The Wood Temple
Long ago, Kemei was very different, deemed the Cradle of Life, beautiful and prosperous. It was an unfortunate turn of events within this very temple that left it broken and shattered as it is now. It was just after the cataclysm had begun to subside and the world was coming to recognize itself as a new creation, when peace was coming down to the earth again. Yet within the Wood Temple, something was building, reaching a critical mass, something dark and dangerous. A collection of dark magic, churning and growing until it finally burst, shattering the temple into pieces, altering forever the beautiful structure that had once been, and sending a ripple effect throughout the rest of Kemei.
Resting atop a hill, the remains of the beautiful temple are found in a strange portion of Kemei. Unlike the rest of the country, they are not found in desert sands, but in a forest devoid of foliage, shaded only by burnt, dead trees, and sunk into ashen ground. The ruins can be found within the trunk of a gigantic hollow tree-stump with more of a rotted out appearance than a chopped down one. Jagged bark and splintered wood guard the rim and what rests within. The upper portion of the architecture is generally destroyed; collapsed and broken, shattered beyond any form of repair. Most of the ruins are beneath the ashen ground, cold and hard, every visible bit petrified to an almost stone state, burnt and seared, but shining and polished in appearance as well.
Once protected by a massive and vicious arboreal creature, the death of the Wood Temple has resulted in its destruction—now, more sinister creatures lurk within its depths. The Gravespinner lurks within the deepest central shaft of the temple’s remnants, lording over the Nightmares that brood inside its ruined interiors. Parasitic creatures writhe through the hallways, seeking out the last remnants of life that wander haplessly inside.
