Jay promptly brushed the stranger's' hand off. "No, it's best you stay in the back for a while. Just don't go back inside the caves." Without a care he walked off, and later on, well, let's say the locals weren't too happy with what had been told.
"How dare you bring an outsider into our sacred lands! Were you trying to get us all killed?!" Such outbursts continued to follow, as well as some signs of violent thoughts.
A small riot was starting to brew, and as the teenager had expected, it could only get worse from here. But he was prepared for whatever they all might dish out, for he felt he'd done the right thing in the end, and wasn't that what mattered?

Some of the folk parted, their angry buzzing growing in pitch as Darrick stepped into the circle around Jay. He was dragging a large tarp behind him, carrying a large object with a foul stench. The man brushed off the angry glares that the locals were throwing him, and made his way over to Jay.
"Good people of Lideria, I would like to show you something," he said to them, ignoring the snarled comments thrown at the "invader". "That thing being the creature that this young man and I just rid your caverns of."
And he threw back the tarp, revealing the remains of the freshly-slain Reaper for all of them to see.

Obviously alot of people were revolted by the sight, and not just the giant pile of flesh that'd just been dragged along the ground. While some of the masses began to quiet down at this, a few locals remained stubborn. Seemed they could find a negative in anything. "And you didn't think to call us for help?"
Jay tried to grant himself an opening. "If we'd waited it might've-"
"No excuse! We'll have to think about what to do with you once we send a crew to clean the caverns!" And almost as fast as they came, people began to depart, leaving mixed feelings all around.
The teen just shook his head low while letting out a small sigh. "I think now might be a good time for you to get out of here." Obviously, he was talking to his new 'friend' of sorts. "If you're lucky then maybe you'll get a boat crew that hasn't heard the news yet."

Darrick considered what had happened, not with the villagers and his guide, but with the Reaper and how it could've arrived in a location hundreds of miles away from their known habitats. He brought one gauntleted hand up to his chin, rubbing it through his beard thoughtfully.
"Yeah, alright," he said, nodding. "Let's go talk to your island's boat crews."
He swept around, his coat flaring briefly as he started moving to the docks. "If we're lucky, we can find the guy who brought the thing to the island in the first place."

This somewhat left Jay confused. "How could no one notice bringing something that big here?" The teen shook his head and sighed. This whole fiasco was starting to be more trouble than it was worth. But alas, he'd follow anyway. It was doubtful that no one at the docks would've heard about the Reaper, but it was worth a shot.

"It wouldn't have always been so big," Darrick told him as they walked. "Everything has to grow."
Of course, he had no idea how small the things were when they hatched in the first place, but that was hardly irrelevant.

"Great. So I take it their ship would be covered in goo too?" It wouldn't be all that long of a walk before the two would reach the docks. Still, even if there would be some sort of clue about whoever might've brought the Reaper to the island, what kind of chance would there be that they'd be docked in? And it wasn't like this guy could wait all day, could he?

Darrick could, much to Jay's chagrin, easily wait all day if he needed to. "Hopefully there won't be too much of a mess," he said. "I'm more worried about the thing reproducing. We don't need more of them nesting on the island."

"Ugh." The very thought of it made his skin crawl. Still, the man had a point.
And thus, the two came upon the docks. They were in slight luck. Only half were glaring, the other half didn't seem to pay the two any mind.
"So, what boat do we check out first?"

"First we'll want to find the shipping logs and manifests," Darrick said, gesturing to the shacks and warehouse. "Find out which ones went near anywhere near the kind of habitats Reapers live in. Can't be very many of them, given the town's size."

"And I take it you know all about where they like to fester...?"

"I knew enough to identify the one that defiled your cavern, didn't I?"

"Not hard to spot a bunch of goo dripping all over the walls."
"Hey Jay, friend of yours?" One of the sailors called out. Jay quickly kept his mouth shut. Friend? No. Acquaintance? Perhaps.
"Let's just go."

Darrick chuckled, waving at the lad to lead on to the shipping office. Jay knew the people around here better than he ever would, so he'd have to do the talking until it came to why they were asking around about certain boats.

And so he did.
After a bit of... convincing, the two were given their permission to inspect the boats. However, after exiting the office, the two were met with a series of glares.
One sailor stepped forward. "We've heard everything. There's no way you're getting anywhere near the ships." Jay let out a long sigh. "Look, we don't have time for this. Either you all let us get in and out, or we go through you and take our sweet time."
A few of the sailors backed off, but the others remained persistent. "Fine. I warned you." The advantage of being at a shoreline? Alot of water. With a swift motion, the stubborn shipmates were frozen to the ground they stood on. Jay flicked his hair out of his eyes. "Chill out for a bit while we look around. Let's go, Whip Guy."
