"Not a bad stance," Darrick said, nodding thoughtfully. "I doubt Lideria has to worry about getting involved, so you're safe. Kinda like I am from where I'm from."
He let out a laugh at that.

"At any rate, we're here." As if in no time at all, the two were indeed at the entrance to the caverns. Inside, drips of water could be heard echoing through the walls, and very little light shined from within. "If you're brave enough, 'hero.'" The teen crossed his arms and leaned against the outer wall. "No hard feelings if you wanna turn back."

Darrick let off a low whistle as he peered into the entrance of the cavern system. "Been a while since I've seen one as dark as this, most've the ones back in Galsia've already been plumbed."
His nose prickled, however, as some weird stench, faint as it was, became apparent to him. "And it seems like something's made this its home, from the smell of it."
He leaned back on his heel and reached into his coat, which was keeping his weaponry hidden from view, and pulled out a small, heavy sack of gold coins. "Here you go, lad," he handed it to the teenager with a nod. "If you have nothing else to do, though, you're welcome to tag along with me. Company makes up half the fun of little adventures like this."
He gave the cavern a sidelong glance. "Hell, maybe you know whatever the hell it is that's moved in."

Jay happily accepted the gold and stuffed it all... somewhere(again, don't ask). Something this stranger said grabbed his interest a little, however. "Made its home? What are you talking about?" The most dangerous thing in the caves were blue dragons. And they--Wait, now the teen noticed the faint stench as well. What was this?

"Judging by the face you just made, kid, I'd say you don't recognize it either," Darrick said. He nodded to himself and then opened up his coat, grabbing the sheathed axe and his distinctive whip from within it to put onto the loops of his belt.
"Go break off a couple branches so we have some torches," he instructed. "Looks like this trip might be more exciting that I originally thought."

"Tch." Despite the order, the guy had to admit that now, he had no choice but to investigate. The locals would want to hear about this, even if it was looked down upon for sneaking around inside. Taking a few steps in the opposite direction, he soon made a swift motion with his arm, form a thin, concentraited stream of water to cut down a few branches. Picking them up, he walked back. "Got a light?" the boy aksed in a semi-joking tone.

Darrick smirked at the show of ability by the teenager. "Not bad, kid," he complimented while fishing his lighter out of one of his pockets. A couple spare rags doused in an oil potion later, and he had fashioned a pair of torches for the two of them. "That water magic of your's should come in handy if we find something really nasty in here."

"Tch. It's all they ever let me do..." Jay mumbled to himself. Snapping out of it, he asked "Well then, shall we go?" Whoever this man was, he seemed prepared, atleast. If things got too intense, they could always run for it.

Using the lighter, Darrick lit both of their torches and proceeded into the depths of Lideria's cavern system. Luckily for them, the smell was still faint, but he knew it'd grow stronger as they came closer to its source. Inside, their footsteps echoed down the walls, along with the steady dripping of the water that likely fashioned these caverns in the first place.
"This place sure is big," Darrick commented, his voice bouncing down the walls a bit. Grunting, he lowered it somewhat so as not to alert whatever they were tracking. "Almost like it's a weyr, but there's no sign of any dragons in here."

Almost as if on cue, a few roars could be heard echoing through the tunnels.
"Seems you need to learn to control you mouth a bit." They weren't too deep in yet, and the beasts weren't all that close, but it was usually this part where people started running.
"So, still feeling brave, Whip Guy?" Which reminded him, the two hadn't even exchanged names yet. T'was probably best to keep it that way. "We could always turn back and ask for help, you know." Infact this was probably a smart idea, although...

"I've yet to have been chased off by a dragon and I don't plan on starting now," Darrick said confidently. He looked about, sniffing at the air occasionally, and then altered his course. "This way. It's coming stronger in this direction."

Jay knew the direction they were going in now, and he didn't exactly like it. The deeper the two went, the more small pools of water could be found, reflecting light onto the walls. Mice scurried here and there, but dissapeared almost as quickly as they came. "I've got a bad feeling..." he didn't know what brought it about, but he could sense... something as they moved forward.

Darrick suddenly halted when his boot made a squishing noise underfoot. Looking down, he lifted his foot from the stone floor, feeling a bit of resistance as some sticky substance clung to the bottom of it.
"Hold up, kid," he said, lifting his free hand to motion to him. He knelt down and examined the sticky fluid on the ground. In the light, it looked a sickly yellow-brown color. He swiped up a bit of it with his hands, rubbing it between a couple fingers and lifting it up to take a whiff. He blanched at the smell, which was the same as the stench from before, only stronger.
Darrick wiped his hand off on a rag, grunting. "Tell me, have there been any strange deaths in Lideria lately? Grisly murders and the like?" he asked.

Well that was random. The teen rubbed his chin for a bit in thought. "Hmm. I guess maybe one or two. We gave them a burial at sea a while back." Holding his torch out and glancing around a bit, he had to wonder. "Does this... gunk, have anything to do with it, ya think?" That would mean the few who'd died a while back had broken the rules and came down here. Maybe they'd had a taste. Jay chuckled to himself a bit at the dark thought.

"Yeah, I have an idea what it is now," Darrick replied. He no longer sounded amused or jovial, and he was frowning in thought. "You ever heard of something called a Reaper, kid?"
