Darrick's arm suddenly shot up, barring the teenager from further entry. Remaining silent, he pointed to the biggest gathering of filth in the chamber, and then pointed directly above it. Hanging from the ceiling was a fleshy, pod-like cocoon that occasionally shuddered and pulsed with movement. "There it is," he said quietly. "Waiting for us to get near it."

Yuck.
"So how do we get rid of it?" he whispered. It might come down to using some of the waters in here, and the local certainly hoped not. Very conflicted feelings in that area.
Still, what was a Reaper doing in a cocoon? That just had bad news written all over it.

"If you can make some water attack that can knock it back, use it when you see it," Darrick said. "Just stand back. I'll lure it out in the open first. Just don't get near it."
The older man stepped forward, into the chamber and towards the pulsating cocoon hanging from the ceiling. As he did, he unslung his whip from his side, getting ready for what he knew to be a nasty fight.
It wasn't long before he reached the proximity of the cocoon, and the Reaper laying within knew it--with a wet, tearing sound that scattered more of the filth on the floor, the cocoon ripped open and the hulking body of the Reaper dropped to the floor with a heavy thud, landing on its clawed legs. It stood up and attacked with more agility than belied its awkward frame, and swung out at Darrick with sharp claws. The man jumped back with a startled yell, narrowly avoiding getting skewered.

A torch went flying through the air and knocked the overgrown bug on the head. The thing was even uglier than Jay had imagined. Although the torch was useless in this room, tossing it at the giant man-eating bug might not've been the best idea. Jumping off the higher ground into the shawllow pool of water, the teen made a couple swift motions with his limbs, launching sharp icicles at his new foe's' legs.

The Reaper screeched as the torch collided with its decidedly small head, and it swung about with its claws as it turned to the kid, forcing Darrick back further. One of its legs wobbled as the icicles struck, but the chitinous exoskeleton kept it protected, and it chittered as it approached.
"The arms, kid!" Darrick shouted. "Forget about the legs and cut off its arms!"
As if to demonstrate his point, the elder man swung his whip around and snapped it forward, the connected blades at its end shearing through a joint in one of its right arms and sending it clattering to the ground. The Reaper screeched in pain at the attack, but it didn't turn back to Darrick.

"Well make up your mind old man!" the boy called back. Flipping his body forward a bit, a thin wave of razor sharp water rushed forward at the insects other arm. Whether it connected or not wasn't his main concern, however, as right after he made a run for it, manipulating the water under his feet so it wasn't in the way. He had to stand between the beast and the alter, otherwise something very bad would happen eventually.

The water blade flashed through the joints, taking two of the Reaper's arms off and causing it to screech once more in pain. Snarling, the insectile beast suddenly gushed from various sacks on its body, covering it in a foul-looking miasma of gases and obscuring its body as it shambled forward, all the while regenerating its lost limbs.

No.
HELL no!
Jay wasn't gonna have this disgusting thing make its home here any more. Manipulating the water beneath the creature, it soon covered the entire body before freezing solid. A chunk of the water beneath everyone had been used up now, but hopefully it'd be worth it.
"Hey Whip Guy, if you got any more tricks up your sleeve, now might be a good time to use them."

Darrick needed no further encouragement. His hand darted inside his coat and pulled out a large bottle of a glowing fluid and chucked it as hard as he could at the ice, and hoped that whatever the kid did, he managed to freeze within the tissue and exoskeleton of the Reaper in some locations.
The bottle smashed open on the frozen surfaces of the Reaper, and the kinetic energies of the throw sparked a chain reaction in the potion, causing it to explode violently. Ice burst apart and the freed Reaper screeched as part of its exoskeleton cracked open, leaving its soft insides vulnerable to attack.

Wasting no time, Jay made swift, cutting motions with his arms, launching various sharpened icicles at the innards of the Reaper. Atleast half of them would probably make a direct hit, but yet again this wasn't the teen's' main concern. He instead put more distance away from the Reaper and got himself closer to the altar in the back of the room.

The injured Reaper made a screech each time one of the icy projectiles struck its open wound, and was soon shuddering in too much pain to try and get up and attack. Darrick darted over as the barrage ended, kicking the creature over onto its back before smashing his boot down on its head, crushing it underfoot. The mutant insect shuddered, its remaining limbs flailing, before it abruptly stilled, dying.
"Well, that was unpleasant," the man remarked, stepping back from the Reaper corpse.

"Good, it was just out of reach." The islander was talking to himself at this time as he stared down into a secret compartment in the altar. He also looked up at the roof, inwhich a hole aimed towards the skies could be spotted. That might've been a way the Reaper had gotten in in the first place. "This room is the very heart of our island, if that thing'd been left alone too long..."

"I'd be more worried about how one of these things got on the island in the first place," Darrick remarked. "They aren't native to these parts."
He reached down and grabbed the corpse by a forearm joint and by a flap of exoskeleton. "C'mere and help me move this thing, you don't need it polluting the water in here."

Ew. But, regardless, he helped out. After a bit of a trip the two had finally managed to shove the thing out the way they'd came in. Now the only question was... "Any idea how to clean up all the gunk it left inside?" There was also the question of explaining this to the locals, but that'd have to come later.

"Just a lot of scrubbing," Darrick chuckled, clapping a hand on the kid's shoulder. "Let's go tell your people what happened. We'll see if we can prevent something like this happening again."
