This thread is for an alphabetical listing of any demons you can possibly encounter in Ymaggion. If you wish for this list to be expanded, go suggest a creature in the Creature Suggestion thread. When the Primals first came from the chaos and gave rise to the world of Ymaggion, others would soon follow suit. As the Old Gods appeared and began to influence the actions of men, so too did beings of much darker origin. Creatures from darker worlds began to appear, tempting the sentients of the world and sowing chaos wherever they appeared. The demons and monsters appeared from the blackened depths of the world, forcing those who stood against them to take up arms with the light in order to vanquish them. Demons come in a variety of forms, and are known to have numerous capabilities that range from the obvious to the subtle. Mages have been known to form dangerous pacts with demons in order to wield their own not-inconsiderable power. Many ancient artifacts are demonic in origin, and have been thought to rival the power of the lost technologies hidden throughout Ymaggion.

A-B[/b] An Arch-Vile is a large, off-white demon with flaming claws, capable of summoning numerous lesser demons to aid it in battle. They are also powerful psychics and pyrokinetics, often attacking its prey by igniting fires beneath them and lashing out with a strong psychic blow that can send a person flying backwards. These psychic attacks cannot work if the Arch-Vile cannot see its intended victim. They only appear in dark, deep places of the world, such as large caves underneath the Peak. A few may even live deep within the Abandoned Mines. BalrogA Balrog is a tall, menacing being in the shape of a winged, horned man, having control of both fire and shadow. It can wield many weapons conjured up from flames, such as swords and whips. The Balrog induces great terror in friends and foes alike and can shroud itself in darkness and shadow and can only be defeated through the use of powerful light and water magic--nearing the beast with physical weapons can prove to be too dangerous. The only appear in the dark, deep places of the world, such as large caves underneath the Peak. A few may even live deep within the Abandoned Mines. They are large and really powerful creatures, but their size often restricts their ability to move, and thus oftentimes cannot come to the surface of the planet--a detail that many are extraordinarily grateful for.[/ul]

C-D[/b] Claw Vipers are large, serpentine demons with large, powerful arms ending in long, sharp claws, and a tail ending with a cruel bony spike. These snake-like demons, while they are not particularly tough, are incredibly strong attackers and are immune to ice magic. Claw Vipers also possess the ability produce a chilling effect through ice magic when they strike someone, freezing their bodies and making it difficult for them to move. Claw Vipers are found in desert areas, usually hiding and congregating in ruins. These demons have developed a kind of crude society among themselves, and worship forgotten Gods while performing unholy rites during the long hours of the night. CyberdemonA Cyberdemon is a colossal bipedal demon fused with advanced machinery, showing that the ancient demons have also evolved and adopted the ways of technology--and with their darker natures, they have taken the application of technology to horrific new reaches. These monsters tower over humans, and are armed with a powerful missile launcher grafted into one of their arms. Cyberdemons are so large that they are able to crush smaller enemies underfoot if they get too close, and are incredibly resilient to damage, both physical and magical in nature. Cyberdemons are usually found protecting Hellmouths, gateways from more chaotic dimensions to the mortal plane. The only disadvantage these monstrous opponents have are their relatively low mobility--because of this, they supplement themselves in battle with lesser demons, such as Imps and Doom Guard. Darkened BeastDarkened Beasts are lithe, humanoid demons that are covered in a shroud of darkness that cannot be removed or revealed with any light save the vile lights of their eyes. As such, no physical feature of a Darkened Beast has ever been seen. Darkened Beasts are incredibly fast and agile, and have a terrible strength. They fight like enraged berserkers, capable of emulating any kind of fighting style. They have been known to take weapons in battle, usually from the bodies of the enemies they have slain. Darkened Beasts usually reside in the deepest bowels of the earth, hiding in the shadows of deep caverns, but are often summoned as guardians by dark mages or Arch-Viles. Doom GuardDoom Guards are demons clad in black plate mail, with helmets crowned with four curving horns, shields emblazoned with large grinning skulls, and deadly bastard swords in their hands. Doom Guards are trained as hellish footsoldiers for battle, and are masters with any kind of weapon. They typically use demonic bastard swords in battle, but if disarmed, they will find and use other weapons available to them. Their black armor is enchanted, and often difficult to pierce with normal weaponry. Doom Guards are often found in underground places or corrupted fortresses, and are never found alone, often fighting alongside Imps and Megademons. No one knows what a Doom Guard looks like without its armor--when slain, a Doom Guard's body disintegrates in a bloom of fire, leaving only a pile of charred armor and ash behind.[/ul]

G-H[/b] A Gargoyle is a strong, humanoid demon with wings that take the form of statues in daylight, only active at night. Gargoyles are capable of flight and are extremely agile. As such, the best way to destroy a Gargoyle is to smash apart its stone form during the day. Gargoyles are often summoned by mages and placed on the ramparts of castles, to defend them at night. While vulnerable as statues, Gargoyles heal their wounds completely through the course of a single day while petrified. Some constructs are made to mimic Gargoyles, but are born of magic and are nothing more than animated stone--true Gargoyles can sexually reproduce, producing litters of eggs that they keep hidden until the young hatch and are raised. Many Gargoyles are intelligent and capable of speech. Hell KnightA Hell Knight is a massive, eyeless demon of immense physical strength. These monsters tower over men and can easily tear them apart with their bare hands. It is unknown how Hell Knights are capable of seeing, as they lack a visible nose, making them incapable of smelling the scents of other creatures. While huge and capable of generating powerful blasts of dark magic, Hell Knights are slow creatures, and not as intelligent as other hellspawn. Most often, they are found in corrupted ruins and other dark places, set to guard powerful artifacts from intruders and thieves.[/ul]

I-J[/b] An Imp is a tall, humanoid demon with gray skin, bony scales on its arms, and ten eyes in its head. They are quick and agile, and capable of traversing many terrains, capable of climbing on any kind of surface. Imps are very aggressive creatures, attacking with sharp claws when close, or by generating fireballs in their hands and throwing them at their prey if they are too far off. Imps often appear by teleporting into a room through magic, signified by the appearance of reddish-orange magic circles. While not particularly strong, Imps usually attack foes in numbers, and are often summoned by Arch-Viles. The only appear in the dark, deep places of the world, such as large caves underneath the Peak. IncubusIncubi are demons that prey on the sexual lust of women, often taking the form of unbelievably handsome men. Realistically, Incubi are dangerous and vampiric creatures that, while humanoid, have large, bat-like wings, forked tails, and sharp claws and talons. They hide their appearance with their powers, changing their appearances to suit the desires of their victims. Magically-sensitive sentients are capable of detecting them, feeling uncomfortable around them due to the dark magic. When not prowling on the surface, Incubi are often kept in harems by powerful female demons, and dress in a variety of ways, from demure, to the racy. In battle, they wield powerful dark magic alongside considerable physical strength. They are closely related to Succubi, and are physically stronger than them, though less powerful in the divine arts.[/ul]

M-N[/b] The Malachi is a hulking monstrosity thought to be connected to the Old Gods from before the cataclysm that ruined Ymaggion. These terrible brutes tower over men, and are armed with massive, clawed hands and fly about on large, gray-feathered wings. They are covered in a thick, green and black hide, and their heads, cephalapod in nature, are adorned with blazing orange eyes and a multitude of writhing tentacles in place of its mouth. Malachis are among the most terrible of demons, wielding immense physical strength that rivals that of Megademons and Hell Knights, and can generate portals that spew concentrated spheres of unholy magic at enemies. They are among the most dangerous of hellspawn ever to crawl up from the chaos, rumored to make men go insane with their very presence. MegademonA Megademon is the archetypical demon, spawned in the hottest fires of Hell. These red-skinned demons are incredibly muscular, sporting harsh and angular faces crowned by a pair of long horns, large, reverse-jointed legs ending in fierce talons, and wide, leathery wings spread out from their backs. Megademons typically wield scimitars and other cruel-looking blades in combat, and are capable of breathing intense flames from its mouth. Megademons are found typically in hot places, such as on the slopes of a volcano or in deep, lava-filled caverns underground. They are among the most powerful demons known to mankind, and are often seen commanding lesser demons into battle or acting as heavy assault soldiers. They are thought to be closely related to the dreaded Balrog.[/ul]

O-P[/b] Parapsyches are an unusual species of psychic demons resembling a floating, brain-like sac with dangling tentacles, narrow, nearly indistinguishable eyes, and insectile jaws. These swollen multi-limbed monsters feed on the mental energies of other sentient races. They prefer to taste the emotions of fear and pain, and so spend their time around war-zones and other sites of suffering. If they can find no one in the emotional state that they savor, a Parapsyche will find a victim and attack them with blasts of concentrated psychic force. The pain and confusion this causes are—quite literally—food and drink to the evil monster. Unfortunately, Parapsyches are capable of surviving in the most hostile environments and so can be found practically anywhere. Fortunately, their fleshy bodies offer little resistance to concussive weaponry such as shotguns and missiles.[/ul]
