Only the kid had swung the flat side of the blade at him. He promptly blocked it with an open palm. "...I don't care how lousy I am compared to the other soldiers, I'm still more than a match for you." He then swatted the blade away and turned his attention back to the Arch-Vile. "And a weapon is only as useful as the one who wields it. You are useless."

TIMING!
After the parry, the blade of the sword began to shine a brilliant light, effectively blinding the Arch-Vile and its minions.
"What the..." were the only words the boy could muster at this sight. After asecond of thought, herealise the sword gave him the edge he needed. Rushing forward, he began slashing at the Arch-Vile. The beast in turn swung its claws wildly, getting only a few scratches in here and there.

So that's what a knight's blade can do...? Well, the thought would've continued, but the minions were trying to turn him into ribbons. But since they were bundled up... "Wretched spawn... Return to the abyss!" He then crushed a portion of them with a giant ball of light. More simply took their place. Grand.

"Take this! ..And this! And THAT!" Such calls were made as the kid continued to slash the Arch-Vile's' body; despite getting a few cuts himself. The two swordsmen continued to fight off, and were actually holding their own pretty decently, until... the light surrounding the blade faded away. "Oh... oh crap."

And the moment the light faded, they swarmed en masse. They probably would've begun tearing away at their flesh, but the bracelet began to give off a blinding light, pushing the creatures back.
Tell me, soldier, how much do you want to live?
"W-What? I'm not going to let myself die like this! Not because of somebody like him! And certainly not because of these creatures!" And in response to his whining, his arm turned towards the blocked path, the bracelet releasing a beam of light.
Then run.
And much to Ryo's surprise, the creatures had begun to back away. Not as though he was going to let this chance go to waste. He gave the kid a smack in the head as he began his run back towards the exit. "You'd better move it, kid!"

"Uhh, right!" Sparing no time, Zac ran with the Spearman out toward the exit of the mines, running into little trouble along the way. Once there though, he planned to make a run for it while the soldier wasn't paying attention. No way was he about to get caught. Snazzy bracelet or no.

Only there was a crowd of guards stationed around the entrance to the cave, but were they really going to ignore a beam of light bursting forth from some abandoned mines? The moment the two reached daylight, Ryo was deluged in questions and several of the guards began surrounding the odd child.

"Heheh. D'love ta stay and chat, but I gotta go!" and like that, Zac took what little opportunity he had to try and make a run for it.

But Ryo wasn't going to let that happen again. "Hey! That's the kid who raided the warehouse! He's holding the blade and everything! He was even threatening to kill me!" That last part was just brushed aside, but the previous shouts? They had the guards swarming around the kid.

And the sly getaway had soon become a moment of desperation as guards continued to surround the kid. Terrible images flashed through his mind, causing the boy to lash out. The cuts were nothing serious, but they were enough to make the guards hesitate so Zac could run. "I will not go back to a place like that again!" And sure enough, he'd dissapeared.

Several guards were quick to head off and search for him. Ryo, for once, let it go. He had actually done his job. Well, mostly. Despite the prodding, he simply ignored the questions. Odds are his superiors would end up asking later anyway. Oh wait! He was supposed to be waiting for somebody! Perhaps he could make it back to the barracks before anybody noticed...
