The man looked down at the diminutive Stamarian girl with a flat, ponderous look. "There's not going to be another town any time soon," he said. "Kemei can't really afford small settlements, lass, they tend to die in the heat, if the monsters and the undead don't get them first."
He looked up at the sand maggot he'd killed with his axe and held up his hand, causing the axe embedded in its carapace to burst into magical particles. In the same moment, the weapon appeared in his hand, and he slipped it through a loop on his belt before he accepted the antiseptic. "But you're right, we should get moving. There's probably about... five, six more sand maggots around, I reckon."

"Looks like we're getting into some sandy business. Dah-hahahaha.... bah." Jay was atleast managing to stay up on his feet this time, but man if he was tempted to guzzle one of the water tanks his partner made him carry. The shade from the cloud was helping a small bit, but that'd be sure to change since, from what he could gather, they were about to continue moving.

"The two of you should drink some water, then let's get moving," the elder of the three said. "Gonna be a long trip back to that sand maggot tunnel we were staying at."
From that landmark, it'd be easier to get back, at least.

She giggled slightly at Jay's comment, but quickly found herself frowning at the other man's words. "Why did you walk so far out this way if there's nowhere to reach and you're going to have to just walk all the way back?" It would be a shame if she already had to part ways with these people because they were working their way in the opposite direction. She had heard about the fortress that surrounded Pharos, and getting inside could be quite difficult without another Galsian. Finding these two was an extraordinary opportunity, and she wasn't ready to throw it away just yet. Regardless of where she ended up though, there really weren't any other options besides following them back to wherever they were staying for at least the evening. With some water and some good sleep, she reckoned she could just fly the rest of the way in the morning if she had to.

The man shrugged, and gestured to his companion. His much leaner countenance was a stark contrast to his own solid build. The heavy water tanks strapped to his back next to the supplies bag only added to the oddity. "Jay here needs to build up his strength if he wants to survive out here, so I've been showing him the ropes," he explained to the lass. "Plus I wanted to see if the ruins out here had anything in them, but they're already picked clean. So we're headed back... then we found you trying your best to lower our place on the food chain."

The girl gave an offhand shrug and offered the man a complacent smile, "I had a feeling I would be all right in the end. If you have a place to stay, though, then lead the way. I'd hate to see what roams this desert at night." She shivered a little, despite the heat, at the thought of this wasteland covered by a blanket of darkness. It was harsh enough even with the sun washing everything with its energy, but without that it would be barren indeed. She wasn't ready to give up on her plan to get to Galsia, but she also realized that this man was not ready to help at the moment. She would win him over yet.

"You're right," the bearded, one-eyed man said with a curt nod. His tone was almost nonchalant. "You wouldn't."

Riul frowned at the two men, still not particularly enthused with her situation. It was frustrating, to say the least, that she had come all this way and now would be backtracking. With the temperature already beginning to edge off as the day started to wane, the girl figured she probably could make the distance to Pharos before it become, once more, unbearable to travel in the frigid cold. She was sorely tempted to simply take flight right this moment, but a Galsian was too good to pass up. Feeling the heat of the sand even through her sandals, she wiggled her toes in anticipation for movement, "No time to waste, then!" She took a couple of steps in the direction the two men had come from, turning and waiting for them to stir and take up the trail.

The bearded man slapped Jay on the back to wake him up. It was going to be difficult teaching this islander not to get so damn lethargic in the heat. "C'mon, lad, time we got moving," he said as he stepped past, catching up and making his way past the light-haired Stamarian girl.

Being jolted awake by a sudden slap to the back wasn't exactly comfortable. Why did he put up with all this? Bah, better question that later when not in the middle of scorching desert. But really, going all the way back when they just came from... Ugh, whatever. And thus, slow as can be, the teen dragged himself in tow of the other two.

As they walked, the little fluff of cloud traveled with them, providing a limited amount of cover from the heat, which was already beginning to falter. Nevertheless, they walked for what seemed to be an eternity, and Riul finally decided to make another effort toward conversation as the sky began to change with the sunset, dusk coming soon, "How much farther, err..." She paused for a moment, realizing she had not even bothered to ask their names, "What can I call you two?"

"The name's Darrick Larown," the bearded man introduced with a smile. "My lanky friend here is Jay Quills."

Riul beamed back at both the man who spoke and his partner, "Well, I'm Riul, and I am quite happy to meet both of you. Company is always nice this far away from home." At the sight of the changing daylight, though, she prompted them to continue moving on.
After for what felt like an eternity longer, though indicated from the falling sun it was far from it, the group finally seemed to come to a halt. As Riul glanced around, she did not spot anything immediately that looked like cover, though she wondered if it had been hidden or camouflaged in some way, "Is this... is this it?" Darkness had almost fully set in, and she hoped it was the last place they would walk to. She had avoided doing magic in their company, and her feet were beginning to ache from it.

It was a crude, gaping hole in the sands, the dune scooping over to form a very large, roof-like structure for the tunnel. "This is it!" Darrick announced, stepping past the girl. "You and Jay take a load off your feet, I'll make sure nothing's crawled inside while we were gone."
He untethered his whip from his belt and strode forward, ducking into the cave and quickly disappearing into the inky blackness within.
