This thread is for an alphabetical listing of any flying creatures you can possibly encounter in Ymaggion. If you wish for this list to be expanded, go suggest a creature in the Creature Suggestion thread. Like the land and the sea, the skies of Ymaggion are populated by an array of flying creatures. Due to the fantastic nature of the world they live in, these avians come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and some of them wield unusual power over the world and magic. Avians can be found on almost every continent except for Cyra, and are often hunted for food and sport by the various peoples of the world. Druids, on the other hand, have been known to befriend and control such birds, using them to accomplish tasks they themselves cannot complete.

A-B[/b] The Blood Eagle is the most majestic bird in Ymaggion, and the largest bird in existence. Created through centuries of magical mutation, these gigantic birds blaze with an unnatural crimson aura, and have wingspans that stretch across cities, allowing them to rival airships when in flight. Blood Eagles, due to their size, cannot fly on their own. Instead, they have developed a peculiar control over gravity, allowing them to reduce their weight by decreasing the level of gravity around them. Blood Eagles keep to high mountains, where they roost at their peaks. They are considered extremely dangerous, especially if they fly out over populated regions, in which their gravity fields wreak havoc throughout the towns and cities. Their main method of attacking is by decreasing the gravity to the point where its attackers float, then increasing it again to crush them into the ground.[/ul]

C-D[/b] The Cliff Racer is an extremely persistent, four-winged reptilian bird. Cliff Racers live in mountainous areas, and, due to their lack of legs, never stop flying, and never sleep. On top of this, these creatures are extremely territorial and will viciously attack anything that intrudes on their territory, sweeping over and striking with pecks from a razor-sharp beak and a barbed tail. They will chase intruders relentlessly until killed, and running from them often only attracts the attention of other Cliff Racers and instigating an entire pack of them to give chase. They are among the most hated creatures on the planet, and due to their rapid reproduction rate, it has been impossible to drive them into extinction.[/ul]

G-H[/b] Griffins are majestic and deadly creatures, looking to have the head, wings, and talons of a giant eagle at its front, and the body of a huge lion at its back. Griffins are fierce creatures in battle, able to rend and tear apart enemies with ease using its talons and beak. They are fearless, and have been known to fight off creatures larger than itself, including lesser dragons and giants. They generally live in mountainous areas, using small caves as dens when they are not on the hunt. Griffins are often tamed by dwarves as flying mounts, while others are summoned and tamed by mages or nobles to protect certain chambers in fortresses. They are genetically related to the Hippogriff, but are far less approachable in the wild. HippogriffHippogriffs are proud and majestic creatures, looking to have the head, wings, and talons of a giant eagle at its front, and the body and tail of a large horse at its back. Like the Griffin, a Hippogriff can be a fierce and dangerous opponent in battle, having all of the physical traits as their more feral cousins. While no less fearless, the Hippogriff has been known to be more cautious with what it fights, but generally does not back down from a challenge. Hippogriffs can be appoachable in the wild, and by proving themselves not a threat to them, Hippogriffs have been known to aid sentients with tasks, usually by allowing them passage upon their back. Curiously enough, the Hippogriff cannot by tamed, as their natural pride drives them to defy all attempts at domestication, usually with catastrophic result at those who try.[/ul]

K-L[/b] The Kargaroc is a large, predatory bird that looks like a reptilian vulture. Kargarocs look similar to Pterodactyls, are exceptionally strong, and have eight-foot wingspans. They are particularly aggressive creatures, and spend their days flying around plains and mountains, gliding on thermals as they search for food. Kargarocs will attack anything not larger than them, including humans and other sentients, by swooping down into place and attacking repeatedly with its hooked beak. They have been known to be domesticated by several smaller races, such as goblins, which use them as flying mounts. Kargarocs can be found practically anywhere but Cyra, and while they normally hunt on plains, they tend to make their nests on high cliff faces. Kryll
Kryll are mutant bats with two pairs of wings, one on top of the other. They group in massive swarms and appear only at night. They may die by a powerful light and are stunned by normal light. They have bright white or yellow eyes. White for male, yellow female. The teeth on the Kryll are razor sharp as are the blades edged on the wings. One may be a nuisance for someone with a lot of armor, but a swarm may get through even the toughest armor and dice away at their prey before carrying back the remains to the nest. The Kryll usually live in run down buildings, enjoying the solitude in the day. They may also live in caves. The best defense would be either a shield of light or to remain in the light at all times until sun rise. Kryll are have a wingspan of roughly 2 feet at max.[/ul]

M-N[/b] Netch are unusual creatures, resembling gigantic floating jellyfish. Netch are peaceful herd creatures that are suspended in the air by a numerous internal sacs within their hides, which are filled with magical vapors that their bodies produce naturally. Their hides are extremely lightweight, yet durable, and as such are extremely valuable to leatherworkers and airship construction firms. During their mating season, people are advised to keep their distance from Netch harems, as the creatures get rather aggressive due to the influx of hormones in their bodies. Netch differ greatly in terms of appearance and capabilities according to their gender. Male Netch are known as Bull Netch, are much larger than their female counterparts, growing larger than full-grown horses. Bull Netch are poisonous, capable of delivering strong toxins through their tentacles. The female Netch, on the other hand, is known as the Betty Netch. Betty Netch are smaller than Bull Netch, but are often considered more dangerous, as they possess incredible strength in their tentacles, and are far more aggressive. During their mating season, Betty Netch keep a harem of two to three Bull Netches around it.[/ul]

O-P[/b] Pegasi are winged horses. These creatures are highly magical in nature, having been created through magical means. A pegasus looks like a standard horse and can come in many breeds, just like regular horses, but have massive feathered wings that extend from their shoulders. With the help of subtle magic, a pegasus can fly great distances with their wings, using the same physics a bird would. Pegasi can be domesticated like regular horses. However, due to their nature, they will shy away from combat of any kind, and therefore are useless to cavalry, who are more likely to use regular horses and wyverns instead. Pegasi are commonplace throughout most of the world, but cannot be found on Cyra, or on the various islands populating the oceans.[/ul]
