Name: Kristoph "Kite" McKnights
Alias: Wild Spiral
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Nationality: Valtheran(ian)
Appearance: Kite has a wiry build with large amounts of lean muscle sculpting an otherwise rail-thin figure. He stands at roughly 6'0 and weighs approximately 180 pounds. He has fairly slender legs with strongly-toned calves and slender hamstring and thigh muscles. His chest and core are tightly packed and rock solid, despite not necessarily bursting from him. His arms have a defined tone and tension to them that indicate his unusual strength for his size and weight. He is dextrous and built in a manner with minimal wasted space, resulting in a very efficient body type, especially for his preferences in combat. His skin is lightly tanned in all areas, and he rarely if ever burns from the sun.
Kite's face is built in a near square with a strong square jaw line and a slightly sloped forehead of similar widths. His cheekbones are relatively unnoticed and un defined, and his nose has a slight slope and otherwise small area making it largely camouflaged under the rest of his appearance. His hair is a chestnut brown and hangs to just below his jaw line. He will allow some scruff to build up before shaving; however, he finds beards to be unmanageable and prefers to remain clean-shaven. The one blemish on his skin is generally hidden behind his hair on the left side of his head where a blade obqviously once slashed him and left a rather unsightly scar roughly 6 cm in length.
His wardrobe consists mainly of various colors of cargo pants matched with various colors of V-neck T-shirts, with the most common pair being black cargoes matched with a dark blue shirt. He wears a belt with the logo of an asterisk on the buckle. He will usually wear a thin grey jacket with sleeves just past where the T-shirt sleeves end. This jacket features a distinctive silver crescent logo with what appears to be a sword’s blade cutting through the middle. This jacket doubles as extra storage for field excursions. For more casual situations, he will forgo the jacket and opt for a long-sleeve T-shirt instead. He usually attaches the sheaths to his swords along his belt by one of the loops; however, he has been known to carry them across his back in instances where he does not wear his jacket. In situations where Kite is forced away from the city; he brings a rather large sling bag with him.
Personality: Kite is often seen as a casual and relaxed person who prefers to let the world resolve its own problems; however, he uses this persona largely as a facade to hide a much darker and more conniving set of tendencies that result in him becoming extremely focused over completing certain goals and tasks. He generally manages to have luck with women using his facade, but few can handle his more eccentric tendencies that progressively reveal themselves. The result is a ruthlessly efficient planner who hides behind the mask of the average man enabling him to manipulate events into his favor without obvious clues being left. Despite his tendencies to be somewhat underhanded, he has good intentions for the world around him and tries to avoid hurting or endangering innocent people. He also prefers to disarm and confuse in combat rather than straight-out kill an opponent.
Despite his utilitarian ways, sometimes accomplished in a devious manner, he has an unfortunate ability to mentally fail for periods of time, resulting in psychotic breaks and episodes. During such times, he can become pathologically obsessed with a task at hand, forgoing all but the most basic of needs to accomplish a task. He is far more willing to manipulate in situations, which can cause direct harm to innocents, and he also has an almost insatiable appetite for blood, with a much more direct and dangerous combat style that appears in this state of mind. Fortunately, it takes quite the mental blow to his psyche to trigger this state, such witnessing the deaths of countless innocents or an extremely close friend. This metal state can last for up to a week if left unchecked before Kite simply becomes too weary to continue and is forced to rest, recovering his mental status, but that still leaves plenty of time for him to be considered dangerous.
Possessions: As mainly an urban dweller, Kite rarely keeps large amounts of supplies on him, with the main staples being his 66 cm Katana and his 45 cm Wakizashi. The blades are made with mostly composite steel of Tungsten, Nickel, Chromium, Vanadium and Iron, while the cutting edge is formed with an unknown atomic structure which glows blue in moonlight and orange in sunlight. It is believed that this alloy is a rare photosensitive compound from the era of technology, as only a few instances of the metal exist in the world. The blades are incredibly sharp, able to cut through a diamond in a single stroke much to the amazement of onlookers.
In extraneous or potentially hazardous situations, Kite is known to keep many survivalist forms of equipment on him, such as small explosives, matches, flares, medicines, and emergency rations. His sling bag is usually loaded with a blanket and carbon/Kevlar weaved tarp capable of covering a shelter for himself and one other person with him. His experience in the wilderness has allowed him to learn planning and preparation for any potential engagement away from the city.
Special Abilities: Kite specializes in combat with his preference being towards swordplay. Kite himself is a master swordsman, having studied for years under his father and mother to become adept with blades. His preference is for fast engagements in which he can use his speed to counter and parry his opponent’s attacks, allowing him to use a style focusing on defense-to-offense. It is often noted that he will not keep a concrete set of blocks and strikes and frequently improvises on the battlefield while studying his opponent for weaknesses. Once he gains advantage, Kite will begin to target unguarded points and go for non-lethal blows, forcing an opponent to expend energy attempting to block and occasionally striking regardless. During psychotic episodes, Kite’s style becomes far more chaotic and violent, with much of his speed being used to affect the area around the battle, resulting in much strafing and environmental damage, Often he will corner opponents and subsequently overpower them by a similar method; however, the key difference lies in the fact that he is far more ruthless in this state and will not stop at merely disarming an opponent but will regularly mutilate and otherwise destroy an opponent if given the chance. He also appears to experience a boost of strength and speed in this state, likely due to an adrenaline rush, allowing him to overcome and opponent much quicker than usual.
In addition to combat, Kite is a brilliant survivalist, capable of making the worst conditions temporarily livable. His ability to plan and improvise allows him to hunt, fish, build, and defend himself in the worst of natural conditions. However, his ability to survive stems largely from both his physical and mental fitness.
Physically, Kite keeps in impeccable shape, often training himself to be faster and more agile, yet use his speed with the impressive amount of lean muscle he has to boost his power. This conditioning allows him to run and be far more agile than the average warrior to the point that many who have seen him in combat regard him as on a completely different plane of combat when executing at full throttle. Additionally, his endurance allows him to make it through extensive amounts of combat without losing intensity or focus during the battle.
Mentally, Kite’s strength stems in his ability to improvise and think on his feet. He often analyzes conditions or opponents while in conflict with them and studies the effects on himself, allowing him to find a way to counter whatever way he is being affected. His ability to reason is just as sharp and allows him to track and make connections, which would take most people years to fully realize. Unfortunately, his ability to break can cause these abilities to overload him, causing him to shut down for a period of time after a break, during which he usually rests.
History: Kite was born in the year 82 S.R. to Klavier and Naoko Mcknights in Iaedora, both swordsmen of incredibly renown. His parents came from very different backgrounds with his father hailing from Minervum of Allondell, at the time known for their formal culture and the mastery of the fencing style. His mother came from a family of warriors in Kouichi, known for their mastery of Battōjutsu, Iaidō, Iaijutsu, Kenjutsu, and Shinkendo, among other traditional oriental styles. His parents raised him unbeknownst to the amount of prestige his family had among masters of the blade.
One day, while walking, Kite observed a small boy being harassed by much larger boys and decided to step in. When one boy attempted to punch him, Kite reached for a nearby steel rod and disabled the attacker in one swift stroke. He proceeded to dispatch 5 other bullies almost effortlessly and ran home to his parents to tell them of his bravery. Upon hearing this, Klavier and Naoko decided that is was time for Kite to learn of his heritage. His parents began to instruct him as a swordsman at the age of 7 and continued until his 18th birthday, at which point he entered the royal guard academy, completing the entrance examination with ease. He proceeded to graduate from the academy at the top of his class and was placed among the elite guard of Valtheran stationed in his home of Iaedora.
After his first official skirmish, in which he singlehandedly disarmed over twenty radicals attempting an uprising in a crowded town square, preventing any and all bloodshed, the king took notice and named him the Captain of the newly forming Valtheranian Intelligence Dispatch at the age of 20, allowing him to combine his physical prowess with his wit. He was asked to design a symbol for the agency, creating the logo displayed on the back of his jacket from a desire to combine his father’s openness in combat (the sword), with his mother’s ability to glow on the battlefield (the crescent). Currently he is still head of this dispatch and occasionally engages in fieldwork to keep busy.
On a more personal matter, his father has recently gone mission, causing his mother to panic and him to open his own investigation. His only findings were a small journal his father had been keeping of his encounters with a man under the alias “Saturn”. Where this will lead him is currently uncertain, however, Kite is certain that some type of conspiracy has affected his family, leaving him determined to unravel the plot to kidnap his father.
Miscellaneous: I’ve never taken this section seriously, and I don’t plan to now.
