"Of course. You two had best sneak out however you can. I can atleast keep my crew under control."
Well, the captain didn't have to tell Jay twice. Seeing as there was nowhere to run, he simply out to the top of the boat, and saw a small crowd gathered nearby. Strangely, they didn't seem all that armed. Maybe if Jay moved very slowly, they wouldn't notice him. Yes, completely.

Fate, however, conspired against him--Darrick made no such deliberations to keep himself inconspicuous, and exited onto the deck of the ship just after Jay did.

"Son of a-"
"We're not here for a fight."
That new voice was rather familiar. Why, it was Jay's' old associate, Hector. Jay moved down to the shoreline. "What're you doing here, Hector?"
"I've some bad news." the youth replied flatly. "Let's just say you and your new pal there sparked some controversy. It's best you both leave for awhile."
"So you're banishing us." Jay was not amused.
"Hey, you two are free to stay if you feel like fighting off atleast twenty over water mages. With no help from us, of course." Hector put a handon Jay's' shoulder. "Look, we managed to secure one of our smaller and less used ships just down the port. We can hold off the rowdier residents and take the blame for you two escaping. It won't be easy to convince them not to demonize you, but we'll be doing all we can. We even packed some food and drink for you guys."
"And you're just willing to send me off with a total stranger?"
"Hey, you're free to split from him as soon as your boat docks where-ever. Would be nice to have a partner though, right?"
Jay glanced back at Darrick. He wasn't sure about this, but Hector was no liar. There'd be nowhere to hide on the island. "So just when can I come back?"
"Anytime ya like. Just be careful when you do."

"Well, so much for this vacation," Darrick remarked with a shrug. Looking over the group, he could see that not a one of them were any older than his impromptu companion for the day. "I'm guessing you kids are the minority when it comes to Lideria's stance on hospitality."

Hector let out a mighty laugh. "I like him already." Jay still wasn't too sure, but at the moment, it seemed like the best option. The other kids in the crowd gained some lighthearted expressions, it was clear they'd taken care of the other sailors, somehow. "Alright." the teen caved. "But I'm coming back as soon as I can, you hear me. Don't touch my stuff."
"Heh. Alright. You'll be needed this then." Hector handed Jay a rod; Good quality too. "But this yours. You've had it as long as I can remember." Hector nodded. "It's yours now. Somethin' tells me you'll be needin' it."
The two exchanged a deep glance before Jay broke away "You all take care of yourselves!" he called before signalling to Darrick. They had a boat to catch.
The rest of the crowd waved goodbye as their common friend ran off.

Darrick followed after Jay at an easy pace, waving back at the teens that saw them off. The boat wasn't that far, so he wasn't worried about Jay getting too far ahead. It wasn't long before he caught up with him at the boat. "Well, this certainly wasn't how I saw myself spending today," he said as he glanced over the boat.

"Me neither. Seems like we'll be spending some time together." The vessel was nothing special, but it'd atleast be able to get them to someplace nearby. It was unfortunate, but there was no time for long goodbyes. In the distance, the crowd of teens could be seen running back to main square. "Well, I suppose we best be off."

Darrick quickly undid the mooring line, allowing their small vessel to get dragged out by the current. Disturbed by the sudden movement of the boat, a couple roosting seagulls took to the air with shrill cries.
Darrick turned and regarded the young teenager before him, and nodded once. He held out his hand to him. "The name's Darrick. Darrick Larown."

Jay was a slight bit hesitant at first, but gripped the man's' hand and shook it. "Jay. Jay Quills."

The handshake was a strong, firm one. Darrick grin. "Y'know, I think this is going to work out just fine."
