Mount Cantoi
The largest mountain on the continent of Kemei is the hellish volcano known as Mount Cantoi—situated just south of the heart of the continent, this active volcano is almost always spewing out smoke, lava, and ash. The constant activity of the mountain has turned its soil to a dead black color where its not coated by a fine layer of ash, and from a distance, Mount Cantoi looks like an awful black spike rising up into the air, streaked with angry gashes of red. Once, snowcapped Mount Cantoi had been dormant, and was abundant with vegetation and life. People gathered at its base, forming towns and villages that lived in harmony.
However, when the great calamity struck the Wood Temple and destroyed it, Mount Cantoi was changed, like much of the continent. It awoke and erupted with an untold fury, blasting magma and smoke miles into the air. The lava rained down from the mountain, consuming everything in its path. The towns within Mount Cantoi’s shadow had no warning of Mount Cantoi’s impending eruption, and were obliterated within hours—few survived. Now, Mount Cantoi seems to be a perfect picture of Hell on Ymaggion. The ruins of the old towns lie scattered about, their roofs collapsed and their walls toppled, and buried in ash. Often, rivers of lava can be seen cutting through them, preventing any more life from growing on the volcano’s slopes.
Dangerous creatures now live on the mountain, adapted to the harsh environment. Cliff Racers cut through the ash-filled skies, preying on whatever life they can find. Giants and Fire Giants patrol the slopes, and the dreaded Fireborn congregate around the lava, unharmed by its searing heat as they combat vicious Megademons. Even worse, the lava itself seems to have come alive, forming golems of rock and flame that wander the slopes, seeking and destroying anything that they find. The highest cliffs and the peak of Mount Cantoi are the homes of dragons, and various members of the Red and Black Dragonflights can be seen roosting, watching over the fire-blasted mountain.
