The Islands
Throughout the Great Sea are dozens of islands, strewn about as if scattered by the breath of the wind god. These islands can vary in size, ranging from large, volcano-crowned paradises to smaller, sweeping coral reef atolls, to uninhabitable submerged mountains. The distance between them can also vary: some islands can be within sight of one another and easily traveled between through the use of ships, yet others seem to be surrounded by nothing but water, for as far as the eye can see. Occasionally, islandic shrines can be found on these islands, hiding away ancient treasure and arcane secrets.
Life is abundant in the Great Sea, both across its widespread islands and beneath the waves. Islands are known to be inhabited by a wide range of creatures, including native sentient races living in coastal and jungle villages, practicing their native worship, Murlocs living in the coastal waters around them, and all sorts of other creatures. Their forests are known to be home to vicious giant spiders and Dinosoids, and the volcanoes surrounded by them are inhabited by dangerous creatures such as Dodongos, Fire Giants, and even dreaded Red Dragons and the Fireborn.
The waters of the Great Seas are dangerous in more ways than one. The weather conditions throughout it are wild and temperamental, often witnessing violent squalls and thunderstorms that threaten those going by sea, causing sailors to risk their boats and their lives to massive waves and deadly lightning. Furthermore, every ocean is the home of bands of pirates, sailing about in search of treasure and ships to plunder. Many of these pirates make their homes on distant, otherwise-uninhabited islands. Some of these pirates have done so well for themselves that they have moved up to the use of airships, and attack from the skies. And more dangerous still are the predators of the deep, for along the waves are Blue Dragons and Seasnakes, while beneath it are dangerous sharks, vicious, multi-headed Scylla, and the wondrous and majestic Gan, the most powerful creature to ever swim through the oceans.
