Name: Button
Alias: Ms. B
Age: 38
Gender: Female
Nationality: Valtheran
Appearance: Much like her brother, Bob Rasven, Button most closely resembles some form of abnormally large badger.
She stands at the height of three-and-a-half feet (a uniform height that is shared by all of the Tydorian Badgers), and weighs just a little over fifty pounds. Almost her entire body is covered in pitch-black fur which is relatively short, but still lengthy enough to hide items like holsters underneath. Button differs from her siblings in that she has a shock of painfully obvious blue fur upon her head, much like a mohawk (though it is no longer than the rest of her fur).
Her head is much like a true badger’s, triangular in shape, with a powerful jaw for biting. Her face is highly expressive, her ears are small and unobtrusive, mostly flattened against her skull. Her rarely-blinking eyes have irises which are a piercing orange in color, giving the small creature a laser-like stare that has been known to unman both allies and opponents. Her vocal cords and mouth have been altered slightly to allow for full and unimpeded speech.
Her small body is surprisingly muscular, evidence of a literal life-time’s worth of training. Her arms are somewhat lengthier than would appear normal, having been modified to give her a longer grip (they have a reach of a little over a foot). Her forward paws have also been modified to grasp items, even going so far as to have a full four fingers and thumb. The same lengthening modifications were performed upon her hind legs, though without the hand-like additions, further reinforcing the fact that she is mostly supposed to move like a biped.
Her teeth have been enhanced with additions of Komala DNA, giving them a natural sharpness far beyond what one would expect from the small creature. Her claws also were modified, having been made retractable and replaced with sharpened titanium counterparts.
Attire: Button dresses simply in cut-down Valtheran military cargo-pants and an open-faced matching vest. The pants are held up by a nodescript black leather belt. The Vest is relatively simple and plain, except for the addition of a bright yellow pin upon it that proclaims in bold letters “BOSS”.
A trio of holsters are also included in her attire (she rarely, if ever, removes these.) All of the holsters are black and intended to be hidden within her fur. One is a shoulder-holster under her left arm. The second is just above her right hip, hidden beneath her vest. The third is on her right ankle. The two upper holsters are designed to carry pistols, while the third is for a combat-knife.
In combat, she exchanges her pants for a matte-black set. Also trading in her regular vest for a combat vest (still left open-faced and unzipped in most situations).
Special Physical notes:
1. Button’s internal temperature is a few degrees higher than other creatures due to her magical nature. She is noticeably hot to the touch.
2. While Button may appear to be a badger, she is not. She is a highly specialized (and unique) magical construct, much like a Golem.
3. Button is female in gender, and her species does have both male and female creatures. They cannot physically reproduce, however. As they are completely and irreversibly sterile.
4. Button’s species were created based on specific plans, which have since been destroyed. Without the original creator of the plans, there is no hope for a perfect duplication of her species.
Personality: Button is a terrifying mix of a sociopath and a genius rolled into one cute, furry package. She’s brilliant, cold, calculating and highly deceptive. Caring only for her siblings and the Elven keepers which form the Tydorian Cadre (though she has been known to occasionally allow others to enter the Cadre, and thus conversely extends her care to them as well).
Button is highly motivated, though towards what goal, only she seems to know. She’s willing to work with anything and anybody if it furthers her goals in a suitable manner. That is not to say that she doesn’t have standards about who she works with. As she does, very high standards, in fact. She rarely ever works with incompetents. And mass murders she generally feels are sloppy. The same applies to terrorists (such as the Korin.) She’s a big fan of applied terror, though for some reason Button views the terrorist Korin as shoddy, and Button doesn’t like shoddy. But with every potential ally, she takes their attributes into account before deciding it they are useful enough to ignore their flaws.
To make matters worse, Button has the unnerving habit of showing radically different personality styles in a short period of time. Usually she is the cold, calculating commander with an agenda. But occasionally, she seems infinitely more child-like and innocent, almost incapable of doing anybody harm. It’s a fair guess that this is yet more trickery by an extremely tricky creature, designed to give her an edge. Nevertheless, Button is a good enough actor that she can pull off innocent child-like teddy-bear with a brilliance one would only expect from a theatre. Of course, she can switch back to the cold, ruthless killer in the blink of an eye just as easily.
An additional oddity to her personality, Button has a fascination (some might call it an obsession) with buttons. Of the sort that go on coats.
Yet even for all of her vicious nature and odd habits, Button has a few redeeming qualities. She is loyal to her siblings and the Cadre. And she has a twisted sort of honor, if she gives her word, she will keep it (which is why she rarely gives her word).
Possessions: A small collection of rare and expensive buttons (Including the Hesch Mk1, of which only five are still in existence.)
Modified Valtheran BR12: The Valtheran BR12 is a discontinued battle-rifle that never saw mass-production, how Button got ahold of one of the lightweight weapons is anyone’s guess. The originally lengthy rifle (designed to function as a middle-ground between most battle-rifles and full on sniper-rifles) has been cut down (mostly in the stock) to fit Button’s small figure. The weapon was originally referred to as a gun that was “Mostly barrel with a trigger as an afterthought” looks even odder without much of the weapon’s already small stock.
It has a high-powered non-standard scope attached, and a twenty-round clip (7.62 mm armor-piercing rounds are the standard loadout). The entire weapon is matte black and has a length of a little over three feet (when fully extended), leading to a somewhat ridiculous portrait when wielded by Button.
The experimental barrel is specially designed to cut down on length when not in use, retracting in on itself with the flick of a switch. This also leads to it being used as a lethal Personal-Defense-Weapon as well.
When not in use, the weapon is slung over Button’s back via a simple black sling.
Special Abilities: Much like any member of her species, Button was built for lethality and it shows in her combat prowess. She is highly skilled in several martial arts, the favorite of the Tydorians being Krav Maga. However, she is also a vicious and almost un-equaled master of the Wing Chun martial art, mixing it liberally with her Krav Maga training for a deadly close-range fighter that, when coupled with her extreme combat longevity, makes for a prodigious combatant. Not only can Button be highly lethal, but she can keep the fight going for extreme periods of time. Hoping to outlast any opponent that she cannot defeat outright.
Her magic, like any Tydorian, is focused on enhancing her small body to the point where it can easily compete with (and outdistance) other, larger creatures in strength, speed and reflexes. She has been recorded at lifting upwards of two-hundred pounds (allowing her to employ many of the throws and other moves her martial arts incorporate). Her quadruped speed movement has been clocked at roughly twenty miles per hour (MPH) and with her heightened endurance she can keep that speed for several hours without needing rest. Added to that is the fact that as a Tydorian, she requires far less rest than most any other creature.
In combat, she is not impossibly fast, but is agile enough that she is able to deflect or redirect a majority of enemy blows. Also, her pain thresh-hold is heightened, allowing her to ignore much of the damage that does get through her formidable defenses.
Due to her magical nature, Button has exemplary control of her mind, in that she is able to easily resist most telepathic probes. Also, she is highly resistant to any sort of magical binding spells that might hamper her ability to use magic. This defense is almost impossible to overcome, as she is essentially powered by magic, and the binding of said magic would almost surely cause her to swiftly expire.
In addition to that, Button is a highly proficient marksman with most projectile and energy-based weapons, as well as being able to easily use many edged weapons should her enhanced claws and teeth prove to not be enough in close-combat. Her eyesight is keen, her hearing sharp, and unlike her brother, Bob Rasven, Button actually has a good sense of smell. She is also a skilled small-unit commander, able to use her devious mind to great advantage in securing victory on the battlefield.
History: The general history of the Tydorian Badgers is well-known in most upper Valtheran military circles. They were created by the mad mage Tydorian to bring his vengeance upon the Taron magi. The mage was found out and killed while attempting to flee, and the Tydorians offered their services to Valtheran as payment for their continued survival.
The Valtheran government was understandably dubious about using the Tydorians, seeing as how the creatures only existed due to the deaths of several dozen mages. That is, their creator had to kill several mages and use their magic to power his small monstrosities.
What is not generally known, however, is that there existed a subtle difference in two of the Tydorians, those two being Button and Bob Rasven. This difference was in how they were created. Instead of requiring several mages to power them, she and Rasven each only required one mage as a “power-source”.
Tydorian had theorized that each Tydorian required a hefty amount of magic to survive, more than any one mage could provide. Most of his creations had each required the deaths of three mages each. The fact that Button and Rasven each only required one mage as power indicates that the two mages were extremely powerful, especially considering that Button and Rasven are the two most lethal Tydorians.
The difference warranted enough concern by Button that she hunted down all recordings of hers and Rasven’s creations and destroyed them, saving only a few pictures that gave clue as to who their magical “donors” were.
Rasven’s power-source (as the Mage Tydorian referred to the mages he murdered) was a young Elven girl who presumably would have grown to be a powerful archmage later in life. Button’s was an elderly human male, and judging by the recordings of his capture by Tydorian, he was an equally powerful mage, requiring much effort by Tydorian to take prisoner.
Why Button felt this odd knowledge worthy of covering up is anyone’s guess, though it has been noted that at certain times, she and her brother (who share a very close sibling-like relationship) have behaved strangely, even for psychopathic assassins.
Something that lends credence to the importance of this information to her and Rasven, and shows far they are willing to go to keep their secret truly secret is the fact that while official records list their creator as “gunned down while fleeing”, the truth of the matter is that Button and Rasven not only aided on the tracking of their creator, but in his death as well. Records are spotty, but it is known that Tydorian caught wind of his imminent arrest and fled while security forces were containing his creations. It is also known that Button and Rasven broke out of containment, left an easily recognizable trail for security forces to follow, and eventually were found over the body of their creator. They surrendered easily and spoke not a word of what had happened, though it is easy to guess that they were the ones who killed their master, and not Valtheran Security forces.
Besides that small blip on her record, Button’s life was mostly uneventful (besides numerous combat missions in dangerous and dire circumstances). Though she was recorded as going off orders several times, and even disappearing for weeks at a time without reason or rhyme. These infractions were ordered expunged from her record by General Donovan Winter (C.O. Task Force Shadow Wolf, Valtheran Army) at the outset of her cadre’s assignment to the Task force.
Miscellaneous: Button once used her furry animal appearance to blend into a stuffed-animal display in a shopping mall when one of her operations went horribly wrong and she was nearly exposed to the public. The operation ended with successful retrieval by her Keeper (Elven Archmage, Audrey Valencia) several hours later. Valtheran government was billed three gold and seven silver coins for the money Keeper Audrey had to expend to “buy” Button from the toy-store. The clerk demanded such an exorbitant price due to the fact that the “stuffed toy” lacked a tag and had an extremely life-like appearance.
