TURN 7: THE TRUTH COMES OUT (PART 3)!
Where… where am I?
Anton slowly opened his eyes… and found himself staring into a vast, empty space. The planes of nothing but white stretched out before Anton's eyes. He was clad in his normal clothes, sans his duel disk and deck.
Have I died…? The last the thing I remember… a voice? No, the duel with that freak… I remember being sucked dry of energy… So, I guess that's it. I really am de-
"You're not dead yet, Anton."
A chill ran down Anton's spine as the words reached his ears… He frantically looked around, trying to find the owner of the voice that he had just heard. After a few moments of not spotting anything Anton sighed. He knew the voice wasn't just his imagination, which meant that something very bad was probably about to happen.
"Right you are. There is something bad about to… no, there is something VERY bad happening right now… and you're one of the chosen. One of the ones that can bring the world back into balance."
Anton had already accepted that he wasn't going to find out who was speaking to him, so he resolved to find out as much as he could in the meantime.
"…. annnnd I'm so special because…?"
The voice chuckled. The fact that whoever was speaking to him found his statement amusing was more than a little irritating.
"Hey, whoever the hell you are, I almost lost my life out there, fulfilling my destiny… or some crap like that."
The voice seemed to pause, then once again resounded throughout the empty whiteness encompassing Anton.
"You are not 'special', per se. However, you have been chosen by destiny to try and change the horrible fate that has been planned for this world. As you've noted yourself in previous days, 'this world is so rotten'… Others believe just as you do… but at the same time, would not hesitate to do which you fear…"
Anton growled. This conversation was going nowhere, fast. Wasting time was not something Anton was fond of doing, and he wasn't going to start doing so now.
"That which I fear… huh? So, you mean… what exactly? I fear a lot of things. Among the things I fear… bodiless voices, telling me that I've been chosen to 'save the world'. I also happen to fear being stuck in crappy relationships, but that's another story."
The whole ground seemed to shake, as if the world was laughing at the statement Anton had made.
"Heh heh heh. You're getting used to this place quite quickly. To think you'd make jokes in a situation of such dire circumstances. You do want to leave this place, do you not?"
"Well, duh. I'd appreciate it if you told me to do that, ASAP. Or should I just stay here and joke about the fate of the world?"
"I see you have not accepted your charge yet. Well, no matter. You cannot run from this task, and in time you will understand why you have been chosen. Now, wander for a while, as you can find new power in the emptiness."
Anton sighed. Wonderful, more riddles.
"You know, I'm not the type that likes playing games… unless they involve some sort of fight… So I…"
Anton suddenly realized that all traces of the presence he had felt had vanished from the empty plane. He rolled his eyes and started to wander off from the spot he had been standing on.
"… Am talking to myself. Hahah, very funny Mr. or Ms. Voice of the World…"
Anton soon came upon… more emptiness. This was getting ridiculous. How was he supposed to get stronger in a place with nothing in it? Anton sighed, suddenly feeling cold. He began to try and warm his hands by breathing on them, but the realized he was stuck in place… as a Glyph appeared beneath his feet. Anton's eyes widened in fear, and as the glyph engulfed him he cried out in agony.
"Aaaaarrrgh!"
Then, just as suddenly as it had appeared, the glyph was gone.. Leaving behind a panting Anton.
"What the hell… no pain…?"
The voice that Anton had heard before chuckled, amused. It seemed that whatever had just happened was exactly what the mysterious voice wanted to happen.
"Are you ready to listen now?"
Anton growled. He had been tricked, and that pissed him off. He wasn't going to be toyed around with again. He had vowed that when Ryu had almost beaten him. He roared and suddenly his duel disk appeared around his arm, deck already inserted.
"You want to play games? FINE. Let's play…! MY DRAW!"
The voice chuckled once more and a shadowy silhouette of, what appeared to be a clone of the young duelist, appeared.
"Alright, young man. If this is what you wish, then so it shall be. Now, you seem to have taken the first move… so draw your cards"
Anton glared. He didn't need some mystery voice preaching about fate and destiny telling him what to do. He knew he had to draw anyway, so the fact that the other "duelist" had told him what to do meant he was being patronized. Something Anton would not stand for… Anton picked up his next card and drew.
"What… the…?"
All the cards in Anton's hand had gone blank, and the card he picked up was blank as well. Nothing, just empty pieces of white. Anton stared at the cards, horrified. If he couldn't see his cards he wouldn't know what he was playing…
"What kind of trick is this? What have you done…?"
The shadow clone seemed to shake, as if laughing, though no sound was heard. The clone motioned its hand, waving as mocking Anton for not being able to see his cards. Anton snarled, and threw his hand out, pointing at the clone.
"If you think is going to stop me, you've got another thing coming! If I can't see my cards…"
Anton's eyes went white again, as they had in his previous duel, and once again an aura emanated from the young man. Suddenly, a burning sensation filled Anton's left hand.
"Ughhh… Aaaah!"
Anton cried out as he a star-shaped scar appeared on his hand, as if it had been lasered on like his marker. However, Anton bore with the pain, and fought it off soon after. Anton dropped to one knee, but didn't collapse. He was going to hold out as long as possible, and fend off this imposter.
"… if I can't see my cards… I'll just make some up!"
Anton slapped down a card in his monster zone, and called out to the heavens, hoping that his plan would work. If it didn't he was screwed, but if it did… he would have a major advantage in the duel ahead of him.
"I call forth, Magistos Eins!"
A black cloaked figure appeared on the battlefield, sword in hand and a dark aura emanating from it. It seemed that Anton's plan had worked. The clone finally stopped laughing, and looked at Anton seriously for the first time.
"Good… you have unlocked the first door… Now, go and be of use!"
The empty white void suddenly came to life with flowers, and streams and wind and a brilliant white light engulfed Anton as the young duelist cried out and suddenly… woke up.
"… where…?"
Anton looked around, not recognizing the place he was in.
"Ooooh, you're finally awake!"
A cheery, female voice rang out and a girl stepped into Anton's field of vision. The girl was very beautiful, dressed in a white halter-top, and shorts. She had some buckles around her legs, and pretty pink ribbon holding her hair back.
"So, cutie, finally back from the dead…?"
Anton gave her an awkward smile, a little uncomfortable. He decided, however, that courtesy was the best way to go in this situation.
"Yeah… you could say that."
The girl giggled, and took his hand, pulling him up to his feet.
"Well, now that you're awake, you should introduce yourself!"
Anton blushed, as if he was embarrassed, but said nothing.
"Awwwww…. Come on, you can't even tell me your name?"
The girl pouted and seemed a little depressed. Anton sighed. He wasn't about to give out his name to anyone who asked, but whoever this girl was, she had been watching over him for who knew how long. It wouldn't hurt to show some respect.
"Sorry… my name's Anton. You are…?"
The girl seemed relieved. She winked at him and spoke with a gentle voice.
"I'm…"

Magistos Eins Light/Spellcaster/4/Union-Effect 1500/1000 While this monster is face-up on the field you can negate the Special Summoning of monsters with the same type as a monster on your side of the field. Once per turn, you can equip this monster to a monster on your side of the field to give the monster Magistos Eins' effect and increase its ATK by 500. If the equipped card would be destroyed you can destroy this card instead.

TURN 8: STAYING AND GOING
It had been about a week since Anton had woken up in a stranger's home. The young duelist was getting somewhat used to hanging out with the girl, but at the same time was always thinking about leaving. He believed he was overstaying his welcome. However, the girl had kept telling him that it was nonsense.
"Sorry, I just… get uncomfortable staying with other people. I mean, I hardly even know you…"
The girl giggled and blew a kiss at Anton.
"Silly boy, don't be shy. Here, I'll give you an ultimatum. If you don't defeat me in a duel, I won't let you leave. How's that sound?"
Anton's face finally showed a smile. So, this girl was a duelist too. Anton could work with this. He'd have her beat soon enough, and then he could finally go his own way. He really didn't want to impose more than he already had.
"Alright, let's duel."
Anton grabbed his deck holder, and pulled out his deck. He'd duel without his Duel Disk, because he didn't want to be found just yet. If he activated the Star Generation Engine on his Disk, he'd risk being caught by the Special Forces.
"Ladies first."
The girl smiled. She wouldn't go easy on Anton, so he'd better be prepared.
"My move then. I'll draw and play Guardian Girl. When she's out on the field in attack mode, I can negate her destruction once per turn. Now, I'll play a card face-down and end my turn, since I can't attack on the first turn."
Anton smiled. This girl was better than he thought she would be, which made him happy but also a little sad. It'd be a shame to leave a good duelist behind, but Anton wasn't ready for a traveling partner just yet. Especially since he was already on the run from the Special Forces.
"Alright, Serra, that's good. However, don't get cocky just because your monster can survive a little longer than others. In this game, making sure to stick with it until the end is important too! I'll play the Field Spell, Speed Cosmos, and dominate the area with its power! Now, Speed Cosmos allows me to play Speed Spells, although you get the same benefit. I'll play the Speed Spell - Angel Baton to start things off, and discard this card to the grave after drawing two. Then, I'll Special Summon out Spell Striker by removing Angel Baton in my Grave from the game."
Anton tapped his monster, and pointed to Serra directly.
"My Spell Striker will attack you directly, and take a small chunk of your life points with its attack!"
Serra blinked. Her opponent was good. Very good, in fact. Guardian Girl could negate her destruction, but Serra hadn't once met someone that would go straight for her life points. This man she had been taking care of was interesting, to say the least.
"Alright, Serra, I'll end my turn by playing two cards face-down. Your move."
Anton sighed, and watched Serra carefully as she drew her next card.
"Draw! I'll Tribute Guardian Girl to summon my Queen's Guardian! She can negate her destruction up to twice per turn, and when she destroys a monster she can attack again with 500 extra points! So, I'll destroy your Spell Striker to start things off!"
"Tch."
Anton growled, and he prepared to activate his face-down card. However, he'd wait to see if Serra continued to attack. If she didn't, Anton wouldn't use his trump just yet.
"Then… I'll end my turn by placing a card face-down."
Anton swore silently, keeping his feeling to himself. No matter, eventually Serra would have to try an attack directly. He drew his card, and glanced at it. Sighing, he looked over the options in his hand and quickly picked the best tactic for the moment. Staring him down was a 2100 monster, able to destroy any monster he summoned.
"Alright, my turn. I'll play The Warrior Returning Alive, adding Spell Striker back to my hand. I'll then Special Summon him once more, removing the spell I just played. Then, I'll Tribute him to summon my Silent Swordsman Lv. 5, a monster who is immune to all your Spells."
The girl quirked an eyebrow. So, the young man was going to forego destroying her monster to do damage to her. Good, he was smarter than most. That was just perfect…
"I'll attack with my Silent Swordsman's Buster Slash attack!"
Serra's life points dropped again, reduced to 3200. At the rate this match was going, Anton would be here a while longer. Serra was sure that wasn't what Anton wanted, but unless he upped his game, that was all he was going to get. Anton sighed, knowing where this what headed. He ended his turn, and motioned to Serra.
"Your turn."
Serra smiled daintily, and blew another kiss at Anton, annoying him slightly.
"So, Annnnton, you must be feeling much better. However, you'll need to get even better to beat me! I'll draw, and tribute my monster to Special Summon my ultimate servant! Come forth, Queen's Queen!"
A brilliant flash of light burst forth, and suddenly a beautiful, female knight appeared before Anton and the Silent Swordsman. Serra smirked, and snapped her fingers. Her monster dashed forward and cleaved the swordsman in twain, leaving Anton defenseless. Then, Queen's Queen readied herself and attacked again.
"Just what I wanted! I'll activate my Dimensional Prison trap card! It doesn't destroy your monster, but removes it from the game."
Serra sighed. Her opponent had dodged a bullet, and she was happy for him. However, that didn't mean she was going to give him any time to breathe.
"Alright, then… I'll activate my Queen's Queen's effect. When she is removed from the field I can bring back either Guardian Girl, or Queen's Guardian, depending on how many turns my monster was out on the field. Since it was only a turn, I get to summon back Guardian Girl. Now, it's your turn."
Anton nodded slowly, and drew his card. His trump hadn't quite worked the way he thought it would. His Silent Swordsman had been destroyed, though that too was part of Anton's plan. He'd have to think about his next move very carefully, or he could end up losing everything right now. His opponent was probably going to summon her Queen's Guardian once more in her next turn. If Anton didn't play his cards right from this moment on, he'd lose…
"Alright, I draw!"
Anton's face broke into a genuine, relieved smile as he looked at his card. He had this won now, of that he was sure.
"First I'll activate Call of the Haunted, bringing back my Silent Swordsman. Then, I'll play my Fusion Sword Murasame Blade, and Double Attack by discarding a Lv. 6 monster from my hand. I'll attack your Guardian Girl, and then I'll attack her again… destroying her and leaving you open, for the first time this duel."
Serra sighed. So, Anton had finally gotten the card he needed… but now he was left with no cards in his hand, and only on monster on the field. Granted, it was a powerful monster, but at the same time, it was ONLY a monster, easily removed from the field.
"My turn then! I'll draw… Heehee! I'll then play Mystical Space Typhoon to get rid of your Call of the Haunted. I will then summon Guardian Girl in attack mode and attack your directly. Your move."
Anton was in trouble now. If he didn't draw a card that could help this turn, he'd be a sitting duck when Serra called out her Queen's Guardian… and Anton didn't know how long his luck could hold out. There were a few cards in his deck that could help, or even win him the duel but drawing them was a different matter entirely. He'd have to be insanely lucky…
Anton was just about to give up and resign himself to staying here when he realized that this place wasn't where he wanted to be… and he'd be damned if he dillydallied any longer in this place. He put his hand on his next card, and prayed for it to be a good one. Unbelievably, Serra saw Anton's eyes turn white, and she suddenly felt a change in the young duelist. An aura of confidence surrounded him, and suddenly she knew that he was going to win.
"I forfeit."
Anton was taken aback, so much so that his eyes returned to normal and his presence seemed to return to normal…
"What…?"
Serra smiled sweetly, and shrugged.
"Didn't you hear me? You win. Now, you're free to do whatever you please. So, get going to… wherever it is you were planning on going. However, go with the knowledge you've made a friend, alright?"
Anton nodded slowly. He hadn't had many friends before, so the idea was slightly unnerving. However, it wasn't a bad feeling that welled up inside of him when the girl said those words. He nodded, and smiled, then packed his things.
"Alright, Serra, I'm off. Take care…"
Serra nodded back, and saw Anton off that afternoon, hoping he'd get to his destination and sincerely wishing she could duel him again.

TURN 9: THE CALM BEFORE
As Anton was headed off to retrieve his D-Wheel, another young and promising duelist was wandering through the city.
If this place can even be CALLED a city anymore. Right now, it's more like a pile of junk and crap and more junk that people have to live with and survive off of… Though, I suppose you can't really call anything someone is able to survive off of junk or crap… Hrm. Well, once I figure out the appropriate name for this stuff, I'll write it down. In the meantime, I need to find someone to duel. I'm once again running low on money to buy food with…
The young man walked until he found one of the nicer benches and then sat down on it, waiting for someone to come and try to kick him off. When they eventually did try to get him to scram he'd be ready to duel them, and walk off with a decent amount of money. At least, that was his current plan.
"This is so… boring…"
The young man looked around, quickly finding a target and getting off the bench. His target was a young lady, sporting a confident look and a duel disk.
"Alright… My first 'victim'. Time to pull out my bag of tricks…"
The young man walked up to the young lady, and bowed.
"I'm Hunter, and I couldn't help but notice that you are duelist. Care to have friendly game…?"
The young lady shrugged, and then stopped herself.
"Well, you could introduce yourself first, mister…?"
"Hunter. That's my name. Sorry about that. Sometimes I forget my manners a little bit. To make up for it, you don't have to tell me your name. However, since we're both going to stand on ceremony, I'd like to up that stakes of the game a little bit. We are in the heart of Star Salvation after all… It'll be ladies first, obviously. How about it?"
The young lady nodded, and smirked. Obviously this kid had no idea he was about to duel one of the city's champion duelists. She was ready for this guy, and he was going to know who she was by the end of the duel… she'd make sure of that.
"Fine, name your conditions."
Hunter smiled. She had fallen for his trap. No matter how good a duelist she was, if she couldn't USE her best cards she was screwed no matter WHAT she happened to do. Hunter wasn't shaken by the fact that she might get off a few lucky direct attacks. As long as his life points didn't hit zero, he was going to win. Of that, he was completely sure of.
"Alright. If you lose, you buy me food… and if I lose, I'll give you my deck!"
The girl was surprised by the offer, but not at all disappointed. She could end up scoring another deck right here.
Interesting man, indeed… I wonder what makes him so confident…
"I accept your conditions. Don't go regretting them though!"
Hunter smiled back, as if the girl's smile and demeanor was infectious This was going to be easier than he thought, which did genuinely make him happy.
"Heh. Don't worry, I won't!"
The girl activated her Duel Disk, its SGE coming to life and generating energy for the city. Hunter sighed. Well, he didn't have a duel disk… yet. However, he didn't need one, and definitely didn't want one. After all, being Disk-less mean that the Special Forces couldn't track him.
"Alright, kid, my turn! I'll draw and play Obligation. You get to, and in fact have to, summon a level 4 or lower monster from your hand. The trade-off, however, is that you lose life points equal to that monster's attack."
Hunter sighed and played his Destiny Hero - Defender in defense position. So, the girl had started off by burning his life points. Just the kind of deck he had trouble with. A burn deck. However, it remained to be seen if the deck was indeed a burner, or if the girl had let him summon for another reason…
"Now… since you have a monster on the field… I'll summon Cyber Dragon to the field. I'll play three cards face-down, and now it's your turn."
Alright, so she summoned a higher-level monster. I'm guessing that her deck is a common machine deck, from the fact that she laid three cards face-down. Now, how to make her give up the ghost and let me know exactly what I'm dealing with here…
"Alright, DRAW!"
Hunter pulled the card from his deck, and he smirked. Just the monster he had needed. He placed the monster face-down, then activated his next card.
"My first real trick… Card Destruction. Throw out your hand, and let's begin again, shall we?"
The girl quirked an eyebrow. Why would the kid let her draw in his situation. She had no really threatening cards in her hand, and only two cards would be drawn from her deck. Yet, the kid still seemed so confident.
"Yes… let's. Is that all there is to your turn, or are you going to do anything else?"
Hunter shrugged, as if disappointed.
"Nope, that's about it. Your move."
The girl shook her head, as if in pity. The kid really didn't know what he was getting into. Plus, she got to draw another card due to Hunter's Destiny Hero card. He was really only helping her…
"Alright then. My draw! Two from my deck, and…"
Perfect. I got just what I needed.
"I'll activate Polymerization, fusing my two Cyber Dragons together to get Cyber-Twin Dragon. Now, my Twin Dragon will attack both your monsters!"
The machine monster roared, attacking with abandon and destroying the two monsters Hunter had out on the field… one of which was Needle Worm!
"What…? Needle Worm?"
Hunter smiled, and drew a card as the girl ended her turn and discarded the top five cards of her deck. It appeared that Hunter's strategy WAS deck destruction. A fourth of her deck was already gone, and while Cyber Twin was still on the field if Hunter found a way to destroy it the girl might be out of luck. It was his turn, and it appeared Hunter had pulled a card he needed.
"Ready? Here I come…!"
Hunter threw down a card, smirking as he did so.
"Swords of Revealing Light… and a monster card face-down. Your turn, a'ight?"
The girl sighed. Now Hunter was stalling. If she let him continue, she'd be out of cards before you could say "odd's bodkins". She couldn't let that happen. Especially not against just some upstart. She growled, and drew her card. Since Cyber-Twin couldn't attack she'd play it safe for now. After placing a card face-down, the girl ended her turn and motioned for Hunter to take his turn. Hunter smiled, and drew.
"I'll flip up my monster, Morphing Jar. This causes us to throw out our hand and draw five new cards."
Hunter's strategy continued, unhindered by anything she could do. At this rate, she'd be done for… unless she did something drastic. However, with the cards in her hand, she wouldn't be able to…
"Next, with the new cards in my hand… I'll play Magical Stone Excavation, and bring back Card Destruction. Then, I'll play it again. We throw out our hands AGAIN, and then draw again. But you already knew that, right?"
The girl growled. She had only a few cards left in her deck… She knew his next move would probably be…
"I'll play Book of Moon on my Morphing Jar. Your move, babe."
The girl drew her card, and sighed. There was no real choice… she was going to have to surrender and save herself the embarrassment of decking out…
"HOLD IT RIGHT THERE!"
A third voice interrupted, and Ryu stepped out from the shadows, staring at Hunter intently. He looked at the girl, and sighed.
"You might want to leave, and let me take care of this."
The girl nodded, and bolted as if shot from a cannon. Hunter growled, and looked at Ryu. His prey had gotten away, all because of…
"Who the hell are you?"
Hunter's inquiry was directed at the newcomer, anger barely contained. It wasn't often that Hunter got mad… but one of the things that could really irritate him was when someone got in his way. Ryu had done just that… and Hunter wasn't going to stand for it. Ryu smirked, obviously aware of the fact, and brought out his duel disk.
"You seem mad… How about we settle this with a duel? If you beat me, I'll buy you any sort of food, clothing, whatever. If you lose, you listen to what I have to say… Capiche?"
Hunter sighed. This guy had been watching him duel, obviously, and probably had figured out a way to counter Hunter's deck-out deck. Still, the offer was too tempting…
"I'll accept."
=Turn End=

TURN 10: THE STORM
"Alright, so who goes first, mister…?"
"Ryu. The name's Ryu. I'd usually like to lead, but since you're at a little bit of disadvantage… You can go first. Your name's Hunter, right? Not a bad name…"
Hunter looked slightly confused, as if he had missed a reference to something. He prepared to lay his cards down when Ryu laughed. Hunter looked up, slightly annoyed that Ryu was laughing at him.
"Here, kid. A Duel Disk."
Ryu threw a Duel Disk at the young man, a beautiful blue and green disk. Hunter caught it and looked at the disk with something akin to delight. Even though this would put him on the map, he still loved blue and green. The colors alone were enough to make him happy.
"Mmm. Shiny."
Ryu sighed. He was trying to be serious and all the kid could say was 'shiny'?
"Yes, shiny. Moving on… Get your game on!"
Hunter quirked an eyebrow.
"Wouldn't that be… 'it's time to duel'? … oh, never mind. Let's just do this thing already!"
Ryu smiled, and drew his five cards. He had already formed a plan to counter his opponent's deck-out tactics, but he was certain his opponent was smart enough not to use the same trick twice. He'd just have to wait and see what Hunter had in store for him. His opponent had also readied, and drawn the six starting cards a player was allowed.
"I'll play a monster in defense mode, then end by playing two cards face-down. Your move, Ryu."
Hunter's opponent sighed. A monster in defense position. Already, his opponent was showing much more confidence than anyone he had ever met… Well, except for Estrel… Ryu sighed. This was going to be tougher than he thought. If his opponent was confident enough to play a monster in defense mode, knowing Ryu had already seen his deck and come up with ways to counter it… It could only mean that Hunter was 100% sure his move would be a good one.
"Alright, my turn! DRAW!"
Ryu picked up his next card, glancing at it.
Interesting. My deck must be telling me to test his resolve. I've already picked up Future Fusion, which can thin my deck and summon out a powerful monster. However, given the current situation, I don't know if I want to. Hrm. Well, for now, I'll see how he counterattacks!
"Alright, kid, here I go! Red-Eyes Wyvern in attack mode! Chaos Fire Blast!"
The monster attacked, unleashing a stream of fire that blew through the field, destroying Hunter's monster. Ryu's opponent smiled as the Dragon-user killed his monster.
"Alright! Ryu, you've just destroyed my Giant Rat! I'm sure you already know that this allows me to summon an Earth attribute monster with 1500 attack points or less from my deck. The monster I choose is… My Labyrinth Wall!"
Ryu's eyes widened. He hadn't expected THAT. A 3000 defender, already on the field and a deck-out deck ready to tear through his cards.
Oh crap…! This isn't going to be as easy as I thought it would be… In fact, I won't be surprised if I lose. Damn, I underestimated him… And that's going to cost me. I have a feeling this is going to be BAD…
"My turn, Ryu?"
"Yeah… After I play Future Fusion, sending five dragons to my Grave."
"Alright, I draw. I'll switch my Wall to defense mode, then play another face-down monster. I'll set one more card in my Spell and Trap card zone, then end. Your move."
Ryu held his breath for a second, then drew his card. One turn had passed, meaning his Five-Headed Dragon was one more turn away. Still, that other defender monster worried him…
"I'll draw. Then… I set two cards face-down and end my turn. Your move."
Hunter chuckled a little. He knew what monster Ryu was trying to summon. His face-down cards would prevent that though. Assuming Ryu didn't do anything to destroy his face-down cards… However, Ryu didn't seem like the Spell and Trap destroying type. He probably had a Stamping Destruction or two, but he hadn't drawn them. At least, not yet…
"I'll draw a card."
Hunter looked at his drawn card, then thoroughly scanned his hand. The options available to him now made him pretty confident. Still, everything could change in a moment.
"I'll set a card face-down… So, Ryu, tell me how it feels to know you can't do anything against my Wall?"
"Heh heh. That's where you're wrong! It's my draw, and I think it's time you met my powerhouse monster… FIVE-HEADED DRAGON!"
Hunter sighed, and shook his head as if in wonder.
"Really now, must you shout EVERYTHING you do…?"
Ryu glared at Hunter for a second, then placed his hand on his field, calling out one of his best monsters!
"Annnnnnd now… This is wh-"
"Where I take over! I'll activate Enemy Controller and tribute my wall to grab your Dragon, then I'll chain my Mystic Wok and tribute it to gain 5000 life points through the effect of my Wok! How's that for a counterattack!"
Ryu gasped as his monster was boiled and baked inside the Wok's 3D projection, then sent to the Graveyard. His opponent was good… very good. Ryu had made a severe error in his judgment, and now it was biting him in the ass.
Hoo boy, if only Estrel was around now… I'd be getting the lecture of a lifetime… Crap, crap, crap. I'm gonna have to find a way around his defenses if I ever want to win this…
"Is that it…?"
Hunter shrugged, and chuckled. He was obviously enjoying himself greatly, and he knew he had the upper hand. Now, the only question was… what to do with it…
"My turn, Ryu?"
"Yeah…"
"Alright, my move. I'll draw one…"
Once again Hunter looked at his drawn card. He could wait his opponent out. After all, at this point there was almost nothing Hunter knew of that could stop him. He motioned to Ryu, signaling the end of his turn. Ryu growled, then drew… and smiled.
"Alright, you seem to have thwarted ONE Five-Headed… but how about a second one! I'll play Dragon's Mirror and remove five from my graveyard to summon YET ANOTHER! Five-Headed Dragon, descend!"
The monstrous entity known to some as the God of the Dragons appeared, roaring and raring to attack. Ryu pressed a button on his Duel Disk, activating one of his face-down cards.
"I'll activate Dragon's Rage… Something I put in just for you! Next, my Dragon will smite whatever monster you have on the field!"
Hunter grinned, and placed his hand on his face-down monster.
"My monster is another Giant Rat, summoning my SECOND Wall out to the field, which I'll then tribute by activating another Mystic Wok. I'll gain 3000 back, putting me back at 8550. My move?"
Ryu nodded. He was making his moves as quickly and precisely as possible, but Hunter seemed to be countering every single one. If the duel went on like this, it would be a long time before the end of it. Ryu had more important things to do than stick around and get decked-out. Sighing, the Dragon master closed his eyes and focused his energy… as claw-shaped "scars" appeared on his face.
It's time I got SERIOUS!

TURN 11: THE AFTERMATH
As Hunter drew his card, Ryu held up his hand in an attempt to grab the young duelist's attention.
"Say, kid, let me tell you something interesting before you make your move..."
Hunter sighed. He wanted to finish this duel as soon as possible, but it seemed the author of his life wasn't going to be that kind. Still, it might not be bad to listen to what his opponent had to say. One never knew, the fate of the world might be riding on the lecture!
Hahah, yeah right.
"Alright, let's hear what you have to say..."
Ryu sighed. The kid wasn't even taking him seriously. Well, that would be remedied soon enough. The coated duelist considered postponing the duel for a bit, but realized that would piss off Hunter. Plus, Ryu never liked leaving things unfinished.
"Alright, so we begin this tale with ancient Egypt... You remember those old wives tales about games like this? How playing these games can steal your soul and rot your brain? Turns out they were true... well, not the rotting the brain part. However, all that mumbo-jumbo about magic and whatnot that is involved with game happens to be deadly serious. After all, look at the world we live in today..."
Hunter narrowed his eyes and furrowed his eyebrows.
What is this guy talking about...? Look at the world we live in...?
"What the hell is that supposed to mean? The world we live in...? What're you blathering about?"
Ryu smirked, and shrugged as if he was disappointed.
"So, you don't know, and now you're interested eh? Well, you'll find out soon enough. After all, you're one of those chosen by the Stars... A child of the Stars."
Hunter looked at Ryu skeptically. Star Child? He had no idea how much of this Ryu was saying seriously, or if the other duelist was just messing with him. Still, something in Ryu's tone of voice made Hunter believe that the other man was serious. Still, it was pretty unbelievable.
"Magic, and destined children, eh? Just what makes you think I'd believe something like that?"
Ryu smiled, and shrugged once more.
"Hold on just a little while longer, and I'll show you!"
Hunter growled, and picked up his card. His opponent had a 5000 piercer staring him down, and he had no monsters on the field. Still, it could be worse. He could've already LOST. Plus, if Ryu noticed that his Future Fusion was still on the field he might do what Hunter wanted him to do... Hunter still had a few cards in his hand, and plenty of options.
"I'll play one monster face-down, then set two cards. I'm outta cards now, so it appears to be your turn..."
Ryu drew his card dramatically, then began his counterattack.
"First, I'll play Giant Trunade, sending all our Spells and Traps back to our hands. Then I'll play Burial from a Different Dimension to bring back my dragons... Next, I'll play Future Fusion again, dumping five more including another Wyvern, and a Darkness Metal Dragon. Just to make sure you don't have something waiting for me I have my next card to play... Light and Darkness Dragon! After summoning him I'll attack your monster, most likely destroying it."
Hunter laughed.
"Go ahead, and try. I might actually enjoy that."
Ryu glared, and then pointed at his monster.
"Alright, attack his monster!"
The black and white dragon attacked, revealing Marshmallon whose effect as negated as the dragon obliterated it. Ryu scoffed. After all his bluffing, Hunter couldn't do a thing right now.
"My turn?"
"Alright, mister Ryu... let's hear some more of your story. We both have some time on our hands, after all."
Ryu nodded, then started his story again.
"Alright, as I was saying... You, and the other Children of the Stars have a fate allotted to you after the tragedy that befell our world years ago. You... don't know why we live in these domes do you? Well, I'll tell you. Years ago, scientists were working on developing a new energy source... a source that derived all its power from what we humans call our "lifeforce". This energy, unlike anything heard of before, allowed us to make radical advancements in medicine, and other technology. However, all good things come with a price. That price was the lives of many people. See, this evil organization bent on using this energy found a way to channel this massive power into weapons... by using Duel Disks... Eventually, myself and a few others found a way to put a stop to them. However, our victory wasn't all flowers and sunshine. We ended up having a battle that corrupted the environment of the outside world. Essentially, after we sealed the energy away from the world... The world was left barren. Now, we have to survive off the energy produced by these domed cities... which get their power from us Duelists. So, as you can see, our victory wasn't really a victory... at least, not yet."
Hunter quirked his eyebrow.
"Not yet...?"
Ryu smirked, then pointed at his opponent.
"You'll learn what I mean soon enough. Until, then, kept that Sign safe..."
Hunter suddenly felt a searing pain under his right eye and cried out in pain, then collapsed. Ryu nodded to himself as that happened, then started to walk off.
"Everything's going smoothly so far... Now, where are the other children...? Before the Devils make their move, I have to gather them together and make sure they have the appropriate fighting strength. Still...
"Will we actually be able to fight them off this time?"
Eventually, all those with Signs would have to accept their destinies. However, it'd be best if the chosen Children were able to gain a little bit more power before that time came.
"With this kind of life... only time will tell if they have what it takes to survive the coming battles."
Ryu's Duel Disk beeped, reminding him that he was still on the job. Estrel would handle the next target, but Ryu needed to make sure the first boy he had visited hadn't landed himself in hotter water since the last time hat had crossed paths.
MEANWHILE...
Hunter had come to, and was now once again wandering the city, still looking for someone to snag some free food from. At the same time, the young man known as Anton was walking down the same street, looking for a way to retrieve his D-Wheel. What would happen when the two crossed paths? Soon enough, the world would know...
In another part of town, the red-suited man Anton had beaten kneeled down before his master in a barely lit room, hidden from the rest of the world.
"Master, I have failed to defeat the Child. However, my Devil Eye has seen the truth of his strength and the capacity of his powers..."
A feminine voice resounded throughout the room in response.
"Excellent... You have served us well... Now, for your reward."
"No, no. It was nothing..."
"You're absolutely right. It WAS nothing, and that is what you are most deserving off... a trip to oblivion!"
The man's eyes widened for a second, and then his vision went black as he felt something pierce through his stomach. A second later the man collapsed in a pool of blood as his master walked off, and sealed him inside the room leaving him to die. The figure the voice belonged to paused for a second, and turned her gaze on the dying man.
"I'll be back for your Eye in due time... maybe it will be more useful than you were..."

TURN 12: HERALDED DEVILS (PART 1)
As Ryu headed toward another Child, Estrel watched over Anton and Hunter as they began their duel... Knowing that their meeting would begin the true battle against the Heralded Devils. Still, gathering the rest of the Children was necessary. Hunter and Anton alone wouldn't be enough to combat the forces of the Devils.
"Hopefully, the next Child will be a little more receptive to our knowledge. As for Ryu, his next target is..."
Estrel's eyes narrowed as she looked at Ryu's list of targets.
"Hrm. Interesting..."
Estrel continued walking, wondering where she could locate her target. If she didn't find him soon, he might be targeted by the Devils.
Any child caught by the Devils before we can make contact with them.. No, I can't think that way. I just have to find my target before the Devils do.
Suddenly, Estrel realized that she had come upon the location of the last Duel Monsters tournament. Estrel smirked, feeling that her target was close.
What better place to find a Duelist than in a dueling arena?
"Hey, you! What're you doing here?"
Estrel turned, not recognizing the voice. Was she already being targeted...? As she turned, she prepared herself for a fight... and then she saw him. Her target was standing right in front of her. A young man, dressed in a brown blazer, white t-shirt and brown pants was staring intently at her.
"Perfect."
The young man cocked an eyebrow at Estrel's comment.
"Excuse me?"
Estrel smiled and shrugged.
"Nothing... I was just looking for you."
"Me... Why would you be looking for me?"
Estrel frowned a little, but most of her smile remained.
"You've heard of the duel gang called the Heralded Devils?"
The young man nodded, giving his wordless response to the beautiful woman.
"Well they are targeting strong duelists... for reasons you might not believe..."
"No, at this point I think I've seen enough.."
Estrel cocked her eyebrow, wondering what the young man was talking about.
"... they came after me, trying to scout me for their little gang. Apparently, they have these powers... powers that aren't of this world..."
Estrel gasped, finally realizing what had happened.
"You... you fought them already?"
"Yeah... the Devil almost beat me, too. However, it seemed he was killed by his own power... a great darkness seemed to swallow him every turn, and eventually he just disappeared from the battlefield. I assume he died, but I can't confirm he did. Then, I waited around here... figuring someone like you would show up. So, since you know about them... you must be from a rival gang, right?"
Estrel sighed.
So, he's already survived a Devil's Game... This... this is amazing. Such power from a Child, and he doesn't seem to even know of the Star Sign.
"Wow... so, what's your name, kid?"
"Aqua. My name's Aqua."
"I see. No last name?"
Aqua shrugged, as if it didn't matter. Which, in reality, it really didn't.
"Alright, mister Aqua with no last name... How about we take a little walk? I should warn you though, your life won't be the same after I've told you the reason for me coming to see you..."
Aqua nodded slowly, signaling that he wanted to know. He wouldn't back down from a group that had tried to kill him. If he died he wouldn't be able to fulfill his dream, and that was no acceptable to him.
IN ANOTHER PART OF TOWN...
"Your name's Hunter, right?"
Anton looked hard at his opponent, sizing the other young man up. Both duelists were down to a paltry amount of lifepoints, but neither was showing any desire to give up. Hunter looked back, smirking, completely confident that his opponent was finally going to make his move.
"Yeah, the name's Hunter. What of it?"
"Nothing. I just wanted to know the name of my worthy adversary, that's all."
Hunter shrugged, nonchalantly.
"Yeah, okay. You going to make your move, or not?"
Anton nodded. He put his hand on the top card of his deck and began to draw his card... and a sudden pain shot through both duelists, causing them to fall to their knees! Anton's vision went blurry, as his eyes fluctuated between their normal redish-brown color and the white eyes granted to him by his otherworldly powers. Hunter's hand burned, as the sign that had been inscribed on it began to glow and bleed...
"Aaaaaaaaaagh!"
What the...? What's with this pain...?
Both duelists looked at each other... and saw their respective souls clearly, reflected in each other's eyes. Hunter took notice of Anton's whitened eyes, and Anton clearly saw the glow and the blood coming from Hunter's hand.
Is that...?
Hunter and Anton now knew each other's secret and slowly pulled themselves to their feet. As they did so, two Devils came out of the shadows and activated their Hell Glyphs, surrounding the area in dark energy. Anton and Hunter immediately felt the change in the atmosphere and quickly scanned the area for their enemies, finding them quickly enough.
Anton turned to Hunter and smirked.
"Looks like they're determined to interrupt our duel..."
Hunter nodded, and flashed a small, smug smile.
"Yeah, sure looks that way."
AT THE SAME TIME, ESTREL HAD JUST FINISHED HER TALK WITH AQUA...
"So, there you have it. The reason the world is in such a state, and the story of the ones still trying to destroy it."
Aqua looked astonished, not knowing whether to believe the woman or not. Still, something about her words rang true with his soul, in the deepest sense of the word.
"So, you're telling me that these guys, the Heralded Devils... are actually looking for a way to harness Duelists' life energy to reignite the generators that caused the catastrophe that destroyed the world and forced the survivors to live within these domes...?"
"Yes, that's exactly what I'm telling you. You fought them, didn't you? Is it really that hard to believe?"
Aqua thought about it for a moment, taking the time to scan Estrel's kind face very thoroughly. It seemed that the woman was 100% confident in what she had said, further convincing him that she was telling the truth. Still, why would anyone want to do such a thing...?
"You look like you don't understand why anyone would want to destroy the world..."
Aqua nodded slowly.
"Yeah, that's right."
Estrel smiled softly.
"At first, I didn't understand it either... However, my husband and I fought together a while ago and discovered the answer. Deep beneath the domed cities, there lies a great temple. This temple serves as the summoning ground for the Gods, both good and evil. The Devils intend to resurrect the temple and use it to bring back the most powerful, evil Gods to destroy the world and then have it remade in their image. Doing so, however, would require a vast amount of energy and life-force... which they want to gather by stealing from the people of the domed cities. The best life-force energy, though, can only be gathered by those who fight daily... namely, Duelists..."
Aqua found himself hanging on every word. He was enthralled by this tale, and eventually came to want to be a part of it. Estrel noticed this and paused, smiling kindly at the young man.
"It seems you are ready for the task I'm going to give you... You see, while Duelists provide the most energy to the Devils, they also have the greatest potential to stop them. You, and a few other chosen Children of the Stars, have powers inside you that will help in the battle against these Devils. Soon enough, your power will present itself and aid in you in your fight. I'd like you to gather the other Children of the Stars against the Devils, and when you do we will meet again and I will tell you more..."
With that, a bolt of lightning struck Estrel and the girl vanished in a blaze of light. Aqua was left, astonished and somewhat scared. Still, he knew that he'd have a chance to perform something worthwhile if he listened to Estrel's request. Also, he was interested in meeting the other Children and though he didn't particularly liking fighting, he had a very good reason to do so this time.
How often do you get to save the world, after all? Doing so might help me fulfill my own goals, and if these so-called Heralded Devils want to destroy the things our fathers and mothers worked so hard to build and maintain... well, they'll have to deal with me first!
BACK ON THE BATTLEFIELD...
Anton and Hunter looked at their enemies, and at their decks... Neither seemed to be very forgiving at the moment... so they'd have to work together to get out of their current predicament.
"What about it, Hunter? Want to team up to take them down?"
Hunter smiled and drew his next card.
"You took the words right out of my mouth! Now, all I have to say is... MY MOVE!"
Dark clouds seemed to fill the sky as the four combatants readied themselves for the battle to come... Thunder and lightning danced through the sky and rain began to fall, drenching the duelists in its purifying dampness. As the pouring wet and the cold wind permeated the stage of battle, the Devils took up their positions against their targets. The two Children of the Stars were in for a fight, that much was certain... but what was waiting for them at the end of this battle... was something only time would tell.

TURN 13: HERALDED DEVILS (PART 2)
"Alright, let's get it on!"
Hunter looked at his card, eying his deck carefully. Unfortunately, he hadn't planned to be interrupted and his deck, as well as Anton's, was only left with a small amount of cards. Sighing, Hunter played a face-down card and picked out the monster he wanted to summon.
"I'll set a monster face-down an- Aagh!"
Hunter felt a pain shoot through his body and his Sign appeared to glow brighter as more blood leaked out...
What... is this pain...?
One of the Devils noticed the blood, and smirked.
"That pain...! You seem to be a Child as well... The pain is the effect of my Glyph. Every time you play a monster that monster's spirit will draw energy from your body, though it doesn't affect your life points!"
D-damn... It hurts...
Hunter shook a little, then steadied himself slowly. The effect of the first Glyph was the worst possible match for his deck, which depended heavily on the monsters he could summon.
Judging from the fact that these guys attacked us in a pair, the other Glyph's effect must be...
The other Devil spoke up, taking the opportunity to brag to the two worn out Children.
"... and the effect of my Glyph adds that energy to my lifepoints, and reveals your monster to all!"
"No... Damn!"
Morphing Jar was flipped up, and Hunter drew five cards, as did his opponents. The young man silently swore, knowing he was only helping them. The more monsters he summoned, the greater their advantage would be. Anton's deck was almost completely depleted, due to his earlier conflict with Hunter.
So, they used us to weaken each other, and then struck when we were at our most vulnerable. Clever. Obviously, Ryu wasn't lying when he said the duels from now on would be dangerous...
"I'll play two face-down cards and end my turn. Anton, take over!"
The other youth nodded, and drew his card. As his jacket blew in the wind, Anton felt the presence of something... more... Anton quickly shook off the feeling, and scanned his hand. Unfortunately, Hunter's Morphing Jar hadn't affected him, leaving him with only 3 cards in his hand. As far as Anton could tell, more than half his deck was gone, maybe even more.
What can I do with only 10 or 15 cards in my deck...? Every time I play a monster, their Glyphs will siphon energy from me and transfer it to them... WAIT! Their Glyphs! Of course... One is designed to buff up the other. That must mean that the first one doesn't have to worry about buffing. So, if I can get rid of the second guy Hunter and I might actually stand a chance!
"Here goes nothing! I'll activate my Allure of Darkness spell card, drawing two and then removing one of my monsters..."
Anton picked up two cards from the top of his deck, then removed one monster. He glanced at the two cards and smiled.
Great draw! Even if my monster's suck my energy, as long as I can overwhelm the second guy, Hunter can finish off the first. His discard deck might just be the thing that saves us in this situation.
"Now, to get things rolling. First, I'll play Sealing the Contract from my hand, which allows me to pay life points in exchange for a Spellcaster monster from my Graveyard. I'll pay 1000 life points, bringing me down to 2000 and summon a monster that would require a tribute! Come forth, The Tricky!"
Anton's monster was summoned to the field as Anton laid another card face-down and directed his monster to attack the owner of the life-recovering Glyph. Suddenly, Anton fell to his knees, the energy from The Tricky being sucked out of his body by the first Glyph. Anton gritted his teeth, and pulled himself to his feet, once again mustering the strength to declare The Tricky's attack.
"The Tricky's attack, Trick Gale! Blow his life points away!"
"Hahahah. Thank you!"
The Devil's life points were reduced by half, but the cloaked man pulled a card from his hand and summoned it to the field.
"Crush him, Gorz!"
Gorz the Emissary of Darkness, along with Gorz's ally token, was summoned to the field. The situation was going from bad to worse, as the Childrens' opponents now had two powerful monsters on their side of the field.
"My move, kid! I'll show you the power of a Devil! DRAW! I'll remove one card from my hand and Special Summon my Darkness Avatar! Then, a little fusion is in order! Dark Merger, fuse together my Avatar with my ally's token! Come forth, Chaos Avatar!"
A giant black and white sphere appeared on the Devil's field, its attack points rising from zero to 3000 in an instant.
"Destroy his Tricky, as well as his hope!"
"Not so fast, Devil-boy!"
Hunter activated one of his face-down cards, hoping to save Anton for a little while longer.
"Go, Magic Cylinder! Redirect his attack!"
The trap card was played successfully, and the attack was bounced back at the Devil, bringing his life-points down to 1000 in an instant.
"Good move, Child, but not enough to save your friend here... I end, and it's my partner's turn."
The second man took over, drawing his card and then pointing at Anton's Tricky.
"Destroy that pitiful monster, Gorz!"
The Devil's servant complied, and blasted Anton's monster into oblivion with the greatest of ease.
"Next, I will activate my Steal Assault Move quick-play spell from my hand, allowing me to use my ally's monster to attack you! Go, Chaos Rending!"
Anton closed his eyes... and activated his trump card.
"Not so fast! In response to your attack, I'll activate my Spirit Steal trap card! This negates your attack and allows me to summon a Spellcaster from my Graveyard with less attack than your monster! I'll summon back my Tricky in defense position."
"Hmph. So you're safe... for now. I end my turn."
Hunter drew his next card, and sighed. He was all out of options. Anton was going to die next turn and he couldn't do anything about it. All he could do was prepare his own counterattack for the moment after Anton was sacrificed. He looked at Anton and shook his head in woe, pitying the poor Duelist who had fought so hard to survive.
"I end my turn by playing a monster in defense position."
Hunter's monster was once again revealed, sucking the energy from his body as Spirit Reaper was shown to his opponents. Anton smiled glumly, and began to draw his card. Without warning, the sound of heart beat pulsed through Anton's body.
W-what? What... was that...?
Anton found himself in a blank white plane, and was left wondering what was happening.
"It is time for you to awaken, young Child..."
"What the hell..? What's happening to me..."
"It is time for you to awaken, and understand your own strength... Are you ready for this task...?"
Anton suddenly found himself back on the battlefield... Then, something amazing happened. Anton's eyes went white, as a chilling aura befell the battlefield. This was the dawn of power, and the end of the reigning darkness!
"I draw. Then, I will summon my Sacred Twilight Spirit in attack mode, allowing me to summon a level 5 or lower Spellcaster from my hand... I'll chose my Level Mage. When he's Special Summoned by a monster's effect his level increases by 1. His level thus becomes 3..."
Anton grinned evilly, and gazed at his opponents. His opponents felt fear, a sensation that wasn't often felt by their organization. Why hadn't their Glyphs' effects worked on Anton when he summoned his two newest monsters?
"Synchro Summon... Like thunder from the Heavens, the flash descends wiping clean the field of blood! Fight your fate and bring me victory! Sacred Synchro, SACRED FLASH MAGICIAN!"
A mage, clothed in white and black armor appeared from a door of light, wielding his glaive with grace. His crimson eyes bore into the souls of Anton's enemies and caused them to shudder. His robes flowed in the wind, and his power seemed to permeate the Duelists' souls.
"Destruction Flash."
In an instant, the Devil's battlefield was wiped out and Anton began to regain life points.
"Now, for my mage's best effect. I'll pay 1000 life points to allow my mage to attack twice in one battle phase. First, I'll wipe out the guy with the life-stealing Glyph...!"
The mage aimed his glaive, and released a burst of energy that knocked the first Devil through the barrier of his Glyph and caused him to crash into a pole.
"Next... I'll attack you!"
The mage once again aimed his glaive, and shot a beam of light at the second Devil, reducing his life points to a mere 900.
"Finally, I'll play this.. Grave-robbing Spell. By paying life points, I can activate a Trap card from my Graveyard. I'll activate my Magical Explosion trap card, wiping out the rest of your life points. That's... game!"
Anton's trap card created an explosion that blasted through the Devil, and caused him to fall to the ground in defeat.
Hunter looked at Anton, astounded... What had happened to his partner that allowed him to wield such power...?
