"HelloooooOOOOOOOOooooo." Echoed through the long and empty shafts of the abandoned mine. Pyra looked down the shaft she was in, it was dark, and she could hardly see five feet in front of her. Pyra didn't scare too easily, but right now she was on edge. Pyra had a hand up on her shoulder, holding it tightly as she wandered the abandoned mine. How long has she been in here anyway? It felt like foreeeeeeeeever. God!
"This all your fault, Brock." Pyra mumbled to her right boot, "I can't believe you convinced me to come in here." Pyra didn't like it here anymore. At first it was fun, but then she ran into that Dodango and it wasn't fun anymore. She lost it awhile ago, but she also lost herself. It was hours sense she last saw an exit, but it felt like days. Maybe she was gonna die in here? Maybe more Dodangos would come and eat her? Maybe- oh look! Something gleamed down the shaft some more. Pyra forgot her problems for a moment and ran.
"Wheee!" She yipped happily as she ran full speed down to the sparkling thing. Skidding to a stop, Pyra came to the object rather quickly. She was drawn to it like a moth to a flame, or rather a bug zapper.
"Oooooh." Pyra bent down and picked up the small object. It was rough and purple. It was about the size of a peanut but shined like a flame. Some sort of jewel Pyra concluded.
"Shiny." Pyra said happily and grinned. She began to walk, and she walked aimlessly, like she was on autopilot. Pyra's eyes remained on the small jewel however and she didn't watch where she was going. She turned it around, rubbed its rough sides, and watched it gleam in the darkness. Then suddenly she felt herself bump into something.
"Oof!" Pyra bumped hard into a overturned mine cart. The bump was so sudden that Pyra lost her grip on the jewel and it fell fell fell. Pyra leaned over the over turned cart and watched the shiny thing fall fall fall then disappear down cliff at the end of a mine track.
"Aww!" Pyra whined loudly and kicked the mine cart with Sandy, her left boot, "Stupid cart!" Pyra shouted then pouted as she turned an adjacent shaft. Something caught her eye again, and again, she forgot her problems and off she went full speed.
Nothing really did cheer her up more than pretty and shiny jewelery.

The Order convoy had come to a halt in the old, decrepit fort abandoned so long ago by the Empire. Out of the lead Humvee stepped Michael Saint, Knight-Commander of the Order. He currently wore his full plate-mail armor, his Broadsword Fidelis hanging in it's simple sheath across his back.
The large man glanced around as the other Order members set about making camp, they were mostly raw recruits to the order, with a few hardened veterans mixed in for security. He'd taken the convoy out to this barren place to teach the men survival skills, especially important if the soldiers were ever separated from their Order Convoy.
His greathelm he'd left in the Humvee, which sat quietly behind him, engine pinging and popping as it cooled. Something is odd about this place, he mused to himself, curiously glancing around the old fort.
And then he realized what it was, there were footprints in the dirt, leading down towards the abandoned mines. He knelt, examining the prints. They were small, like that of a child or small adult, and the owner of the prints seemed to have wandered aimlessly into the mines.
Michael frowned, the mines were no place for a child or reckless youth, even treasure seekers generally traveled in pairs at the least. He stood, nodding as he did so, it wouldn't hurt to check the nearest mines for the wanderer. Whoever it was might have gotten hurt and was trapped. Or it was completely possible that the person knew exactly what they were doing and was quite capable of looking out for his or her self.
However, Michael wasn't the type of man to simply ignore those prints. Not when someone could be in danger, his duty as a Knight-Commander of the Blade was to protect the citizens of Stamaria. No, he decided, he couldn't leave it be.
"Sergeant Adams," He called out loudly to one of the Veteran Order members. The thirty-something soldier dressed in the latest combat armor available turned and saluted, "yes, Knight-Commander?" The man questioned. Michael pointed towards the footprints, "It appears there may be a lost person in the mines, I'm going to check it out. I may have to spend the rest of the day and night in there, I shall return in the morning at the latest."
The Sergeant saluted, "Right sir, we'll get the old comm gear in the fort running if we can. If you need aid, find a communication line in the mines and try to contact us, we'll be in there right quick if something goes wrong."
Michael nodded to the Sergeant, the man had been with him for over seven years, transferring with him to the Order from the regular Stamarian Military. And Michael trusted him with his life, Adams kept his head and always thought in contingency plans. He grabbed a survival pack from inside the Humvee, checked to make sure Fidelis was secure on his back, and then headed down the sloping tunnel into the mines.

"Go aw- EEEEEEE!" Fire blasted around Pyra as she ran down the mine. She got the attention of a pair of giant dodongos, maybe the mommy and daddy of the baby that she was playing with. Guess they didn't like Pyra playing with her. Some parents are so mean! Especially when they're trying to turn you into dinner with their fire breath! Pyra continued to run down the mine. Her hands were over her head as the two monsters continued to blow fire her way. She came to a cross road and turned to the left. The was screaming the entire way and even crying a bit. Pyra was scared, very scared.
"Go away!" Pyra screamed again as she heard the beasts follow. Then she came to a stop. Before her was a large wall of fallen rocks and rubble. Oh no, no, no, no. Pyra looked around, for a way out any way out. Finally she had an idea. Pyra turned around, she couldn't see them, but she could hear them coming fast enough. She had no choice but to hide. Pyra ducked under a mine cart and pulled it over her. It came down with a slam, but Pyro hoped they hadn't seen or heard exactly what that slam might be. She waited.
Things were quiet for a few moments. Pyra could only hear her frantic panting under the cart. She cried and breathed, trying to control the amount of noise she made. Pyra was scared and she was afraid she was going to die. They would find her and eat her. No, she couldn't let that happen, she had to be quiet. So she stopped crying for now. She then felt a small tremble, it grew, they were getting closer. The ground quaked and Pyra sat, trying not to cry again. Then everything stopped. Maybe they were gone...she lifted the cart.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!" The cart was pushed against the wall, exposing Pyra to the two creatures who now loomed over her. They looked down at her, growling and drooling. Pyra sat, with her hands over her head. She did the last thing she knew she could do, the only thing she thought she could do.
"HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!!!!!!!"

Michael had been searching for almost two hours now, following the haphazard tracks of the unknown adventurer through the winding mines. And still, no sign of whoever had left the tracks.
He halted, flashlight focusing on an area in the dirt and rock that seemed different than the others. It appeared the adventurer had run into a pair of creatures, the scorch marks upon the walls told of how that meeting had ended.
Michael's pace quickened, as did the tracks he followed. The creatures had chased the adventurer through the tunnels. He continued on the trail for a short time before hearing the scream,
"HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!!!!!!!" The voice cried desperately. Michael ran for the sound, surging past overturned mining carts and long-abandoned rails. Finally he came to a crossroad, heat radiated from one of the paths, he switched off the flashlight and ran swiftly down the obvious path, praying he wasn't too late.
A moment later he passed round a bend in the tunnel and came upon a dead end. A young girl sitting upon the ground near the tunnel-end, and two foul creatures looming over her.
Knowing he had little time, and not wishing to harm the girl. Michael resisted calling forth the holy fire that Fidelis commanded. Instead he brought the blade up in one swift movement, and then let it fall with furious strength upon the nearest of the creatures. Easily cleaving a large gash in the fiend's back. With a little luck, the blow also severed it's spine, He thought even as he wrenched the blade free and turned to face the other creature.
This one had turned from the girl to the more obvious threat, and had opened its gaping maw to do something that Michael felt sure wouldn't be good. He'd seen the scorch-marks along the walls, and felt the heat. Most likely these things breathed fire, and while his armor was well-crafted he was still lacking his greathelm.
He saw a spark ignite in the creature's mouth and did the only thing he could think of, having little room to maneuver. With a cry he plunged Fidelis into the monster's mouth, even as its breath turned to fire, the heat rolling forward like a wave.
A moment later, the creature fell dead, Fidelis lodged in it's throat. Michael groaned in pain, his armored glove had kept the skin reasonably intact, but it felt like his arm had been plunged into a lake of acid. Grimacing, he turned back towards the girl, his left arm hanging limply.
With his good arm he reached out, "Come child, the fiends are dispatched. You have nothing to fear."

As the two creatures began their finally assault on poor little Pyra, the flash of a blade caught the girl's eye. Then suddenly one of the beasts fell, collapsing on its two legs. Creepily enough, Pyra thought she saw it blink once or twice as it laid, crippled by the knight's quick blade. Pyra's eyes, though blurred by her crying, was able to catch the knight himself. She stopped her crying when she saw how quickly he acted, and all to save her. He must've been a dream. Pyra watched as the knight's quick thinking then fell the next beast with a thrust down its throat. Talk about heart burn. Pyra wiped her eyes when she saw it was dead as well.
"Come child, the fiends are dispatched. You have nothing to fear."
Pyra looked up at the knight for only a brief moment before then suddenly erupting into tears again. She dived up against his stomach, hugging him as tightly as possible while letting it allllllllll out. Pyra did find it hard to hug him as securely as she could, with him being so big and all. Still she tried and wasn't shy about burying her face into his chest armor.
"Th-thank you sooooooooooo m-m-much!" Pyra said as she tried to calm herself down. It was interrupted when she noticed one of her arms getting particularly hot against his. She jumped back with a small yelp. Her arm had turned red, but nothing more. She took a closer look at his arm and saw how limply it hanged. Perhaps it wasn't too bad, but Pyra could help! Pyra stopped crying immediately as she then beamed a smile as the remaining tears dripped off her face.
"I can help!" Pyra announced giddily as she then put her hands over that particular arm, "Hold still." Pyra then ordered and they glowed. A bright blue aura surrounded the girl's palms as they hovered over the knight's arm like a statue. His arm would have a small sensation running through it. It would cool off, any soreness he would attain from the heat would die off and even the scars over his skin would fade slightly.
"All better!" Pyra then stated when she assumed she was done. It was hard to tell because of the armor, but she was pretty sure she was right. Sandy agreed.

Michael grunted as the girl slammed into his chest. Wincing in pain as she inadvertently brushed against his burnt arm. And then she was babbling, something about his arm and how she could help.
He was about to protest whatever it was the girl was proposing when an odd blue light radiated from her palms and the pain in his burnt arm lessened. A few moments later, he could actually feel his fingers again.
Michael stared with wonder at the girl, flexing his arm in amazement. His chocolate brown eyes focused on her, "Thank you, young lady." He said sincerely. Now that she was safe and the monster's dispatched, Michael had time to think. He knelt so as to bring himself to her eye-level, "Are you hurt?" He asked cautiously, flicking on his flashlight and guiding it over her body to check for wounds. Reasonably sure she hadn't suffered grievous harm, he dipped Fidelis down and cleaned the holy blade in the dirt at their feet. And then stood and sheathed the Broadsword, listening for the sound of any other nearby creatures or dangers. He couldn't hear anything, but that might not mean much, depending on what was down here with them.
For now he had to focus on getting the girl to safety, which meant retracing his steps and getting back to his men as soon as possible.

"Hurt? No, I'm fine. I was scared though, 'cause they blew fire at me and chased me and wanted to eat me!" Pyra's voice raised as she spoke, getting louder and higher with each terrible thing that passed from her mouth. She didn't seem to care that she was being so loud, she was still very shaken from the experience. Pyra then took in a shaky breath as the knight tended to his sword. Her body shook from all the excitement, and she wanted more than ever to leave now. Forget the shinys, she just wanted to leave. Leave and never come back. She wanted to get away from those mean, mean, MEAN, lizards. For a moment, Pyra wondered why they were so mean. Maybe they needed to be milked? Or maybe because Pyra woke them up, form a nap? Or maybe they just didn't like people? Pyra's thoughts ran off faster than she did from the dragon like creatures. Then she snapped back.
"Are you a knight?" Pyra asked suddenly, "'Cause Brock says you are and I should trust you." Pyra then added, but made no effort to indicate who Brock was. She just assumed the knight would know and maybe even say hi to Brock and Sandy. Knights were really nice, Brock said, and they defended people. Except for the evil ones though, they hurt people and were really really bad. Pyra shouldn't hang around the bad knights, but this guy seemed good so it was ok. He saved Pyra right? So he must be a good knight. A bad knight would just laugh at Pyra as she cried and was eaten by the dodangos. No, this knight was nice and saved her. He was a good guy.

Michael smiled uncertainly, "Brock?" He questioned hesitantly. Glancing around for another child in the gloom. Finally, unsure of how to proceed, he spoke gently, his voice reassuring. "Yes child, I am a Knight of the Blade, a military order bound by oath to Stamaria. My name is Michael, Michael Saint. I saw your tracks leading down into the mines and came to investigate, did you come down with any others? Is Brock another child down here in the mines?"
Michael glanced around ago, scanning the area warily. it seemed safe to stay for now, no sounds coming from the tunnel behind them. But to be safe, he turned and placed his back against he wall, offering him a good vantage from which to look down on the girl and keep one eye on the tunnel for intruders. If there truly was another child down here, he'd prefer to call down a few members of the Order to help search for the other missing child.

"Nooooo, silly," Pyra giggled then lifted her right boot, "this is Brock, and this is Sandy!" Pyra then held up her left boot, "Say hi guys!" No noise came from the boots, but Pyra could hear them clear as day in her own world. They introduced themselves politely to the knight, Sandy even complimented on the knight's attire, saying it went well with his eyes. Despite what the knight would say next, in Pyra's head she'd also hear him thanking Sandy for the compliment. Anyway onto the matter at hand. This silly knight thought Brock was some kid, he made Pyra laugh, so Pyra liked him. What'd he say his name was again? Matt? Mark? Mich? Bob? Oh well.
"Anyway, my name is Ashley, Mr. Knight," Pyra was content with calling him that, "but my friends call me Pyra, and I like you Mr. Knight so you can call me Pyra if you want." Pyra then looked down at her boots for a second, "Yeah, ok I'll ask him!" Pyra said down to her boots, with the same enthusiastic attitude she was known for.
"Mr. Knight, do you know the way out of here? Me, Brock, and Sandy are lost. All those monsters chased us, and then we found some cool jewels!" Pyra reminisced on the pretty and shiny jewels, her eyes lighting up as she saw them once again in her mind, "But then those big guys chased us and then you found us! So...do you know how to get out?" Pyra began to bounce a bit on her toes, her heels going up and down rapidly.

Michael froze for a moment, taking in what the girl was saying. It wasn't the oddest thing he'd heard in his lifetime, not close. But still, the girl named her boots? Thinking quickly, Michael bowed low. "It is an honor to meet such fine boots as Brock and Sandy." He said, straightening. "I imagine you and they have had many fine adventures in your time together."
Best to play along, He thought. Keep the girl calm and get her out of the mines.
He held out his hand, "But yes, Pyra. I do know the way out of these mines. It will be at least an hour's walk, but we will get there. Are you ready?"
In the background he heard some sort of creature howl forlornly. It wasn't a pleasant sound, and didn't bode well for them if they stayed there. "I suggest we make haste, Pyra. Some of these creatures may be more dangerous than those fire-breathers."

Pyra listened as the creatures in the distance gave out their fearsome calls. It was either because they were cranky, or because they knew where Pyra and Mr. Knight was. She shook a bit in fright, her bouncing stopped dead and her arms crossed protectively into a defensive hug. She felt much safer with Mr. Knight, but not entirely safe. She wanted to go and she wanted to go now. In a childish way, Pyra hoped that Mr. Knight would just blow a hole into the ceiling of the mine and fly them out before any of the bad monsters ate them up. She could imagine Mr. Knight just lifting a hand and BOOP the ceiling would disappear and off they'd go. On the way Pyra would blow raspberries at the monsters below as they shook their fists in rage.
"Ok, let's go." Pyra said timidly as she crept up close to Mr. Knight. He stood as close as she could to him, as a shield of armor and blade. Sandy and Brock told her over and over again that he'd protect her, but that didn't help as much as they hoped. Pyra wanted to just run, but she couldn't leave Mr. Knight. What if she ran into something during her sprint down the shafts? She'd be gobbled up before you could say "gobbildy doo" and then no one would know what happened to poor little Pyra. She'd never see her daddy again or ever meet her mother. But she didn't, she stood right still, right next to Mr. Knight.

Michael beamed a smile downwards at the girl, not letting any of his anxious thoughts show upon his face. He flicked the flashlight around the tunnel with one hand, searching for anything out of the ordinary before they left. He grasped one of her hands in his and then began gently retracing his steps in the dirt, eyes wary for any signs of danger.
Intent on keeping her mind off the dangers around, he began to speak, his voice low and calming.
"So, where did you meet Brock and Sandy?"

Pyra's eyes glanced around the darkness intent of seeing anything, anything at all in the darkness. The growls that echoed through the dark were few and far between, but somewhat jarring when they did occur. As Pyra walked with Mr. Knight the noises began to lessen and quiet. Perhaps they were getting away? They weren't moving very fast, but the idea of getting away did make Pyra breathe a bit easier. She walked with a more looseness and security as the noises lessened. Pyra's eyes wandered and stood behind Mr. Knight and her self as they wandered the spooky mines. However, Mr. Knight's question caught her off guard and startled the girl.
"Uhh..." Pyra sounded in a very confused manner as she tried to reclaim her mind and collect the pieces of Mr. Knight's question, "We met..." Pyra then looked up to the mine's ceiling as if expecting an answer to drop from there and into her brain, "Oh yeah! Brock and Sandy were some presents from Daddy on my birthday. He also got me some balloons and a new backpack and a belt and shirts and a new flashlight, which I broke that day when I went exploring the well in our backyard." Pyra's mouth went off like a machine gun as she spoke, and as she did the volume of her voice increased to the point a hyper and excited child talking to their parent's about their first day of kindergarten. A sudden growl from the depth of the mine reminded Pyra of just how much danger they were still in.

Michael led the young girl slowly forward in the darkness, listening with one ear to her startling-fast chatter while with his other ear he tried to keep track of the surrounding creatures. He kept quiet as she continued her story, though her voice grew louder with every word. It was little use to stop her, and it helped keep her occupied. It made little difference anyway, he had already detected at least three creatures following them in the darkness, most likely more of the two-legged firebreathers they'd encountered earlier.
He contemplated his actions for a few precious seconds, Pyra's chatter drowning out everything else. This girl...she was innocent, and it was his sworn duty as a Knight-Commander of the Blade to protect her, no matter the danger to himself. But he couldn't keep fending off these fire-breathers, not without support. He nodded his head, the move unseen in the darkness. A definitive action was needed to buy time.
Michael slowed, "Pyra, cover your eyes for a moment. It's going to get very bright."
In one swift, deadly motion he spun and raised his blade into the air, whispering a prayer as he did so. Light flooded the tunnel, revealing a very startled Dodango in the light, standing a few feet behind Michael and his charge. The creature's surprised expression stayed in place even after the flaming Fidelis had separated the head from the shoulders of the creature.
Not slowing down in the slightest, Michael surged forward, finding the second creature and assaulting it as well, bringing it down with one flaming stroke. He spun, searching for the third creature, hoping fervently that Pyra had done as he asked.

"Mr. Knight?" Pyra asked quizzically in such low tone that most likely he didn't even hear. Just like that Mr. Knight was off and running. Pyra watched as he seemingly abandoned the poor girl alone in the darkness. Yet it wasn't darkness, at least for a moment. Mr. Knight rose his sword and a flash of light flooded into Pyra's eyes. She was far too confused and curious to take real notice of Mr. Knight's warning and just like that Pyra's vision became nothing but a white void. On instinct Pyra closed her eyes and reeled back, but that lasted for only a moment. She opened her eyes again and that white void remained.
Pyra made no noise at first. It didn't quite hit her that she was blinded and that the dodangos were so close.
"Mr. Knight?" Pyra whimpered again as the horrible realization of blindness occurred to her. She began to scream and swing her arms around, flailing for something, anything of comfort until the blindness pasted. Pyra wasn't able to find anything so she ran, she ran to where she thought she saw Mr. Knight last. In almost a blur, Pyra ran past Mr. Knight and further into the cave. She heard a small splash as she stepped into a pool of the dragon's blood. This sound only fueled her to run faster.
"Mr. Knight, where are you?!" Pyra cried into the darkness, "Mr. Kni- oof!" Pyra felt something firm and leathery hit her in the head and down she went. Pyra's head sang and her ears rang. She felt a very big owie on her left shoulder and small poking rocks in her legs. She coughed as the dodongo came closer to the hurt girl. Pyra's vision came back enough for her to see the large green leg of the creature as it stepped closer.
