The Wind Temple
In the western plains of Kouchi are a large set of rolling grassy hills, undisturbed by civilization due to tough rock only a little way beneath the grass. For this reason very few trees can be found in this area, little rivers and fields of flowers dotting up the landscape, but with the hills and lack of resistance, the wind blows strong here, and at the top of the largest hill in the region rests the wind temple, built into the tough stone and immovable by the wind.
Rusted chimes dangle above the large staircases that lead into the temple, large broken statues ornamenting the walkways that lead to the inside, and between columns are gaps or fabric coverings, so that the wind can run through the temple naturally. On the inside the areas are open on the lower levels, not necessarily indoors even, and large ancient windmills still turn effortlessly from the consistent energy that course through them, powering the eternal mechanisms in the temple.
Unlike most of the temples to the gods, the wind temple goes upward and not further into the earth, and most of the inhabitants, dangerous or not, reside higher up, often waiting peacefully until an ignorant traveler crosses its path. The walkways become narrower, the rooms more enclosed, but the wind seems to be present no matter which way one goes. Higher yet, the path to gain distance between the floors and the ground becomes more dangerous. Wind tunnels and springs, narrow staircases on the outside of the temple in the wind that grows only stronger with height, and walls of ivy are the only ways up at some points, subtle messages to those there that the paths should be left alone, and the temple forgotten.
Voices carry through the temple with the wind. Whispers, soft remarks, and suggestions can all be heard in tiny fragments, giving warnings and thoughts, praising and scornful remarks. Legend has it that the temple holds the spirit of those who worshiped and served the goddess of wind long ago, now cursed to not be seen directly but only through their actions, and the dark intentions are always the more noticeable.
