Pharos
South of Kemei rests a natural desert region, one not formed by the destruction of the Wood Temple and the slow death that followed it. Here, along a small bay, several cities lay around its coast, and across the bay resides a large, expansive island crowned by the massive structure known as Pharos. This gigantic lighthouse spans as high as a mountain, and is made of an unusual material colored in a pale, yellowish white, like ancient bone, crowned with a dome, much like a minaret, made of bronze metal. Faint, intricate designs are set into the walls of Pharos, seen only if one studies it close enough—each design works as a focal point, spreading subtle magic into the frame of the structure and reinforcing it to unimaginable levels. At the top of the lighthouse, a massive, blazing magical fire is contained within a beacon chamber that focuses its unearthly light into a coherent beam, one that can be seen for many miles as it slowly revolves in place. Airships manned by researchers and archeologists have noted that a group of people gather around this great beacon, but no contact has been made possible—the platform around the beacon is warded with magical barriers, preventing any entry from the top.
The country of Galsia, which contains the island of Pharos within its borders, has set up a large military compound at the base of the lighthouse, both as a strategic defense point, and as a possible first line of defense should the guardian creatures within Pharos escape its walls and pour out into the open world. The walls of this military outpost stretch out around the circumference of Pharos, complete with many watchtowers and other defensive installations. Mages and summoners are among its primary soldiers, as they draw magic from within the walls of Pharos to summon great beasts in times of battle. Among these creatures are Aeralfos, Gargoyles, and Colossi. Within Pharos itself, the floors are patrolled by unholy Doom Guardsmen, undead skeletons, and bloodthirsty minotaurs, and its various treasures are protected by Lizalfos and Griffins, lying in wait for hapless intruders to stumble into their lairs. More dangerous monsters are rumored to be at the higher floors, those where few people strong enough reach.
