"Answer me, smartass."

"Hey now... No need to be mean. If you must know, I'm from Stamaria."

Regul was taken back. A Stamarian? The stories Regul had heard on Stamarians were awful, and yet, this man had just saved an innocent in the town known for its criminal activity, and even made sure to be non-fatal in his methods. Needless to say, the knight was conflicted. But after quick consideration, stomached what he could. "Good to know you Ryo." He held a hand out for a handshake.

And Ryo shook it. "Likewise. Regul, do you see that dark, damp, back alley? Let's casually walk down it. You know, the one with the dead end."

"Yeah okay." And so they did.

The sound of a gunshot quickly followed as the two stepped into the alley, causing the reed wall next to them to blow apart into slivers and splinters.
"I wouldn't be going that way, friend," said a voice in a heavily-accented Stamarian dialect behind the two of them. The sound of a revolver cocking followed suit. "I'm surprised you noticed we were following you, but you're still out of help's reach. Now, why don't you turn around nice and slow like a good little Stamarian bastard."

Ryo just spun around and gave them a disapproving look. "You guys should really be more careful! Misfires are the leading cause of friendly fire!"

"That's pretty mean, big guy..."

The dark-skinned man standing behind the two, dressed in the colorful, light clothing of the natives of Cher Plek, merely grinned, keeping his gun trained on the soldier. "That was no misfire, friend," he said. "That's what you call a warning shot."
"You're out of your element, lad," said yet another voice, this time coming from further into the alleyway. "Children like you shouldn't be this far from home."

Totally ignoring the strangers who'd appeared, Regul turned to his new 'friend' of sorts. "I think you're confusing height with width."

"Huh. You're probably right." He placed his arms behind his back as he turned back to the man. "Anyway... Not to be rude, but just what do you all want? I've already been robbed a few times. It's not like I've got anything left."

"We don't take Stamarians in our homeland lightly, kid," yet another man said, stepping up beside the first one. He too was armed. "Never have and never will."
Two more men appeared, all with dark skin and in colorful clothes that blended in with the rest of the scum in Rogueport. Some of them carried wicked-looking flanged maces, others with knives and guns.
Using his free hand, the first one reached into his pocket and pulled out a medallion, letting its chain drape over his knuckles and the coin itself to dangle under it. On it was a symbol that had burned itself into Ryo's mind when Knight Dragonheart had showed it to him weeks back. "You're in Korin territory, friend," he said, his grin widening. "And now there's blood in the water and the sharks are circling."

The Korin huh? Regul had heard of scum like these before. So it was scum trying to control other scum. Wonder how that'd turn out. It was then the knight noticed that Ryo was slightly starting to twitch. "The thing about sharks is... if they ever stop, they die."

"So why should we be stopping?" one of the men asked, sneering. The man behind them in the alley had approached silently, though he had no doubt the two knew he was getting closer.
"The only ones that will die in these waters, my friends, are you."
