The man laughed heartily, amused by the outcome of the confrontation. "You got style, kid," he said as it subsided. "Someone like you is going to have a very bright future."

"Our future'll be getting dark if we don't hurry." With that, he went and began to run up a bridge of a ship. If anyone else with hydrokinesis showed up, the two would have a hell of a fight on their hands. "Now c'mon. Let's see if your scouting skills are any good afterall."

After some careful deliberations, the two of them finally managed to narrow down the only ship that could've been the culprit. Darrick quickly boarded the ship and made his way to the captain's cabin, with Jay hot on his tail, and rapped his knuckles on the door loudly, so there would be no mistaking it.

With all the commotion, the door sure opened slowly. Inside was an older man who looked to be in maybe his late 40s. "Ah, I've been expected you two. Come on in." The teen did so, eying the room as he went in. "You two know how to put on quite the show, you know that?" The old man let out a chuckle. "Now, what is it you two want?"

"Well, Captain, if you're aware of what we're up to, then you no doubt know about the Reaper the lad here and I managed to kill," Darrick started, clapping a hand on Jay's shoulder as he did so. "But, Reapers aren't native to this island and we're hoping to keep it that way. We think your ship might be responsible for it getting to the island in the first place."

"I see." The captain leaned back in his chair, as though he were in deep thought. "Yes, I've heard the stories. Who'd've thought our little Jay would help bring down something like that?" Jay turned his face away, a bit annoyed. The captain continued. "I'm not sure what to tell you both. You're free to look around, but I sure don't remember bringing a beast like that aboard my ship."

"I have no doubt that you weren't responsible," Darrick said amiably. "But one of your crew might've bought one before it hatched, thinking it was someone else, or it might've gotten on board on its own. It wouldn't hurt to find out, would it? Certainly you don't want any more of them coming to Lideria."

"Hmm, perhaps." the old man began to rub his chin. "I don't recall anything like that, we usually don't harvest eggs on this ship." Looking out the window, he began to think aloud. "Still this does mean we'll have be more careful from now on. If anything else like that showed up again, well, that'd be just terrible, you know."

"Naturally. We'll just scan through the hold and see if there's any signs," Darrick said. "You could always chat with your men in the meantime. You know how they can get on their shore leave."

"Very well. Do as you like. Good work lads." And with that, he walked past the two and out of the room.
"Well Mr. Expert, this is our last stop." Jay noted. "Let's see if that nose of yours works just as well here." It was a small stealth joke at how they were near water, signaled by the teen slightly waving toward the shoreline. "As well, by now someone's probably already thawing all the sailors out. Just saying."

"We can take them if they get rowdy," Darrick said confidently, thumbing his nose. "Let's head to the hold and see what we find."

And so they did.
"Well? I don't see any bile dripping over the walls."

"You hardly looked."
Darrick moved forward, glancing about on his second sweep of the hold's interior. It was dank, and filled with the smell of dust and antiquity. And fish, but he figured that was a holdover from being docked in a fishing community's wharf.
Finally, he stopped by one crate, and gestured to it. There was something sticking to the floorboards, and the corner of it looked to have been pushed out from the inside. He kicked the side of the crate.
The side of the crate fell, the nails in it bent and worn away, revealing the interior to be coated with a viscous slime and a horrible stench. A crusty-looking sac was embedded over an antique bowl and other assorted junk.
"You were saying?" he remarked, looking back up at the teenager.

"Iii-was asking what we should do about it." the teen recovered quickly. "Do we set it all on fire in the middle of a wooden boat?"
"Whatever you kids do you should do it fast." It was the captain. "Some more people have arrived, and they sure don't look happy."

"Tell them I didn't come here to win popularity contests," Darrick said dismissively.
"Well, I'd say the thing got in on its own, but it wouldn't hurt having your crew crack open the rest of your cargo and make sure there aren't more," he advised, stepping away from the opened crate. "And next time you're in Carom, have your men keep a close eye on your cargo. Reapers can be tricky little bastards."
