YouTube's' First Feature Film
So... what to say about this one? I literally just got done watching it. For those who don't know, Life In A Day was a film project started by someone who wanted people to show what a day in life could be like for those living in our current generation. So yeah, a bunch of YouTube clips. It just reeks of bad news, right?
Well you'd be pretty current in that assumption. Wanna know how they start off the first half hour of this two hour movie? Advertising. Nothing but fucking bragging about how great the film is. I'm not kidding. And if you're anything like me, this does nothing but piss you off.
Then the thing finally starts off, and it has the balls to show you a bunch of outright disgusting footage for its opener. Child birth, drunken idiots, breast feeding, peaople going to the bathroom, and even animal murder! As well, you have tons of stuff about people taping themselves being criminals, packing heat, the works.
Granted there were a few heartwarming moments. For instance, a guy coming out of the closet to his grandma over the phone, and still being loved for who he is. However, it seems for each touching moment there's about six screwed up ones. And I mean really, do we want our generation characterized by YouTube?
But then, I got to thinking a bit. People go through various things each day. Both good and bad. And this film's' goal was to show a day in life, in general. If it had simply shown all sunshine and lolipops, it wouldn't be life, it'd be a lie. Reality can be harsh, such and such.
Perhaps I'm giving the film too much credit, but what it showed were things some people have to deal with in their lives. Not to mention, the editors actually put all of the submitted footage into a timeline, going from early morning to late at night. I'm sure this film was designed to play with your heartstrings.
Anyhow, one thing I can really get behind is the ending. The message I got was life has its ups and downs, and, sometimes, a day is simply average, with nothing notable to talk about. It left me in a rather somber and bittersweet mood, and I think that was the point.
However I will say this. To all the bible humpers in this film, fuck you. I don't need a preaching session. Me going to Hell is my own business, not yours. Overall, while not a six star film, the movie was definitely an interesting watch. I'm probably being a bit generous, but I'm gonna give it a 4/6.
