It was a calm and peaceful day. The water brushing lightly against the shores of the sandy beaches, children at play, adults mingling, whatever you might expect a nice little place to have. All around there are fruit trees, boats, docks, the works.
The Island was very plain in nature. The forests were small, the animals weren't too much of a threat, it was nice. Alot of free land, but nice. On the outer edges of the isle, however, were a set of caves. The locals knew alot, and yet very little about them.
Leaning up against his home was Jay. Sitting back and enjoying the nice weather. He was soon approached by a man who seemed a few years older than he was, looking gruffer, with dark hair and a bo-stave strapped to his back.
"So, you thinkin' about tacklin' those caves Jay?" the man asked in a sort of teasing tone. "Ah, shut up Hector." Jay replied with a mumble, then looking upwards. Hector mearly laughed, then spoke. "They say we're gettin' some new customers today."
Hector let out a deep sigh. "But eh, probably just here to give us a delivery order, like always." Jay just shrugged for his response. "Anyways that ain't what I'm here about. How about a sparring match? Don't want my skills to wane, ya know."

With the sun shining overhead in a cloudless sky, the waters surrounding Lideria Island were as blue as they could be. A light breeze blew out over the isle and out to sea, sweeping about and drawing in the incoming ship. The smell of fish permeated everywhere, but that in itself was no surprise. Most island communities needed fish to survive and prosper, and this one would be no different.
Darrick Larown knew about as much of Lideria as everyone else. His boots made a hard clunking sound on the wood as he stepped out on the deck of the fishing trawler. He made sure to keep out of the crew's way; he'd already spent a good deal of coin to convince their captain to let him come along for the ride when they returned to Lideria, it wouldn't do to irritate the rest of the men into throwing him off the boat before they even arrived.
From here he could just barely make out his real goal for coming here, the cavern system at the far end of the island. He too knew that the locals knew little about the island. Hell, the best he'd probably get would a local to act as a tour guide on the way there. He'd have to tackle the caves himself.

"Speak of the devil."
Out of the corner of their eyes, the two men saw the ship dock, and a man who seemed to be pretty decked out in gear.
"Should we go say hi?" Hector asked. Jay simply groaned. "Why bother?" he let out. "They're probably here to by some some trinkets, then hear a creature growl and run away like so many others." "No reason we can't have fun with it." Hector reassured.
"Let's just ignore him. He probably won't be important anyway." Jay replied with a dull tone. "Killjoy." and with that, Hector waved goodbye and ran in another direction. He presumably had stuff to do. Meanwhile, Jay continued to glance over everything in his view, as usual per his schedule.

Darrick was quick to leave the trawler when it made port, eager to get things started. As his boots hit the dock, he looked up, shielding his good eye from the sun before turning his gaze to the port town. It proved to be somewhat small, probably a community that was relatively isolated from major communities, probably something that only stayed in contact with a few of the other nearby island communities.
He shrugged and rolled his shoulders a bit, the sun being hot here, and he was still wearing his coat. It wasn't too bad, though. Nothing like Galsia and the surrounding desert. And a little discomfort could be good for someone. Now, where could he get some help?
His trip took him through the streets, his eye looking for prospective men and women who looked like they could help. He also stopped to look at some trinkets and souvenirs hawkers were selling as he thought Cari might like, but ultimately purchased nothing. Soon he was at the edge of the town, and it was there where he spotted a young man with blondish-looking hair and wearing colorful islander clothing. He didn't look like he was doing anything at all, which suited Darrick's needs well enough.
He meandered over to the man and knocked on the wall of the building the teenager was leaning against. "You look like a man who needs something to do," he greeted. "Interested in making some coin and helping an old man out?"

The teen looked up as though he'd just been woken from a nap. Oh, it was the guy from the boat. Just his luck. "If you need help crossing the street, you can buy a cane a couple houses down." Snark aside, the boy stood up and adjusted his head a bit. This man he'd started a converstion with was different from the other tourists somehow. "Anything else you want?"

Darrick barked a laugh. The kid's got spunk, at least. "Funny, kid," he replied. He flipped a heavy gold coin forward at him with a flick of his thumb. "I'd like someone to show me the way to the caverns on the far side of Lideria. Twenty more of those are in it for you if you're interested."

Blondie snatched the coin out of the air and stuffed it away... somewhere(don't ask). With a small sigh, he took a couple steps forward. "Alright, let's get going then." It was that simple. Sides, the boy figured this new guy would be just like the rest. Tourist sees caves, tourist runs off screaming and never returning again. Simple business.

Darrick grinned and nodded, knowing that he had once again picked a good one. Though this kid seemed to be none to thrilled with the job, he had a feeling that would change. "Well then, after you, kid," he said, gesturing.

And so, Jay began to walk ever so slowly toward the caverns.

"You don't seem really thrilled with the prospect of making some decent cash," Darrick noted as they walked. "Had to do this before?"

"That'd ruin the surprise." Jay couldn't help but smirk a bit as he said this. Repetative or not, the unique reactions of each visitor was atleast something to enjoy. "So what else brings you here stranger?" While not one for small talk, it wasn't like there was anything else to do while they made the treck. Except maybe stare at trees.

"Just went looking to see some interesting things, that's all," Darrick said with a grin. He laced his hands together behind his head. "I figured Lideria's mysterious caves would be a good enough place to start."

"Hmph." That was basically all the boy let out in response. He wasn't sure why the caves were so shrouded in mystery nowadays anyway. Hadn't they been mostly explored by the locals? Granted, there were a few paths left alone, but that was more due to... outer factors. After a good while, they were reletively close to their destination. "Get ready tourist. We're close."

"Oh, I'm ready, kid," Darrick replied. He could see the cliffside housing them up ahead, over the sparse foliage. "Tell me, why do people find these caverns so fascinating, anyway?"

"I suppose people just love the air of mystery, so to speak. I'll admit to peaking inside these caverns when I was younger." ...Why was he telling this man such things? Bah. Regardless, he continued talking. "Besides, not like our island is exactly popular. We've been lucky enough to avoid the war so far." Jay knew the last saying was just begging for bad karma, and yet it was true that Lideria wasn't exactly a mountain of resources.
