Name: Sceptus Contra
Alias: Scept
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Nationality: Allondell
Appearance:At five feet and eight inches, Scept’s appearance is not particularly memorable beyond a look of needing a few more baths. Greasy more often than not, Scept’s ratty, fair hair is kept short, usually with crude, self-inflicted haircuts that leave nearly all his forehead uncovered. His skin is greased as well and equally as light, and he certainly carries the appearance of a child from northern Allondell, fair to the bone and not particularly handsome. His eyes are a grayish green, perhaps a little smaller than usual and widely spaced, and his smile is not particularly clean or well-maintained. Scrawny and out of shape, Scept largely looks like a boy not very capable of taking care of himself.
Personality: Largely impatient, Scept has never been one to sit in one place for long. Often immature, vulgar, and quite rude while he is in public company, Scept commonly attempts to make life difficult for whatever authority is above him whenever he can. Arrogant and sarcastic while taking advice, Scept finds it very difficult to exhibit any ounce of maturity and obedience behind the wall of his jocular and carefree nature. Scept also happens to be terrified of the dark and will do most anything he can to avoid it.
Possessions:
The Chaos Core:
The Chaos Core was created long ago, a leftover piece of ancient technology. As the years passed, the Core moved from host to host, gathering information and power. As the Core would lead the host to its death, it would leave the body to die and search for a new host to add to its databank of information.
The actual image of this item is very vague, looking no more conspicuous than a wisp of cloud or a shimmering light that simply seems out of place. The Chaos Core is the center of Scept’s power supply, even though the passing of it to him was a complete accident, having been given it as a small child when the previous host died near him. The Core found Scept a suitable host and has been subtly showing itself more and more inside him as he grows. Slowly he has become more aware of its presence and more experimental in accessing the power himself, but his skill is far from its potential as of yet.
The Chronoscepter Map:
The item in the stories and Scept’s dreams is foretold to be hidden in pieces documented by this map. He hopes to someday use this map to find and assemble the Chronoscepter.
Special Abilities: Scept specializes in the art of time controlling and electrical magic. From time bubbles to lightning bolts, Scept is slowly learning how to do it all but is still relatively unskilled at it.
History: Scept was born to a particularly gifted Taron Mage known as Ephis, his wife and Scept’s mother dying from birth despite the best efforts given to aid her. With his only sibling being several years older than him and relatively indifferent to her family as a whole, Scept quickly learned the city of Minervum and began spending more time wandering the streets of it than at home. Not seeming bothered by his children’s behavior, his father would often go away for days or even weeks at a time, leaving his two children to take care of themselves while he was away.
One day though, no older than ten or eleven years old, Scept returned home in the middle of the night, not expecting to find anyone there. However, as he entered his home he found himself in the middle of a confrontation between his father and several others. Immediately his escape was blocked, and Scept was used as a tool to gain information out of his father. It was at this point in time that the Chaos Core, the object these intruders were searching for, chose to leave Ephis Contra and enter the man’s son.
Scept, being previously powerless in the art of magic, much to his father’s dislike, was suddenly filled with it. Before he knew it, the Chaos Core activated itself inside Scept, linking his DNA with itself, flooding the boy with electrical and chronomatical powers. In the blink of an eye, Scept had traveled at nearly the speed of light, feeling only like a teleportation to him, and he watched helplessly as a pillar of raging electricity erupted from his home nearly half a mile away.
Unaware of what the Chaos Core had done in him, Scept grew fearful of his abilities, immediately traveling to the Taron Citadel in search of control of this new power. The group of Mages gladly obliged to his requests, but they offered no answers to Scept’s questions about himself or what had happened to his father. In four years, half the average speed, Scept had graduated from the university as a Novice Battlemage, his control greatly increased but his ability to grasp his raw potential still strongly lacking. It was with the Taron Mages that he came across the artifact of the Chronoscepter, a weapon of legends said only to exist in story, but with much research and some manipulation of the Chaos Core, Scept has come to procure a map to this artifact.
Despite the help from the Taron Mages, Scept felt out of place in the rigid system of the magi and overall uncomfortable with them, finding more and more possible evidence to link his father’s death with the Taron Mages. Frustrated with the circumstances surrounding him, Sceptus left the Taron Mages at the age of fifteen, looking to further develop his abilities elsewhere and without the restraint of the leaders there. Currently Scept is trying to gather the resources and information to travel to the far-side of the world in search of the fabled Lightning Temple in Zailleon where not only are some of the most powerful elements of Lightning said to rest, but also the possibility of a section of the Chronoscepter lying in wait there. With the Chaos Core subtly beating with his own heart and pushing him toward his goal, the boy eagerly awaits his chance to move.
