Meal in hand, he scurried to an open chair and began eating. Then he glanced at the bracelet and his appetite waned. How many times had he tried to pry the accursed thing off with no luck? Maybe this time he'd get lucky... Unsurprisingly, it didn't even budge. Having had his fill, he tossed away whatever was left and began walking back to his room. Not much else to do but lay around until he was called.

What Ryo did not know is that between his leaving the barracks and his departure from the mess hall, the door to his barracks had been enchanted to be locked, and protected with an invisible, electrified barrier that'd deliver a light shock to anyone who attempted entry.

And upon contact with the door, he was shocked. A whole lot. Doing what any rational person would do after such an occurrence, he ran away mumbling about the door being possessed.

A random soldier soon passed by the hallway, and having only seen the Spearman running off, assumed that maybe something was going down in Ryo's' quarters. They reached for the doorknob and gave it a turn, then being made into the equivalent of a fried pretzel for their trouble. That'll teach them to be concerned for the well being of others!

From the battlements of the fortress walls, the mage sighed in disappointment and typed in her findings into a holographic screen. Still no reaction from the bracelet, she noted. It didn't seem to detect the barrier, nor did it see through my illusions. Judging by the report, the bracelet may only respond to threats that the wearer knows about... but I still have more tests to run.
With a gesture, the woman banished the enchantment, returning the door to normal. Onwards to the next test, she thought.

Still unsure of what had just happened, Ryo scurried off to the washroom. A few splashes of water in his face and a thorough check later, he found nothing out of the ordinary. He gave a sigh and slumped over the sink he was using, staring into the mirror set above. "Either I'm going crazy or the world hates me... Par for the course, huh?"

Just then, the same soldier from earlier waltzed into the washroom as he was now feeling fine out of sheer convenience. Patting Ryo on the soldier and wearing a smile, he spoke. "Hey, Ryo! Buddy! How are you? Did you see that one girl in the mess hall earlier? I think she was totally checking you out."

He took a moment to ponder this, but it just led back to his original thought. "Why?"

"Ah women, you can never tell what they're up to." the soldier shrugged. "Still pal, I think you've got a shot at this." He was lying of course, Ryo didn't have a chance with anyone after what happened in the courtyard that one time, but hey.

Ryo was staring blankly. "...I still don't have a clue who you're talking about or why they'd be interested. On that note, why am I even asking? We both know I'm not interested." Veering away from the subject, he posed a question. "Anyway, have you seen that mage... Examiner person? I need to ask them about a possessed door."

"Haven't seen anyone like that." the soldier replied, rubbing his chin. "What door are you talkin' about? If it's the one to your room, it's been fixed."

"...How would you know? Wait, you're in league with the door! I should have known!" As though he were being serious, he began screaming of treason as he ran from the washroom.

Ryo never saw the mage standing beside the door he ran out of, and she watched him bemusedly until he disappeared from her sight. Sighing, she walked off in the opposite direction. "I suppose we can scratch magical detection on others off the list," she said as she dismissed the spell she had cast on the soldier that had just accosted her patient.

"...When did I walk into the washroom?"

The moment Ryo reached his door... Well, after a few taps to check for shocks, he knocked it off the hinges and proceeded to tear it to pieces. That door would never harm another soul again. As the moment of violence faded, he began to think. No sightings of the mage after those two runs across the area. Was the captain messing with him? No, that's just ridiculous. Why would he waste the time? Then there was the once possessed door and the conspiring soldier... Something was certainly off. Could something have happened to the mage?
