"Can't say I have. Care to explain?"

"Think of a cockroach as tall as a man, and give it appendages sharp enough to punch through plate mail," Darrick explained. "That's a Reaper... and I think your caves are now home to one."

"Ugh. Bugs." Jay checked the bottoms of his shoes. "Nope, too small to step on." Now wasn't exactly the time for dull humor, but... "If worse comes to worse we can just drown it right? Or do you have some other trinket in that giant coat of yours?" The boy then took a bit of a closer look at the gunk on the ground. Maybe they could burn it, too.

"I don't know if drowning it would work," Darrick replied, looking about the cavern with his torch raised up high. "Those things have tough shells, too. That trick you did to get our torches... that might help, if you can cut off its limbs."

"Well there went Plan A. But yeah alright. Afterall, how fast could a giant bug be eh? So let's get goin', huh?" The teen gave the stranger a slight push to get him started. The fast they got this done the better. The villagers needed to start guarding these caves a bit more, it seemed.

"Sure, just rush the old man blindly into danger, huh?" remarked Darrick at the shove. Regardless, they pressed onward, deeper into the caverns. "Just make sure that when we find it, you stay the hell away from it. If it grabs you, you'll be as good as dead."

"I'm pretty sure I could run away quicker than an old sack of bones." The comment was a lighthearted one. But still, it was solid advice. Giant roach that eats people = bad. And for a side note, the gunk didn't exactly compliment their shoes. The deeper they went, it seemed the reflections from water seemed to slowly fade out. Didn't exactly give off a comfortable feeling.

The smell was much stronger here, and they were more of the fluid on the ground, making a trail for them to follow.
"None of the dragons here have matured, have they?" Darrick questioned. "I can't see a full-grown dragon letting a Reaper invade its weyr so readily."

"Only a couple if I recall right." the local noted. "If so, they seem to be off hunting other beasts pretty often or something. Can't exactly say I've hung out with 'em, ya know?"
As they went, they'd sooner or later end up spotting a faint glow at the end of the long path. And it would be just as Jay feared. The Reaper had reached the room held most sacred by the islanders.

Darrick squinted with his one good eye. "What's that light up ahead?" he asked.

The teen picked up pace a little bit in order to cut the older man off. "Look, before we go any farther, I need you to swear to me that you won't tell anyone what you're about to see."

Darrick halted, arching an eyebrow at the teenager's now stressed demeanor. "What's this about?" he asked.

"Inside that room is something the islanders have been keeping secret for years. Way back before even I or maybe even you were born." Jay let out a deep breath. "If word got out, who knows what'd happen. And considering this Reaper thing is apparently burrowing its way inside... Let's just say it could be very bad if it's all the way in."

Slowly, Darrick nodded. "Alright, kid, I understand," he said. "Let's go kill us a Reaper then."

And foreward they went. At the end of long tunnel lied a lit room covered on brilliant desigins. The floor sank inward and was covered in water, all leading to an alter of some kind in the very back. Near it was where the secret lied. And thankfully, according to how the room was only about 1/4th covered in filth, the Reaper had not made its way there yet. "Keep your eyes open, Whip Guy."
