Name: Roas D. Kateran
Alias: n/a
Age: 25
Gender: Male
Nationality: Verivia (Northern Cher Plek)
Appearance: Roas is a tall, solidly-built man, with a fairly tanned complexion due to his heritage from the northern regions of Cher Plek. He is roughly six feet two inches in height, and weighs in at a hundred and eighty four pounds. Roas retains a strong, muscular build without looking like a veritable mountain of a man, and without looking deceptively weak. His hair is black and cropped short, and has gray eyes. His left eyebrow is partially separated by a scar running through it at a slight angle, given to him when he narrowly avoided a Stamarian soldier’s blade rifle. His chin and upper lip often sport the beginnings of stubble, as oftentimes he is unable to give his appearance much time. The rest of his body has similar scars caused by bladed weapons.
Roas’ attire is a simple affair, consisting of a short-sleeved, dark green shirt and grayish-black slacks held to his waist by a thin leather belt. His feet are clad in simple sneakers; while not ideal to wear around the rubble in his kingdom, they allow him to move quickly when its needed. The most elaborate article of clothing he wears is his jacket, and it too is one of the more common-piece jackets seen in his homeland. The jacket, made up of the same grayish-black fabric as his pants, only goes as low as his waist, except for the white-trimmed zipper, which extends two and a half inches below it on a strip of fabric. Either side of the jacket has a pair of pockets, the hems also trimmed in white. The hem around the neck, also colored white, is tall and folded down over it, and white trim lines around the shoulder seams, which are designed in a way to make them look slightly pointed. Large white cuffs surround the wrists of the jacket’s sleeves. The upper chest is adorned with two white lines, pointing downwards towards the zipper, with two shorter lines an inch and a half above and below the right line. A large flap covers part of the zipper around the chest on the right side of the jacket, and the left holds two smaller flaps that end in white trim that fit within the larger flap. Each side of the coat on the inside of the jacket holds two inner pockets. A gun holster is held on his left side, hidden by the jacket.
Personality: Roas is a gruff, serious, and taciturn man, one who does not often crack jokes or put up with levities from others. He is considered an introverted, often brooding individual, and rarely allows his emotions to show in his expressions. As such, he keeps from opening up to others. He is not very trusting of others, and He is stubborn, and resistant to change. While this makes him a particularly difficult in battle, outside of combat it can often lead to arguments and raised tempers should he be particularly adamant about something. Additionally, Roas is a bitter person when the subject of Stamaria comes up—due to the loss of his kingdom, he tends to be hostile and untrusting of any Stamarian he meets. Generally speaking, these days the only people he truly trusts are those belonging to the cell he was assigned to.
Possessions: Roas’ belongings are few, having lost much of his property and belongings in the war between his kingdom and the Holy Empire of Stamaria. He has a personal earpiece communicator that allows him to keep in contact with his comrades during missions, and a Stamaria-issue 9mm automatic pistol, which he keeps in the holster hidden beneath his jacket. He also carries a four-inch combat knife on his person, in case he runs out of ammo or an enemy gets too close for him to effectively use his pistol. His wallet contains a few old family pictures, but otherwise, he has little else that actually belongs to him.
Special Abilities: Roas is, for all intents and purposes, a normal human being with little magical potential. What he lacks in special power, he makes up for in other ways. Though he prefers using his right hand over his left, Roas is naturally ambidextrous and is capable of applying that ability to combat. He is proficient in the use of firearms, though is nowhere near being a master sharpshooter. He is highly skilled in knife-fighting, a skill he picked up during his time on the streets before being recruited into the Korin terrorist organization. Officially, his role in his cell is that of a vehicle combatant, and has been trained in the use of military vehicles, though the most powerful vehicle he has ever used is a lightly armored urban-use combat mech. Other than this, he has some basic experience with construction.
History: Roas D. Kateran was born in the kingdom of Verivia, a nation in the northern regions of Cher Plek, closer to the nation boundaries of Zailleon and the Holy Empire of Stamaria, during the years where tensions between Zailleon and Cher Plek were high. The Korin had not yet been formed, nor had Stamaria began its empirical conquest. Due to the influence of his parents and others during these tumultuous years, Roas grew up with a prejudice against Stamarians, though he knew well enough to keep his tongue in check and not voice his prejudice. His family is moderately well to do, though not rich in any sense of the word, and he grew up comfortably in Verivia. He developed a dislike for school and an interest in sports and technology, like many boys his age. He ended up working part time as a construction worker as he grew older, and when he graduated, he gained a unique chance at learning how to use a Dwarven Constructor, as some were recently modified for use by taller sentient races. He grew quite skilled with maneuvering the mech—skills that would prove invaluable to him later on.
Soon, the Korin were established, and the villages and towns on the southern borders of Stamaria were mercilessly slaughtered, instigating the war between the two continents. The Empire quickly retaliated, their superior forces ruthlessly decimating the militaries of the northernmost kingdoms. The monarchies fell, and the governments were stripped of their power as they were annexed into the Empire. Knowing that further treachery lied in wait, Stamaria pressed on, and soon, Verivia fell. During the confusion, Roas lost contact with his family, and was found by Stamarian soldiers, who were quick to apprehend him and place him in a prison camp. Due to the relatively recent terrorist attacks by the Korin, all of the captured Verivians were treated harshly and abused, causing Roas to only be further embittered with Stamaria.
After Verivia was stripped of its government and annexed, it was not long before the now-powerless kingdom to submit to Stamaria’s will and accept its inclusion in the Empire. With it came the needed reparations, and many people applied to become honorary Stamarians. Roas, however, was tossed to the streets due to his fierce resistance during his imprisonment, and forced to survive on his own. He learned how to fight with knives in order to survive against the criminals and the more desperate peoples in the ghettos, until he was able to acquire a stolen pistol and use it to defend himself.
Then, one day, his luck changed. During one of the few construction jobs he was able to acquire, a particularly rowdy squad of Stamarian soldiers on their off-time showed up at the construction site and began harassing the locals working there. Tensions grew as the soldiers, likely drunk, got rougher with the workers, until finally, Roas decided to put an end to it and quickly assaulted them using a modified Dwarven Constructor. In a rather brutal fashion, he killed all but three of the soldiers, who escaped. Having slain Stamarian military, Roas had no choice but to flee, and was forced to abandon the Constructor during the chase. From then on, Roas knew that he would be on the run. However, word of his actions spread, and caught the attention of the local Korin contingent that had stationed itself in the former kingdom. After a careful review, the Korin’s recruiters tracked him down and offered him a place among their ranks, and a chance to strike back at the Holy Empire of Stamaria for their transgressions against the world.
Roas, after consideration, accepted their offer and was brought into the fold. As a Korin operative, he was given duties based on his capabilities. As such, along with proper firearms training with both pistols and rifle weapon, Roas was taught how to steal Stamarian combat mechs and operate them, a task that was easy for him to master thanks to his familiarity with the Dwarven Constructor. Upon completing his training in the deeper parts of the Cher Plek rainforests, Roas returned to the conquered kingdom of Verivia and was placed into one the various operative cells near its former capitol, and has been working alongside his comrades against Stamaria for the past two years.
