she had learned, combined with his own improvisations. He often explored the wilderness around his home, taking in the sights while on his own imaginary adventures, and was often joined by his sisters. As he grew older, he and his sisters also learned how to hunt and survive in the wilderness under their father’s tutelage. His time spent with Kalia diminished somewhat as her apprenticeship demanded more time of her, which allowed him more time to bond with his younger sister, as if making up for the difference of time in the bonding he shared with Kalia before Mesia’s birth. During one such adventure on his lonesome, Rua came across a clutch of eggs belonging to wild dragonets. As luck would have it, he had found the clutch on the day the eggs would hatch. Sensing the boy to not be a threat, the mother dragonet did not chase him off, and the boy watched as the infant creatures hatched and came out into the world. One of these creatures, a green-scaled female, summarily imprinted upon him, forming a companionship that would last as long as the two breathed life. He named the creature Relayia, and the boy brought her home and learned from his parents how to care for the draconic beast.
Upon reaching the age of thirteen, Rua’s life was irrevocably turned upside down.
One evening during the autumn of 95 S.R., the Dragonheart family had taken a trip to the town housing the children’s schools, meaning to attend a play that Mesia had been cast in. The family of five first stopped by a restaurant for a nice dinner before they set off to the school that the two younger children were enrolled in. However, that night, a tragedy unfolded as the town came under attack by strange creatures of unknown origin—creatures that indiscriminately attacked the townsfolk present in the streets. Many people were killed in the sudden assault, but Stamarian militia quickly mobilized and retaliated against the monsters while calling for backup from the nearest Stamarian military facility. Their mobilization, however, came too late for the Dragonheart family, and the children watched as a gigantic, canine-like beast with four arms slaughtered their parents in the streets—a memory that seared itself into the minds of each Dragonheart child. While the creatures were driven off by the reinforcements, the beast that killed Russell and Via Dragonheart was not among the creatures that were slain. Due to the rising prevalence of terrorist attacks that had culminated with the founding of the Korin the previous year, Stamarian officials speculated that the attack may have been a new kind of terrorist attack in retaliation for the Holy Empire of Stamaria’s recent military victories. It was, however, unusual to see such attacks that deep into the Stamarian homeland, and as the investigation went on, no connection to the terrorist organization could be found.
For the surviving Dragonheart children, it meant that their lives had drastically changed. Until such time that they were fit to live on their own, the three were taken in by their relatives, who did their best to help them cope with the sudden loss. While Kalia and Mesia had a relatively easier time coping with the tragedy, Rua ended with withdrawing instead, pushing away those he cared for as he attempted to cope with his depression and grief on his own—whether a matter of pride or some other reason behind this is not known to either of his sisters. The only one he did not attempt to push away was Relayia. Within time, Rua came out of his slump, though far more reserved than before. Luckily, at his core, Rua was still the same person he was, much to the relief of Kalia and Mesia. He returned to school and continued growing up along with Mesia, while Kalia signed up to join the Stamarian military.
Upon graduating school and moving back to his old home with his sisters, Rua took up the occupation of a kind of treasure hunter, searching the wilderness for artifacts he could sell in the towns, to make money to supplement what Kalia and Mesia brought in to maintain their life. During one such trip into town to sell his findings, Rua had a chance meeting with a young human woman who was interested in some of the old jewelry he had uncovered. The two hit it off nicely, and the girl, Alasea Dagenais, gave him a ticket to come to the show that was being put on by the traveling performance caravan that had recently arrived in town. It was that night he learned that the girl was a gypsy dancer of outstanding talent. His incredibly late return home did not go unnoticed by his sisters, who were incredibly amused by his encounter with Alasea. The dancer soon left with the caravan, but the two kept in contact with each other using letters and phonecalls, and often met up whenever they were in the area. When not hunting the wilderness or selling his wares, Rua currently takes care of his younger sister, keeping her safe and out of trouble while she nears the day she too will graduate from high school.
